Chapter 6 - The 4 Mages

"Haha... I could've made my way to Godhood once again, but I guess this is it."

I stepped into the room to face the final foe; the goblin king. Before looking into the room, I noticed that my armour had broke during the fight with the goblin champion. Below the armour, I had worn a black shirt, which was visible from several places.

As I focused on the situation at hand, I saw a horde of 40 goblins in the grand room. A broke down throne was present in the centre of the room, covered by 40 goblins. The king was sitting on the throne, further guarded by 4 goblin sages. A goblin sage was just about the size of a normal goblin, however, it had the power to use magic.

The only way to counter a goblin mage was with magic. However, if I used magic at this time, I would lose the chance to achieve Godhood. Unless it was completely necessary, I wasn't planning of using my MP. If I accidentally used too much, or too less, I could lose my life in the process. And for a man who had just recently began practising magic, I wanted to avoid the risk. Every move I would make would decide my chances of survival. Living up to this level was already surprising, and now, this was the final test of my strength.

While holding my chest with my right hand, I used the wall of the room as back support. I waited for the goblins to approach me. The king roared, presumably, ordering his minions to attack. 10 of them tried to attack with their weapons. One of them had a long spear, meanwhile, the others had short-ranged weapons.

The spear-equipped goblin approached me from my left, and the others approached me from my right to not get in the way of the spear. I moved my hand away and stood straight on my feet. As soon as the spear moved into the radius of my arm, I grabbed it, and dealt with the brunt of the attack. The thrust of the spear barely managed to do anything. With the spear in my hand, the other goblins with short ranged weapons finally made their way to point their weapons towards me. I tugged on the spear to make the goblin leave the spear and to gain the full control of the spear. While the advancing goblins were a few centimetres away from inflicting damage, I moved the spear horizontally in front of me. I pushed all of the goblins with the help of the spear, horizontally. The goblins fell, aligning most of their heads together from a side view. Similar to a barbecue stick, I moved to the side of the ten goblins, and pierced through each and every one of them with ease. While the 10 goblins stuck on the spear were squirming, I held the spear horizontally in the air and stared into the eyes of the goblin king.

The goblin king roared once more, in his screechy yet aggressive voice. This time, 20 goblins ran towards me, without the fear of what they were to face. The 20 goblins surrounded me in the form of a semi-circle, and aggressively moved forward to stab me. The spear covered with the meat of goblins was still in my hand, which I decided to shield myself with. I held the spear up in front of me and thrusted the spear horizontally just as before. The goblins that were right in front me were pushed back, however, a few of the goblins on the sides managed to inflict damage. Two of them stabbed my gut with daggers, meanwhile, another one managed to pierce my right leg with a pointed rod.

I looked towards my right, and added 2 more goblins to the collection of corpses. 12 dead goblins hung on the spear, some, half-dead. To create distance between the goblins on my left, I swung the spear like a bat, and struck each of them hard. Most of the goblins fell unconscious due to the force, however, one of them managed to remain conscious as it was hit. I moved my left leg, and crushed its skull as it was lying on the ground.

While looking at the goblin king, I pulled out the rod in my leg, and threw it towards the goblin king. Blood oozed out of the wound yet still, I kept my composure. Just as the rod was about to pierce through the goblin king's head, one of the 4 goblin mages jumped in front of the rod to face the impact. The goblin mage died on the spot.

Aggravated, the goblin king roared once more. This time however, he stood up. I could see it in his eyes. He was pissed. The ten goblins that were on their guard, moved back. The goblin mages walked forward, and began to cast a spell.

I was smeared in blood from every corner. Breathing became difficult, my leg could barely move, and I could taste the blood in my mouth. I pulled the two daggers out of my chest and threw them on the floor. I no longer had the strength to continue. I was barely managing to stand at this point. The goblin mages' spell was more of an advantage than loss. I was able to recover a bit of my health.

In such a situation, I thought that the only way to survive the brunt of further opponents was to obtain Godhood. Eager to know whether achieving Godhood was possible, I spoke, "Status...open."

I smiled as I looked at the screen. I had fought through an impossible situation, and now, I was relying on the impossible. I could finish all of the goblins that stood before me with a single spell, however, if I failed to cast the spell properly, my death would be imminent. I continued to rely on the dream of achieving Godhood.

I gazed at the goblin king and advanced forward. I was limping forward to fight against the goblin mages, however, the goblin king stepped up. I assume the reason why he did so was because of the spell the goblin mages were casting.

To begin with, it was rare for a goblin mage to use its MP for anything other than buffs or healing spells. Nonetheless, I accepted the goblin king's challenge.
