Living in what I had assumed was a normal family, I could never have guessed what tables were about to turn my everyday life into a future where the next morning isn't certain..
It was fresh summer day, the breeze was blowing from the beach of my family's summer home in the Hamptons. Yes, the one in upstate New York. You're probably also wondering wow your family must have some money. The answer is yes, my father homes a hotel chain and other few business that bring in a good bit of money. Now my mother on the other, that's where all the fun and interesting stuff happens.
She is how to say a "spy" or "badass secret agent," she is very good at her job also. She is always recommended for the hardest missions and everything.
I have an older brother David. He is 24 and plays for the LA Galaxy. It was founded by David Beckham, a family friend. David has short dark brown hair that oddly doesn't need jell to keep it sticking up. He has that athletic build from the years of sports he played, plus he works out some to stay toned when it's not soccer or football season. He has a tattoo of our late grandfather on his left arm and on his right arm he has a sleeve of flowers that makes you think of Hawaii. David is just a younger version as our dad just a little bit skinnier, because our dad is more muscular.
Then there is my twin sister and I Stacey, were both 22 and she is the oldest by 5 minutes. My name is Cody, and I'm also the shortest male in the family and shorter than most females too. My sister is engage to her best friend and also college sweetheart Daniel or also known as Danny. My sister is a model and does a little acting too. She has that long golden blonde hair that we both have and get from our grandmother, with strong features in the face that we get from our mother. You can honestly mistake her for a Victoria Secret model, because she takes care of her body and is the right size to be one.
I have the same color hair as my sister does, except my hair is semi long on top and front but cut short in the sides and back. Were the only ones that you wouldn't think be biological to our mom and dad. It's cause our hair is brighter and the only thing that proves we are is our facial structure cause it's like our mother's. Plus being the shortest guy, makes it interesting when everyone gets together.
Now we have my little siblings, Brandon who is 8 and Abigail or Abby for short who is only 5 who is just adorable! They are spoiled cause they are the youngest out of us and my mom and dad are getting older so they slowed down and a lot of things. Brandon has our dad's dark hair, but has features of both our parents. Abby has mom's dirty blonde hair and if you hold up a photo of our mom at her age next to Abby you would think it's Abby in the photo. She looks just like our mom, which is probably why dad spoils her the most.
As I lean on the balcony that connects to my bedroom with summer sun casting on my body as I tell you a little bit about my family and I till you learn more about us later on. Before you start trying to guess my height, if you know the height of the author of this book. Then you know how tall I am, and that's not very tall for a 22 year old male. Did I just break what they call in the movies, the fourth wall. Yes I did, yes I did haha.
As I watch the ocean rush against the beach, I think about how bless I am to be alive and live the life I live.
"Cody!!!" Abigail hollers from down below.
"Yes Abby?" I smile and look down towards her.
"Can you take me to the beach and play with me?" she pouts with the puppy dog eyes.
As you know its hard to say no to that. "Sure, let me go get ready and I'll be down!" I respond heading into my room.
All I heard was her screaming from joy as I got changed smiling. I grab a towel and my sunglasses putting my flip flops on. As I made my way down stairs, our favorite and long time house keeper Rosa handed me a basket.
Rosa has been with our family since we were little, mom meet her when she was in El Salvador and just had to have her help with us full time. She has that dark hair and tan skin, I'm just glad she's still with us.
"Here you go senor Cody." she smiled while handing me the basket.
"Thank you Rosa, I hope everything is going good with your family." I smiled and hugged her.
"They are good and wanted to say thank you to the family for the month of food so we could take that vacation." she teared when I hugged her.
They been planning a trip to the city, but were never able to go cause they spent a lot on food. So the whole family surprised them with a month worth of food. Just so they can take the vacation they been trying to for a year.
I told her it's ok and everything, I head outside where Abby is waiting for me.
"Cody!!!" she tackled my leg hugging it.
"You ready??" I take her hand and head down the path that leads to the beach.
Abby ran into the water once reach the beach. While she was playing in the sand and water, I laid out the big beach towel and pull out what's in the basket. Rosa loaded up the basket with my favorite chicken sandwich, Abby's favorite snacks and peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I found two waters, my favorite soda Diet Mountain Dew, Abby's apple juice.
I watch Abby play in the water laughing and smiling. I pull out my phone and took some video of her playing and I took a couple photos of the food and of me. I upload them onto my Instagram page where my 1 million followers are. When uploaded the video of Abby playing everyone went crazy, saying how adorable she is and everything. I uploaded the photo of the food and of me, then I put my phone down and went to play with her.
Abby thought it be funny to splash me as soon as I got to her, so I chased her and splashed her. We laughed and smiled the whole time. After about thirty minutes, we started getting. So I grabbed the towels and started drying her off and then I dried myself off. She was so hungry she ripped the sandwich bag that her sandwich was in. While she was eating, I deiced to eat my sandwich and check my phone.
I had text from my sister asking where I was with Abby. I told her we're at the beach and as soon as I sent the text I heard.
"Their you guys are!" Stacey said while walking with Brandon and David towards us.
"Hey!! What's up?" I smiled looking up at them.
They joined us with their food and we caught up with what they did. They went into town to find something for mom's birthday but they didn't have any luck. Her birthday is next week but we haven't found the perfect gift for her.
"Maybe we should make something for mommy for her birthday" Brandon suggest while drinking his tea.
Abby light up like firework when she heard that, we all looked at her and said "Is that what you wanna do?"
She nodded her head like a bobble head, making all of us laugh. We finished our food and took a family photo of just the kids. Which we can use for the gift.
After awhile of relaxing we decided to head back inside, when we walked through the back door. We heard mom and dad talking in the kitchen.
"I know honey that this event is on your birthday but we have to go, plus the kids will be able to go. Which I know you'll enjoy" our dad was telling mom, to make her feel better about next week.
We walk into the kitchen before mom could say anything.
"Mom it be really fun and everything, plus everyone has to tell you happy birthday and we'll have the perfect gift for you by then." Stacey was telling her with a smile.
What seem like forever mom finally agreed to go and we all cheered. David and I stepped away to run to the store for crafting materials.
Mom has her shoulder length dirty blonde hair, strong facial structure. Like she looks like Angelina Jolie back when she did Tomb Raider and Mr. & Mrs. Smith movies. Which I love those movies, I think those are amazing movies. People always ask what her secret is of how she got her body back after having 5 kids.
Now dad hasn't changed much except his hair, it's getting some gray in it. He is still built like he was years ago, maybe a little less muscular which is replaced with a little fat. But mom doesn't care cause she's as happy as she's been the day started dating and got married. They been married for 26 years now.
"We need to get her favorite color and stuff that represent each of us." David was telling me while I was printing out the photo of all the kids.
"Yeah, but you think they will have everything?" I asked him while I grabbed the photo of us.
He started looking around for stuff that represent all the kids, and I went to find her favorite color. After about 10 minutes of looking we found everything we needed and went to check out at the register. As soon as we got there we saw people who were fans of us waving through the window. We paid for everything and head outside, we hugged and signed things for them and took some photos with them.
They were so nice to let us go so we can get home, we thank them and told them we wanna see those photos online later. Obviously they got excited and screamed, while we pulled away heading home. After arriving home, we headed upstairs to find the others so we can work on the gift.
We found the others in the game room playing a Lego game while Stacey was on the phone. Most likely with Danny, who is awesome. I sat the bagged down which got their attention and ran over to it, causing Stacey to hang up the phone.
I look at her "You were talking to Danny weren't you?"
She just smiled and nodded her head. Then points towards the bag "Is that everything we need for it?"
"It is and I have the photo also so will make it better" I said and sat the photo down on the counter.
After about a couple hours and few glitter mishaps and glue on hands, we got the gift finished. I took the gift and hid it in my room, cause it's the only one that stay's the cleanest and we don't want anyone to see it till mom's birthday. I stepped out of my room and then I smelled that dinner is ready.
"I smell food!!!!" I yelled coming down the stairs.
Everyone just looked and laugh at me cause I could smelled it from my room. We all sat at the table, mom and dad on both ends, Stacey, Abby and me on one side, and David and Brandon on the other side. Tonight we are having lasagna with garlic bread sticks. Which is all our favorites and would not last long either. During dinner, Abby was talking about the time at the beach she was had today.
Her little curls bouncing while telling the story, Brandon looking at her jealous cause he couldn't spend time at the beach today. Mom and dad were smiling and enjoying the story. Which makes me happy, they truly enjoy their kids stories and listening to them. And not a lot of parents do that, which sucks. But I am so lucky to have amazing parents. Even if you don't have parents like that, if you have a friend that does that or a sibling. That is just as amazing.
Was that another fourth wall break? Uhh yes it was people haha. As we enjoy our food and talk to each other and find out more about the event next week. It turns out the event is to help raise awareness for animal cruelty. Which we all are against, cause we love animals.
It started getting late when we finished dinner, Rosa already left to go home while we were eating. So me, Stacey, and David did the dishes. While mom and dad got the little ones ready for bed and bathe.
"You think she'll love the gift? And what you think dad is getting her for her birthday?" I asked while washing a plate.
They kept washing and drying while they think, then David said "I know she'll love the gift from us, but as for what dad is getting. I don't have a clue. You sis?" he turns and looks at Stacey.
She continue to dry a plate "Honestly I don't have a clue either. But whatever it is, it be beautiful and special though."
David and me agreed on that it be beautiful and special. We finished the dishes and headed upstairs to tell Abby and Brandon goodnight. We stepped into Abby's room first cause it was the closest.
"We came to tell you goodnight Abby." Stacey said when we came over to her princess theme bed. We told her goodnight and gave her hugs.
We stepped out as dad came in to tell her night. We head towards Brandon's room and peeked in to see if mom is done telling him goodnight.
She looked up and waved us in, "Came to say goodnight?"
"Yeah we did, goodnight Brandon." I said and gave him a hug and hugged mom.
I waited for Stacey and David, and we headed back to the game room and relaxed. "What should we do? I feel like doing something but not sure what to do though." David said while flipping through the TV channels.
Stacey was thinking while texting on her phone, "Well we can go out for a little while to bar or something. I know your still trying to get over her David."
I nodded in agreement, he got hurt by the girl he was in love with. They were together for 4 years, so me and Stacey try to get his mind off it when all of us are together.
David thought it be a good idea and time to move on. So we all went into our rooms to change and get ready for the night. David was the first one to be ready, he came to my room while I finish getting ready. I was having trouble with deciding what to do with my hair.
"Is Stacey ready yet?" I asked as I stepped out of my bathroom after putting my hair up in a small bun.
Before David could say anything she walks in the room. We all wearing jeans and a nice t-shirts that have cool designs on them. For once Stacey isn't wearing any heels and went with a pair vans. After we got our wallets and everything, we headed out after telling mom we be back in a few hours.
David drove us to the bar that we always go to since Stacey and I turned 21, The Castle. We pull into a parking spot and got out heading inside while people took photos of us. The owner's wife Carol saw us and came over and greeted us.
"Isn't it my favorite customers, it's been awhile hasn't." she said as she showed us to our booth.
"Yeah it has and it's always good to see you Mrs. Martin, how's your husband?" I ask when we sat down.
She told us how he was doing and asked what we wanted to drink. "Oh and call me Carol, you guys are our favorite people." she tells us and smiles.
I order a long island ice tea, David orders a beer, and Stacey orders a Bloody Mary. She walks to the bar to get our drinks.
"Have you talked or seen her since the break up?" I ask David after we get our drinks.
"I haven't seen her, but I talked to her a little bit. Just nothing good honestly." he says looking down sipping on his beer.
Kelly his now ex girlfriend, broke his heart. And we don't know why or anything and he's been trying to find out for a few weeks.
"Wait won't she be at the event next week? Since her mom is hosting the event. Like she would be there to support her right?" Stacey asked while drinking her drink.
I start to think while David answers her "I think so, but I honestly not sure since we broke up."
I grab my phone and text my friend Courtney who is friends with Kelly. "I just texted Court, asking if Kelly is going. Since they are best friends."
Before one of them could respond, my phone goes off with a text from Court.
Court: Yeah she's going to be there. David wants answers doesn't he? I don't blame him, and I'll see you next week!!
Cody: Thanks Court!! See you next week!
"Yeah she'll be there, and Court will be too. She wants you to have answers too and hopes you get them too." I tell them when I put my phone away.
"Good and Danny will be too, he wants to be here to tell mom happy birthday." Stacey says as she looks up from her phone smiling.
We all cheered and smiled, it's been awhile since we seen Danny but we all are excited to see him. I sip my drink and noticed the pool table not being used.
"Wanna play pool?" I point towards it.
"Yes!" they said at the same time.
We get up and head over to it and started playing pool. At first it was Stacey vs David, and it was a close game but David won. Then it was me against Stacey, and she won that. After that me and David went against each other, and I won that. We played for another hour and we had a couple more drinks and went home.
We got home about 12am and all went to our rooms after saying goodnight. I got to my room changed into shorts and fell into bed passing out.
