Chapter 1 - Sally's giggle

Pure, white, and cold. Snow fell unceasingly from the heavens, gracing the dirty world with icy temperatures, freeing the time as people ran about, getting their food reserves ready. Letizia carried a wooden box filled with jars of wine back to their house. It was both a drink and a seasoning, usually used to warm their bodies during the cold days.

She entered the house and laid the box down. Her task was done, only anticipating the arrival of her mother, who had gone to the market. The eleven-year-old girl began making embroidery and clothes for herself next year. Along the way, she created purses and hair ties to sell in the upcoming summer.

Their house is slightly better than others, compared to personnel who are working for under their family. On the first level of their two-story home, is their store. A bakery store. Currently, Sally, their slave, handles the selling of the products. She is made a slave as a verdict by a judge to repay the death of Letizia's father. It wasn't Sally who murdered him. Instead, it was her brother Martin, a famous delinquent in their place. One night, he was drunk, and as he passes by their store, Martin noticed her father, preparing the ingredients for the busy day tomorrow. It wasn't completely dark at that time, so many neighbours were outside, witnessing the scene. Letizia's father was hitting the though with such force, slamming it on the counter as he mixes the dry mixture with the liquid mixture. Annoyed, martin entered the store, screaming. Her father stopped and, with a smile, asked Martin of his day and if he was drunk. Such a cheerful man, but Martin doesn't appreciate this. With a punch, the table broke, and the dough fell on the ground. This time, Letizia's father was annoyed as well. Both were heard arguing, and when Martin went out, his clothing was stained with blood, red liquid on his face and hand. He ran away with speed, and their fellow bakery neighbours got suspicious. They entered to find the father to be dead, a kitchen knife stuck on his throat, his eyes opened. It was a gruesome image.

Since there were many witnesses and the crime is definitely done, Martin is guilty of murder. But the man is nowhere to be found. Only his sister is in their house. With the judge's verdict, Sally is spoken to and forced to sign a slavery contract, serving for 10 years to repay her brother's sins. Martin and Sally are both from poor families. The truth that being under the slavery contract might be better for her cannot be denied. After she had moved in and left the small hut, she began working. Their treatment wasn't bad. They didn't abuse her nor held hatred. Well, her mother hadn't. Sally was with her mother as they restarted the shop. It was difficult since most of the hard work was done by her father in the past. They struggled together until two years later, and the business stabilized. Their shop began producing more bread with different flavours and forms. Meanwhile, Letizia held contempt towards Sally when she first found out why Sally was with them. She runs away from home, but after turning ten, her mind matured and moved on from the past.

Letizia went downstairs to help with accounting. Money is what she likes the most. Earning and expanding. It is what makes the world turn, the ultimate weapon in this godforsaken world. Two orbs with bright green pupils shimmered as the coins reflected from her eyes. How she wish they have enough and transfer to the central capital where they could earn more capita. Her mind is so pure, a naive woman's.

Hearing Sally's giggle, she turned around to catch her speaking with a man. Well-groomed with a sweet, perfect smile. Blonde and brown eyes. Almost every day, this man would visit, joking with Sally and conversing for quite an extended amount of time.

She eavesdropped on their conversation. Cheesy lines left the man's, and Sally laughed, teeth out as she covered it with her mouth. Flirting. Rolling her eyes, she proceeded to count the coins. (I'll be using Canadian Dollars for the currency.) Soon they stopped and the man left with two sticks of bread.

"Who was that?" She asked Sally instantly.

"George Mornington," she replied as her eyes stayed at the back of the man who soon turned around and waved another round.

"Tsk, love birds."

Soon, her mother returned with a basket of meat on her right, and vegetables and fruits on the left basket. She is medium-sized, 5'5 ft, with a curvy body. Brunette with dark brown eyes. Most of her appearance was from her mother. The curvature of her body, her straight nose, sexy red lips, and hair colour. Whereas, Letizia's eyes are from her father. Green.

The day ended with them having a small feast with pork, cooked in different styles.
