"It's been a while," General Grayson muttered, locking eyes with Boris who sat at the head of the table, "in that time the 'right-hand man' took the spot as center huh?"
Boris adjusted the papers in front of him as the other members of the council sitter around the table shifted in silence.
"It has, hasn't it?" Boris laid down the last piece and locked eyes with Grayson, "I don't know about that change you are talking about, but at least I change. Unlike someone who only knows how to decline in favor."
Grayson's jaw clenched, increasing the tension in the room.
"Um, so today-" A council member stuttered, trying her best to direct the meeting back into order.
"I see someone got their fangs sharpened," Grayson eyes glinted with spite as his lips curl into an ill-intended smile, "you should be careful. The sharper they are, the easier they are to break."
Boris turned his head to Grayson so slowly creaks could be heard from his neck, "I'm not sure all that arrogance is helping your vision that well because the fangs that have been sinking into your skin has been there all along, and," Boris locked eyes with the female council, "Feline was it?"
The council member nodded in reply, her eyes bright from finally being recognized. Being one of the three female council members and the youngest out of all, she couldn't really see the light in front of her Uncle's shadow.
"How funny for you to interrupt your favorite niece after getting her into this council, don't you think?" Boris grinned, his friendly facade so thin hostility peeked out and stabbed at Grayson, "let's not continue this pointless argument and go on with the meeting shall we?"
A few hesitant seconds passed as the other council members waited to see if the ticking bomb of Grayson might explode. They nodded in agreement when it didn't.
"Today, we will discuss the war and our dear prince, Dominic," Kalmin began.
Boris resisted the urge to turn to Kalmin. The war? Dominic? Boris thought, this wasn't our purpose for this meeting. He tapped Kalmin's hand in desperation, making eye contact with him and sending him multiple questions with the concern in his eye.
Kalmin continued without adding assisting Boris, "I will let our elder leader proceed with the details. I have an event to attend that was assigned by our prince, Dominic Aarvi."
Boris looked at him, "WHAT!?" written all over his face.
"I will take my leave now," Kalmin bowed before walking to the large doors and grabbing the handle. He turned back to Boris one more time, who pleaded with his eyes to stay and accompany him, and then pulled open the large doors and walked out of the room, giving Boris a little 'good luck' wink before slamming the doors shut.
The sound of the door shutting echoed through the room for a bit before slowly dying off leaving Boris in an awkward silence. He turned to the elder leader and gave a reassuring smile and prayed for his life and mental well being.
