Chapter 25 - Change

"Those pesky eyes!" I felt cheated as I watch Kirin Solana effortlessly gain information on Van. Even through any obstruction, her eyes can see through and do their work. Just like that, they were able to identify every position of our people in the outpost. Kirin Solana quickly devises a plan for their entry.

I had mixed feelings watching the current scene, it greatly amuses me watching Kirin Solana go with her young squad, and then at the same time feels like I'm betraying our own warriors... Don't worry, brave warriors, you will either get them or die doing your tasks. Either way, you will be contributing to your Lords.

While Kirin Solana is informing her squad of her plan, the marksman, if I believe I listened closely enough, Marve, spoke up and complained about it. "Are you sure about this? They are too many. Even if we get some kills, they will outnumber us" He said. "Like I said, I want you to get used to shooting real enemies. I didn't say clear them all out" Of course Kirin Solana would say something rather confusing and outrageous to these untrained children.

"I get what she's saying, but I'm not that confident to pull off some 'special forces' tactics yet" Sterling said. Clearly, her squad is showing uncertainty and fear, and yet Kirin Solana pushes them to do it, for the reason of 'training'. Even though it is obvious that it is reckless, they still obeyed her and embrace themselves. I can see Sterling's expression. An expression of discomfort and irritation. Unlike the others, Sterling probably knows the odds of them dying in this place better than they do. The others try their best to compose themselves, they are probably giving themselves hope, that they have a chance of going through this and coming back home unscathed.

With Kirin Solana on their side, maybe. But she won't be able to watch them at the same time. In the end, their skills are what will get them out of any situation. As I continue to watch them, one caught my attention. "Oof. Almost forgot..." Kirin Solana approached Marve and sticks a finger to his rifle. A few parts of the rifle lit up in response. "That pesky Krygstek technology!" My hands form into a fist as I hold back my anger. That rifle lit up like those of Krygstek's during our campaign against them.

We can never identify what causes them to light up like that and give them tremendous power. The moment those kinds of weapons are deployed in the field, the tide of war has turned greatly and outpowered most of us. We wouldn't be able to capture one either, the Krygstek has put so much security in them that they will explode the moment they capture a biological data of a Narukh'za. And to think Kirin Solana gets to have one and gave it to her squad...!

"That button makes it silent, it reduces your penetration as much as it reduces the noise, but-" ...Oh. Its function is to suppress the rifle? It wasn't what I was expecting at all. I guess they made variants of those button-powered rifles, ones that don't fire such horrendous power. After Kirin Solana finished with their plan, they all moved into action. Just like before, Marve stayed behind as he has a scoped rifle, the rest split up and moved toward the towers that guard the corners of the outpost. I also heard Kirin Solana mention that the button prevents the rifle from having flashes along with the suppressor.

As if the Arkula wasn't troublesome enough, the Krygstek had to join in with them against us. When we heard about it, I felt our warriors slightly shaken. Both are formidable enemies and our warriors know this fact very well. Arkula has both technology and organized hierarchy within their military ranks and well-thought strategies and practices in combat, and the Krygstek, although not the best in battle, violently dominates the battlefields with their incredibly advanced technology. If a society of organized military gets to hold the advanced weaponry and equipment of another society with insane inventors who knew nothing but make the battlefield their testing grounds, I had the feeling that they will get us eventually. Krygstek's weapons of mass destruction were too much for me to think of.

I quickly shook my head to clear out my mind from forming doubts about our own strength. When I focused back on my screen, both towers had already been taken out and the squad are moving in. The squad sloppily but silently eliminates any Narukh'za on their way. I focused on Kirin Solana's side. They approach a maintenance area where our armors are staying.

Kirin Solana has decided to silently occupy this area, my guess is that so none of the Narukh'za can mobilize them before they can 'go loud'. I assume that when she meant by going loud is breaking their silent infiltration and alarming the whole outpost. I don't see the floor of this plan, even though they are children, they seem to have a knack for what they're doing, they can just stay silent and get creative with their plans and the outpost will be theirs.

But then I quickly remember Kirin Solana spouting nonsense like training. As I watch, Kirin Solana and the two blonde siblings separate ways The young little Chirlin decides to split from her sister. I like strong children like her, she will grow into a fine warrior someday. Even though she's my enemy, I can't just deny the acknowledgment of bravery from others as a fellow warrior.

I wanted to focus on the child, so I took a peek at what Kirin Solana was doing... Nothing too interesting, at least not as interesting as how I can watch Chirlin kill an enemy. Currently, she is hiding behind a tank peeking at the corner to see a mechanic working. "I... I could die if I fail..." I can hear her whisper. Good girl. She knows the possibilities and a little mistake could lead her life to end. That's not something a child could easily comprehend so I get a little curious.

Also, up until now, this is the only time I saw fear on her face. Is it perhaps she's alone? Back there with the patrols, she seemed unaffected by the deaths of those Narukh'za. I don't know much about little children at her age, but witnessing a death of a person can distress them and start crying. I have not seen this on Chirlin.

Chirlin shook her head and gives herself some courage. I was almost captivated by the nature of a child called cuteness. I would suppress this particular feeling before, but now I don't mind, she looked cute shaking her head and encouraging herself. But that won't guarantee her safety, so I eagerly wait.

Chirlin keeps looking at the tank and its suspension, I'm guessing that she's planning to climb up the tank but does not know how. Then suddenly the mechanic ducks down to inspect something on the tank's suspension he's working on and I quickly saw Chirlin jolts. I can see her clear her throat in fear as she slowly makes her way behind the mechanic. It's either the mechanic really loved his job or Chirlin's presence is so small that the mechanic wasn't able to notice her at all.

As she nears him, she took out her handgun and raised it up in the air. She's going to slam that gun against his head, I eagerly wait. Chirlin flashes a violent expression before swinging the gun at the mechanic's head. "Huh...?!" Good gracious, what are the strengths of those puny arms?! I can feel the impact of the gun on his head, and there were blood splatters! She hits his head one more time before dropping the gun in panic, caused by her trembling hands. She darted around and throws herself at the toolbox of the mechanic.

Her tiny hands scramble through the tools and get their grips on a screwdriver. She quickly turns around to the mechanic and dug the screwdriver at his neck. "D...Die..." I looked at her face when she said it. There was no anger or similar expression, but rather fear. Somehow, she was able to say that out of fear. After staring at the eyes of the mechanic, she shakingly pulls away and watched the mechanic slowly bleed to his death.

Poor thing, her whole body is shaking, her eyes won't break away from the sight of the result of her actions. Up until the mechanic is no longer moving, Chirlin just stood there in silence, about to shed tears any time. "Huh...?!" I was shocked. As she stares at the mechanic's dead body, her arms slowly raises up in the air, her gaze and expression unchanged. I was totally bewildered, I could not understand what was going on, the mechanic was already dead!

"Holy shit, kid!" Suddenly, Kirin Solana arrived to witness the scene. I can see that she's in surprise as well. She quickly approaches Chirlin from behind. "Hey, hey, lower that thing now" She said as she grabbed both of her hands and pulled them down, and took the tool away. Chirlin slightly jumps as if she has just woken up. "Shit, I... I didn't... know you're actually going to..." I can clearly tell Kirin Solana is in deep shock and stuttering with her words. She calms herself and asks Chirlin if she's fine.

To my surprise, Chirlin was able to breathe fine and reply properly to her. Just what is this kid? Is she even a kid? Is there something I'm still not aware of children? "I know what's up, Chirlin. I have seen those kinds of looks before" I saw and heard Kirin Solana, about to say something serious to Chirlin. She proceeds to say her experiences of seeing Chirlin's reaction before, one caught my attention. "This is no game anymore like I told you" I heard her say. Chirlin thinks this is a... game? A game, like a sport? Is she even old enough to think that killing people is just a sport? No, not even Arkulan soldiers think that way, not at least until the reformed Arkula Lonara Hamarya has established after his father perished. The first Arkula enjoyed shooting at us.

That was a long time ago so Chirlin is totally not a child of a family within that era of Arkula. In the end, I couldn't understand the meaning of 'game' Kirin Solana mentioned. Moving on from that question, she also mentioned that they are fighting not because they hate us, but because they want us to change, for unity. Judging from her expression, saying that really weighs a lot. It's like she truly wished for something but doesn't have the strength to grasp it, something like that... Is she truly wishing for peace between our societies?

No matter how I look at her face, I can't sense anything that I wished that contradicts her wishes. "Arkula has been trying to convince the Narukh'za to stop their hostility towards their own kinds and to allow themselves, even just the civilians, to come back, not to Arkula, but to our homeworld Kryok" Not to come back to Arkula, but to Kryok? The Narukh'za... not coming back to Arkula but to Kryok? Does she mean that they're trying to get us to live here peacefully with them?

Such rainbow-filled wish usually enrages me, but I can feel none of that now. There's definitely something we're not understanding about Arkula. I know of it, I'm certain. Such a revolutionary time, I looked down at my trembling hands, thinking that this very moment could totally change me.

Kirin Solana looked up to the skies, she has the look of one who is reminiscing. "This planet, where our kind has finally flourished, had peace. We slowly recovered from that grim history" She gently smiles as she says that. I felt an emotion that I can't understand, but it's something that pains me inside. Her smile didn't last long and quickly shifted to a pained emotion. "But as we're finally having a steady life, some people just became discontented. From small complaints... to treason" That's right. The true history of Narukh'za is a family with a big influence leading a quite large community. Stealing equipment from the military, they escaped from here to seek another planet to live on and start a conquest of space.

After having a small talk, Kirin Solana checked in with the other team and she stages her next plan. A confused member has asked a question about bombs. "There are a lot more things you haven't found out with my eyes yet" I grit my teeth as I learn that. Apparently, her eyes also has the ability to materialize specific items that are recorded on her 'database'. That's definitely Krygstek's work. They probably asked for help from those crazy people. This just adds more to my fear of Krygstek.

Kirin Solana blabbers to her squad before actually moving on to their next move.
