Chapter 10 - Proper Weapons

Shi heated up the piece of metal that he had decided to name adamantite and broke off a piece big enough for what he wanted to do. He then started hammering out that piece until it formed a curved shape that if placed at the throat would stay in contact with the throat throughout the blade's length. He then uses the horn of the anvil to form a finger ring at the base of the tang. (Part of the blade that the handle is placed on)

He had to use his war cry in order to shape the metal even when it was white-hot. He left himself plenty of blade to work with as he started heating it to do the quench. He only heated up the edge as he wanted to keep the spine softer to absorb the shock from any blows he would deliver with the weapon.

He dunked the edge of the blade into the oil, and when he checked it he gave a satisfied grunt. The blade didn't have a single warp or crack in it and when he tested it with the file, it skated across the edge as if the blade was made of ice. Satisfied, Shi ground the blade down until it had a wickedly sharp edge. The blade also glowed golden when Shi injected it with mana and Shi could sense it become harder and sharper when he did this.

With the golden glow and the curved blade, the knife looked like a legendary dragon's talon. Shi set the half-finished knife down on the anvil and headed outside. He went to the woods near the village and sensed around with his mana. There! Shi found a similar draw on his mana that the adamantite had done.

He followed this and found a blood-red tree that was over 100 feet (30.48 meters) tall. Shi used his war cry and pounded at the tree until a large chunk that he could barely carry fell off. He then searched again with his mana, searching for an animal to kill and skin for the handle when suddenly all of the mana he was searching with was forcefully absorbed by something.

Shi followed the drain and found a giant bull more than 3 times his height at the shoulder. It had jet black fur and blood-red eyes, and it looked ready to kill. Shi cast war cry while summoning a small mountain under the bull's stomach. The mountain slammed into the bull's torso, throwing it a few feet into the air.

Shi breathed fire at the bull's face and stabbed at it's heart with his fighting knife. To Shi's surprise, the knife didn't penetrate all the way into the bull's heart but instead only grazed it. Shi summoned another small mountain in between him and the bull as he retreated, gathering wind magic into a tornado as he did so. His blow would be fatal if he could buy time, but the bull could kill him if he wasn't careful enough.

The small mountain exploded as the bull charged straight through it, Shi made the tornado pick up the surrounding dirt and charged it at the bull's eyes. The bull was forced to close it's as because of this and Shi took the opportunity to dive to the side as the bull was blinded, dodging it's attack. Shi then started making a large earth bear as his tornado continued to harry the demon bull.

The bull roared, the force and rage within that roar tearing the tornado apart and turned towards Shi. It immediately received a claw to the face, courtesy of Shi's earth bear. The bear didn't let up, following the slash with a crushing bite to the bull's throat, ripping it out violently. The bull went on a crazed rampage, completely destroying the bear, crushing it into dust.

As it turned towards Shi once more, it faltered on its feet and fell heavily onto the ground, shaking it. "D*amn you were one tough b*stard." Shi said to the bull's corpse. He then proceeded to skin and butcher the bull, packing everything into a bag he had brought with him.

He then returned to the forge, beginning the tanning process for the 2 pieces of the bull's hide that he had specially prepared after returning to the forge. He then went inside and broke the large chunk of wood into 3 smaller chunks. Shi realized that the wood was somehow hard and soft at the same time, and glowed a blood red when injected with mana, looking terrifying.

Shi cut the channel for the tang and the finger ring into the piece of wood and affixed it to the tang with some adamantite pegs he had made. He slowly sanded down the handle until it perfectly fit every contour of his hand. He then went and got the black leather that had finished tanning and wrapped the handle with it. If he injected his mana into the weapon, the blade glowed a heavenly gold while the handle glowed a hellish black and red.

Holding the karambit, Shi felt complete in a way he had never felt before. Shi could use any knife and be extremely effective with it, but he was a martial arts grandmaster with the karambit. Shi knew the origins of every item in the knife, and knew the knife itself better than any other. He improved the blade and it was like a god had crafted the blade, it was leagues above any weapon that Shi had ever seen.

It made him want to throw his old fighting knife in the trash. Shi made a sheath from some of the remaining leather and strapped it to his hip, sheathing the karambit. He then started whittling one of the chunks of wood down into the shape of a recurve bow. After it was shaped the way Shi wanted it, he slid on two endcaps made of adamantite onto each end of the bow.

Shi then wrapped the rest of the bull's leather around the handle of the bow. After that, he formed an earth bear and had it smash some of the scraps that Shi had left while whittling into pulp that Shi mixed with some of the bull's blood and used magic to bind it and some of the bull's sinew together to form a bowstring.

He strung the bow and injected some mana into it, making it glow the color of blood, looking like a bow straight out of hell. Shi spent the rest of the day making arrows out of the rest of the adamantite. After he was out of materials, Shi looked at his new arsenal contentedly.

He then went to his parent's house, "I need you guys to move somewhere. I have made a stone house out in the woods where it will be safe for a while. I am going to start conquering this land and I can't do that if I'm constantly worrying about your safety. Here, take this." Shi said handing his father his old fighting knife, "Hopefully this will be unnecessary, but take it just to be safe." Shi's parents hugged him and said their temporary goodbyes as they headed out to their new home. Shi was ready to begin his conquest.
