Chapter 12 - The Will of the Dead

Tang Peng checked his forearm once more. The arrow had grown more pronounced over the course of his journey. His whole body was covered with sweat, and his body was glowing red. The sweat dripped into his eyes, which made him blink again.

When he had gone past the boundary, he was greeted by the sight of several tall mountains. These mountains had numerous sculptures carved into the sides, of many different people, which was extremely eye catching. However, Tang Peng focused on his main goal, and always chose flat land to walk towards his destination.

He had already walked for 1 hour without stopping. Not only that, even though he had been carefully avoiding objects on the ground, some objects still scraped the soles of his feet, which caused huge discomfort to him. Some even tore gashes into his feet, which made it difficult for him to walk.

When Peng Xiu had carried him to the Nine Step Sect, his straw shoes had fallen off mid-flight. Hence, his feet had to endure stepping on the numerous sticks or stones on the ground.

After walking for a few more steps, Tang Peng finally have had enough. He dropped down on the ground, extremely exhausted. The area around him immediately turned into a puddle of sweat. His head became extremely dizzy once he stopped walking. His heart was beating so fast he could hear it in his ears.

"Water... and food." Tang Peng managed to stand up and look around him. He was in a grassland, where some animals were wandering around. He could have sworn that one of the animals was glaring at him as he started looking for some food.

Eventually, he spotted some shrubbery nearby, which had glistening red round berries on it. Even though they could be poisonous, his body's needs beckoned him to consume all of them. As he chewed on the berries, Tang Peng's face turned purple as he quickly vomited out a black, bitter substance.

"What the hell are in these berries? At least I don't feel so exhausted anymore." Tang Peng could feel that the berries had fulfilled his body's needs, but the taste was just too disgusting for him. He decided not to take the remaining berries with him. He settled down on the ground again to rest.

"Whew! To think that I have already walked so far!" Tang Peng's legs were quite swollen from his relentless walking, but after eating the berries, they had actually shrunken back to their normal size, albeit a little bigger.

Tang Peng could feel that his leg muscles seemed to have become more powerful. It was as if he could run for an unlimited amount of time! "Could this be related to the berries?" Tang Peng changed his mind about the berries, and grabbed more of them to act as a food source.

Tang Peng took in a deep breath, and he suddenly sprinted at a high speed. The improvement to his previously weak legs were significant, as he did not feel tired after running forcefully like this for a short while.

As he sprinted forward, he could feel a sudden pain coming from his arm, with the arrow suddenly rotating towards another direction. Tang Peng looked at the direction, and could only see a rainforest covered in shadows. The attraction towards that place was extremely high, so he headed in directly.

As he entered the rainforest, he could feel many hostile eyes targeting and following him. When he turned to look at what was watching him, there was nothing there. Tang Peng tensed up. What was most fearsome was an enemy you could not fight against.

Tang Peng took out one Ninety Nine Heavenly Kicks and Porcupine's Reflection from his robe. He concealed them in his hand, preparing to paste them on himself at any time.

He cautiously swept through his surroundings with his eyes again. There was the blood red flowers growing all over the forest floor, the towering trees that made up the forest... and the shadow of the gigantic monkey which was dive bombing him!

Tang Peng did not hesitate, immediately slapping the talismans on his bare skin. Suddenly, his skin emitted sharp Qi, while Tang Peng's legs were enhanced with great strength.

This enabled him to swiftly the monkey's dive bomb. However, the tremor from the slam made him slightly wobble, even though he was already strengthened by the talismans. A crater had also formed around the impact site. The power of this monkey was not to be messed with!

While the monkey was still lying on the ground, Tang Peng used his legs and kicked with extreme strength. The kicks were so fast, there were after images left behind by these kicks.

Then, the uniqueness of the Heavenly Kicks activated. The afterimages themselves materialised into reality, dealing more damage to the monkey.

However, the monkey's physical prowess was more than enough to withstand Tang Peng's rapid kicks. It could not be killed with just a couple of powerful kicks.

The monkey started to stand up, which made Tang Peng retreat instantaneously out of the crater. After it stood up, the yellow fur on its body started to change colour, becoming orange.

Not only that, spikes were coming out of its tail. It's size also started to increase to become larger. At this point, it was almost half the height of the super tall trees. The monkey then took a huge swipe at Tang Peng's hand, in which he was holding the berries he had obtained. It left deep scratch marks on his arm, which started to burn up.

"Just my luck to encounter such a crazy powerful beast!" Tang Peng could not help but mutter under his breath. At this point, he should try to escape from the monkey!

He had been injured by it, even though he was just a commoner. He did not have anything special to defend against attacks. He threw the rest of the berries in his mouth. The bitterness of the black substance made him distort his face, but he could feel himself becoming lighter.

Tang Peng activated another burst of speed through the power of the talisman. Even though it was meant to be utilised as an offensive talisman, it was adapted as a movement talisman to facilitate Tang Peng's escape.

Unfortunately, this did not work very well for Tang Peng. The speed of the tail created air currents, as it accurately hit onto Tang Peng's head. The Porcupine's Reflection Qi on Tang Peng finally activated, protecting the blast of Qi from reaching him.

At the same time, the talismans circulated the energy from the tail through its own Qi, before redirecting it at the monkey. The monkey let out a cry of pain as it was pierced by several bursts of Qi.

Tang Peng was excited. He did not know that this defensive talisman was so useful. It meant that he could fight back against this monkey which had tried to kill him.

He took out one of each talisman, and slapped them on him again, since the earlier talismans had ran out of steam. The desire to kill ballooned inside him as he rushed to the monkey's ankle, viciously assaulting it with his kicks.

Since Tang Peng was hitting the monkey's weak spot this time, the monkey was in even greater pain, causing it to release its ultimate move. A green flame ignited at the monkey's tail end, which was flung towards Tang Peng.

Tang Peng could see it coming, but he was confident that the Porcupine's Reflection Qi could deal with the fire effectively. He focused on kicking the ankle, which made the monkey reach the peak of its anger.

As the flame reached Tang Peng, some of it passed through the Porcupine's Reflection Qi, entering his body. Tang Peng's eyes widened as he felt the green flame attacked his soul directly, causing a mild pain.

Still, the green flame could only bow to Tang Peng's soul, as the darkness inside extinguished the flame, absorbing it as its own. The screams of people that could be heard in the green flame faded away, returning to the darkness of the soul.

The monkey was at first delighted that the human had shown a reaction to its flame, but when the human started kicking again, its face turned sour. Why did its special technique not work against this human?

It remembered its past origin, where it stayed in this area, and lived as a happy monkey. However, it had seen a human drop from the sky, and ever since, its body had been growing stronger.

It had also killed many humans which had swords and special powers which tried to kill it and absorbed their essences to boost itself. This human had actually stolen its berries, which made it angry, but this disgusting human had also managed to kill this grand monkey...

Therefore, it had actively tried to kill as many humans which entered here. To think that it would fall to a lowly human using its own green flame, just like this...

The monkey eventually stopped thinking, as it dropped to the ground. Tang Peng moved back with the remaining power of the Ninety Nine Heavenly Kicks talisman. He had become thoroughly exhausted from battling this vicious enemy.

He was lucky that the flame could be redirected to his kicks. Otherwise, he did not know how long it would have took him to kill that monkey. Not only that, the talismans played a huge role in saving his life.

Resources were truly something one could not do without with in this cultivation world. Tang Peng patted the remaining talismans in his robes, before he moved on to his final destination.

From the burning remains of the monkey, a devilish ghost leapt out, holding the domineering aura of the monkey. It passed through Tang Peng's body, entering his soul, intending to wreak havoc in this person's soul.

However, the moment it entered his soul, chains forged from the soul confined it to one location restricting its actions. The monkey's ghost tried to pull the chains out, but they did not budge at all. The only thing he could do was to curse Tang Peng.

Tang Peng did not notice anything abnormal happening to him, as he went to the mountain that would change the fates of Five Star Continent.
