Present time:
Naxos, Greece
Maera had waken up early that morning to get a head start towards the expedition site at the temple. She was staying in one of the houses that was rented for her and some her classmates. There was six of them staying in the house. It was a white color bungalow that sat near the sea. Her other classmates were staying in a different house that was rented out while they were here studying the ruins on the island.
The locals who lived here were all very kind and friendly to them. Maera heard that some of the locals still believed in the old ancient gods. They were even superstitious about angering the old gods. Some of the people here told them strange things happen out at in the sea for no reason. As if the god Poseidon himself still commanded the sea. Maera believed in some of what the locals thought. For she herself was born with abilities that couldn't be explained.
A few months back her professor asked Maera if should would join this years expedition to Greece, and would help lead the team. She was super ecstatic and said yes. For who wouldn't want to go and travel to study at something that she spent her whole life being fascinated by Ancient Greece and the the stories of old gods and heroes.
When she and the others first arrived about two weeks ago in the main capital Naxos, Maera went out exploring the city. The ancient castle and fort that surround it still stood to this day, and was turned into a museum for those visit. The capitol Naxos was where the legends of the demigod king Aeolus ruled and the sea nymph Actaea who raised him lived in the main temple. At least that was what Maera had read when studying about the legends.
While out exploring on her first day she came across the main square where there was a huge market, with so many different stalls. There was all sort of amazing things that was in the market. From spices, fruit, vegetables, cheeses, beautiful clothes, and amazing hand crafted jewelry.
Maera had also studied the Ancient Greek langue as well as the present langue. While at the market she came across a stall that sold beautiful hand crafted jewelry. It was run by a middle age woman who strangely resembled her aunt Thetis. Which was impossible, and Maera couldn't shake the feeling that she meet this woman before. The woman had dark brown wavy hair, grey color eyes, and kind looking face. Just like her aunt, the same hair and eye color.
Maera went up to the stall to look at the jewelry that was displayed on the table. "You see something you like dear?" The woman said in English to her Maera. She looked up the woman, surprised for a moment. "Everything looks all so beautiful. It's hard to choose."
"Take your time, let me know if you see anything you like." The woman turned to help another customer that came up to the stall. Maera looked back down at the displays in front her. Suddenly one of the necklaces caught her eye. It was a dark green stone in the shape of an oval with a silver border around it with an inscription written on it, was linked with a silver chain. She's seen it before in her dreams. Maera's heart suddenly raced faster as she stared at the stone. How was it that the very same necklace in her dreams real and sitting in front of her?
Those damn visions again, messing her head. Was the dreams she was having of the mysterious man, her in a blue gown and wearing the same necklace all connected? Was it something that would happen? She wasn't sure, but the thought made the hair on her arms stand up, and the thought of having a vision made Maera feel uneasy. She was about to walk away from the necklace but the woman who ran the stall stopped her.
"You noticed the necklace." She picked up the very one that Maera was staring at. "It has special properties. Not just any necklace. The stone itself came from the main temple on the cliff over looking the sea. It was dedicated to Poseidon and his queen. And was over seen by the great sea nymph Actaea. The stone itself is magical, given to the demigod Aeolus from his father to protect him. He then gave it to his one true love, a young woman who also had the the gift of second sight. The young woman was a relative to the high priestess Aectea. She suddenly appeared after a major storm, some say she was a sea nymph like Aectea, others say she was a human that was favored by the gods for her gift of second sight."
Maera couldn't believe the story she was hearing. That there was a young woman who was possibly a sea nymph, and was the one true love of the demigod king Aeolus? It sounded all to familiar, it sounded like the young woman was Maera herself. It was to real. Maera tried to think of it in a logical way.
Perhaps there was another sea nymph who had been on the island. There were 50 sisters in all and each had their own magical abilities. Or perhaps this true love of the demigod happen to be an ordinary woman, was it Maera herself? Was it a past life of hers?
It couldn't be true though. Time travel was something that was only thought up in stories. She even studied the history of this island. There was no written record of the demigod king having a queen. He did have an heir, a son to pass on the throne, but the only mention of the child's mother was that she was a concubine. Perhaps she was Aeolus's one true love. Why not marry her though, and make her queen? To many questions and no answers. She was so lost in thought that she didn't hear the woman talking.
"Well dear, do you want to see the necklace?"
"If this necklace is from the ancient past? Shouldn't it be displayed in a museum then? If it's an ancient artifact?"
"This necklace has only recently appeared. It's been missing for centuries. Like I said it has mythical properties. The stone itself is powerful." Maera wasn't sure if she believed the woman but she has seen things in her visions that made her believe. Since she herself and the women in her family were born with this so called gift of second sight. "I think I'll hold off on it for now, but thank you." The woman nodded her head to her and turned to another customer. Maera couldn't get away fast enough from the stall and the necklace. She turned to head back to the main house. Her head was spinning with all this information she had learned. She hoped she can find the answers now that she was here. And learn the secrets of the island.
