"This is Rachel, from the Mother bird, what's up?"
"The fuck is a Mother bird?" Jeremy replied, pressing his headset deeper into his ear with a smug smile before setting his eyes on a white tall building amidst the sea of concrete establishments around it.
"Oh no…" the voice behind the headset, as though its tone wavered with disgust, began to soften. It was then followed by the sound of footsteps, that was soon accompanied by two people talking right before it was cut off and was picked up about a moment later.
"Yo, this is MC speaking. You got something for me, Jeremy?"
He fell silent, letting the coldness of the wind that he could not entirely feel creep into his body as he ran his palm through his face in disappointment. "Hi, I'd like to order a few sacks of cornmeal and chicken-feeds with the brand of WHAT-THE-FUCK-DID-I-JUST-HEAR?" He broke into a laugh and after cutting in even before a second could pass, he added, "I need the Owl."
"I'm sorry, we don't sell that kind of stuff here," the voice behind the phone was replaced by the sound of something ruffling before it came back, shouting, "ah wait, who the fuck cares, drop the call, Jeremy, I have Ankou on the other line!"
"Yeah, except when I'm working on Nina, which was, by the way, the work you dumped on me, you little shit!" Jeremy roared back, stealing a glance on Mary's face before looking back towards the building in the distance. "Look, just let me use the Owl, just check out what's up around section 15 on sector 372, please."
"Right with the magic word, wow… and here I am thinking that you can't be nice," MC replied behind the phone with a smug tone. "or is it because you're already behind schedule?"
Jeremy let out a sharp breath through his nose. "I feel offended, especially when it's me you're talking about. A few are already in position, some are just about to go dark and all I need is to find out how many they were before dropping down there to waltz on their front door… well… probably through the wall but you get the point. You know this would've been over real quick if Rachel didn't pass the call to you."
"Yeah, good point, Jeremy," she replied with her tone getting a little bit conceited. "Who knows, maybe I'll get another sexual harassment complaint in one way or another and also, remember the time when I told you I was talking with Ankou?"
Jeremy clicked his tongue. "Again, you know that this would've been over if you've just shut up and used the Owl."
The other line fell silent and soon enough, he, along with his three other men, two on standby with their weapons and one working on the computers at the rooftop, they saw a blue beacon of light shooting down from the sky, blowing off the nearby clouds until it faded and illuminating their target along with a few establishments around it. They then heard a loud ominous howl that sounded like an owl's before it faded out of their view.
"There, are you happy? Just check your notebook for the files of the ones we found, but the gist is that your target is cooping up not in that tall building but on the smaller one that was just a block away from it with six other people."
"Is Dick there?" Jeremy asked, stepping back towards himself that was manning the main computer.
"Oh, you mean the boyfriend?" The one on the other line replied after a moment.
"The one she stabbed before she killed herself, yes."
"Yeah, is he there?"
"Yep, and if there's nothing else you want to know except for my next day off then—"
"Ew, no."
"Fuck off then," she shouted before dropping the call.
Then, after a few seconds of letting out a few long breaths, the man of the hour turned around towards his men with a wide smile along with his eyes glistening with this luster that reeked of bloodlust and anticipation under the stage set upon by this pale moonlight. "Time to work, boys," he said, leaning to the setup he had on the table to switch his set of headphones. "This is Two. Three, Four and Five, what's your status? Over..."
"...This is Three speaking, I'm in position but still blind with the targets as planned, my guns are ready and waiting for your call. Just saw the files, and I'm calling dibs over that one long-haired chick, over..."
"This is Four. I'm the same with Three but I'm getting a slight visual on the targets. Confirming the sight of three women and a fat man sitting together in a small room and holy shit that long-haired chick in front of her is cute. They appeared to be talking with each other so there could be more. I think Five would have the best shot here, over…"
"...This is five…" Jeremy heard the sound of a rugged breath before the call turned to static. "Was able to find the building… currently repositioning myself at the moment, over..."
"Got it… I'll be heading down with Mary and remember, tread lightly as you can, that's for the others who could hear this conversation too."
"Affirmative, we'll proceed as planned." The same voice rang one by one through his headset and after hearing them talk with such confidence, he smiled and soon, he heard another call that made his twisted lips even further.
"...this is Five speaking and I have to say, ya'll are fucking sick. That girl is too fucking young even for me, and that's us we're talking about!"
Hearing that made Jeremy let out a hearty laugh that was then followed by everyone else in his headset, leaving Mary to look at him in disgust, still confused about what was happening.
"...I'm waiting for your call. Confirming that now, I have all the targets on sight, I could see four women and two men in that room, but I suggest that we should kill the jailbait first..."
"...I second that well… almost but I should take the shot with that kid, this should give you plenty of time to kill the other younger girl clinging onto her left arm. After killing the cutesy deadweight that everyone wants to protect, let's blow the head off of that new best friend character next. That should drag her out with a heavy sense of loss and aggression, that good, chief?"
"Good god, I love me," Jeremy said with an elated breath after unmuting his mic before going back to his headset, saying, "that sounds good. We should go with that."
"Good… everyone should stand by for the meantime, and you three, keep your eyes peeled and keep us posted if there are any other movements like if they kiss or something. Remember the plan and let's execute this perfectly. I'll officially start the operation once I'm down on the field."
There, with his headset still intact and with him along with Mary and the other two men who wore the same face and expression as his, he stood at the ledge of the rooftop while carrying a confident and twisted smile, but after sensing Mary's silence, he looked at her and asked, "Do you have any questions about the plan, perhaps?"
"No, sir, I'm just a little bit confused about the situation and all," she replied, gazing at the bottom of the building as she held her breath.
"Ah," he laughed and gave her shoulder a gentle tap that made her take a step away from him. Then, with a confident tone, with his words seemingly filled with wisdom, he continued, "That's easy because just like I've told you when you met them before, I am the same as them and they are the same as me."
