Chapter 3 - Throw her Away

In the meantime, she was ordered to remain inside the room as George does the talking and teaching. She was not introduced personally to the Baron, but Letizia is fine with that. She does not wish to be attached to this place nor face the mean-looking Miguel Hernan. Basically locked in the room, she took George's books and entertained herself with the political views written by an esteemed person.

Days resumed as is. Every morning, George would leave the study to teach the young master, then in the afternoon, the young miss. He could only educate Letizia in the evening. She has no complaints. A few days later, she was soon accepted as a maidservant. A person helping with the laundry. Per day, she earns about $10. Indeed, not very tempting. Her family makes more than this a day. Yet unable to complain, she persevered the harsh labor.

Raising up the sheets on the wire to dry it off, her mind caught the silhouette of a guy. She glanced and saw his dark brown eyes, watching her from beside a pillar. His presence could be noticed very easily since his person exuded pride. Both eyes connected with each other. The bright green and dark brown. It wasn't long before Letizia came out of the stupor and averted her eyes. She resumed to hang off the sheets, and the teen followed her every movement. Then, she was finished. The boy finally came up to her and spoke.

"Good Morning."

Ironically, it was already noon. But answering without any disrespect nor correcting the heir, she smiled. "Good Morning. It's such a nice day today." Small talk, she reminded herself.

"Indeed. You're very hard working. Letizia Mornington, right? I'm Denis. Nice to meet you." He stuck out his slightly chubby arms and waited for Letizia to return the greeting.

Letizia smiled. "Pleasure to meet you, young master." Although she responded back, her hand didn't touch his. She deemed it inappropriate.

The boy wryly smiled and began speaking, informing her of his experiences. She just nodded, smiled, and let out a small laugh. Eventually, she heard the calls of the older maids, and so, she glanced at Denis, who nodded and allowed her to leave. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it. Denis came to see her more than 4 times a week. Sometimes, even every day. It wasn't long before Letizia came to be comfortable around him. Uttering responses more freely than in the beginning, but she's still aware of her position.

After her supper, she returned back to their room. Only to be greeted by the stern gaze of George. He nodded and gestured for her to sit down on her bed. Letizia gulped. When she had sat down, she heard the sigh of her teacher.

"I know I'm in no position to say something like this, but as an older brother, I still wish to advise you to be careful. I will not prevent your decisions, but I only wish that both of you will be more aware of the eyes around you. And not do anything stupid that will cause a disaster. As I said before, the Baron is especially sensitive to these matters. Do you understand?"

Letizia was quiet, uttering nothing. His head was low, and his gaze on the floor. Once again, George sighed and stood up. "I'll go prepare the study materials. We'll study tomorrow." He left, and Letizia fell on her side, her expression filled with sadness and reluctance. Holding her blanket on close to her chest. The next day, her mannerism and aura had changed. Denis felt a bit of distance from her.

"Is something the matter?" He asked, watching her face. She could only shake her head, but eventually, she spoke up.

"I don't think this is proper. Maybe, we should stop this."

There was silence for a moment before he stood up and turned around, facing his back towards her. "Is our friendship really that shallow? If such a simple thing could break us apart, then is our relationship really genuine?" He asked, his voice deep, with hurt embedded in his words. Those hit her on her heart. Letizia refuted, taking back her words.

"No, I was just thinking. Since I might dirty your reputation, and the master might not like it." She stood up yet unable to touch him. Standing behind him, she resumed to coax him. It was a shock for her to see him act like this. Honestly, Letizia had not expected that he would treasure their friendship this much. Deep in her chest, a seed was planted.

In an instant, he turned around and held her in his arms. It was warm. Both felt soft, hugging each other. On the highest floor of the house, a man with a stern appearance watched them with disgust and disapproval. Gripping a broken pen, he turned around and sat down on his study desk. A few days passed, and yells increased throughout the house. The maids ignored the shouts of the Baron and resumed their duties. It was not them getting yelled at.

A few moments later, the door was slammed open and slammed close. The heir ran outside, leaving the residence. For an unknown reason, they knew he is heading to the servant's workhouse. They've seen him enough times.

Meanwhile, in her work station, Letizia saw Denis rushing towards her. His eyes, moist. Directly pressing her against his chest, she had no choice but to return the action. While in that position, they heard a bang and several footsteps rushing. They turned around and saw the guards in the residence.

"Throw her away!" The Baron yelled behind the five guards.

"NO!!" Denis screamed, hugging Letizia tighter. He picked her up and run but unfortunately, he is nothing against the trained guards. They were halted and forced apart. "Don't! What's wrong with being close to her?"

Although his pleadings are loud, for Letizia, they were very silent, almost with no sounds. Her eyes were on George. The disappointment on his eyes and the shaking of his head hurts her more. Regret filled her heart, and she was helpless. Powerless. During the whole ordeal, her mind was on something else. She had only realized where she was when her butt bounced on the dirt. Her gaze remained on the gate, unable to understand what had just happened. Her mind was blank. Letizia remained in that position an hour before a guard came out and gave her a trunk of something. She recognizes that as her trunk.

Opening the trunk, it has all her clothing and personal items. Even her books. There was a letter stuck on the side.

"I'm sorry, Letizia. I've put some coins in your trunk. For now, I'll pray that you will be fine. Despite the strict orders of Baron Hernan to not help you, I will still find a way to send you back home. I'm sorry-George."

While reading, Letizia felt something stuck on her throat. It wasn't long before tears flew down her cheeks, dripping down on the letter.
