Naxos, Greece
Present time
After the call with her aunt, Maera sat outside a little longer just staring at the sea. She was trying to process everything that she has learned. The necklace possessing the dark green stone came to her thoughts. Maera knew to stay away from the necklace and heed her aunts warning, but why did she have a feeling that the necklace had to with the past. She had to go back to the market and take another look at the necklace. So, she got dressed to go out, she threw on a pair of tan shorts, white tank top, and her sandals. She grabbed her mini blue back pack, and headed outside the house. Maera walked over to a moped. She had rented it while staying here on the island. It was easy to learn and got her places around the town.
She started it up, put on the helmet and headed to the market. It was a short ride to the market, once she got there she parked the bike, and headed to the booth that sold the jewelry. It was late afternoon and the market wasn't very busy. Some of the shop keepers were packing up for the day. Maera found the stand with the no problem. The woman who ran was there, and it still gave Maera a strange feeling being near a woman who looked like her aunt, and the uneasy feeling of a vision coming on. "So you have returned? Looking for the necklace that belonged to Aeolus'a love?"
"Perhaps. I couldn't get it out of my head since I saw it a few weeks ago. Do you still have it?"
The woman smiled, she stood up and turned to the back of the stall. "I kept it in the back, I had a feeling you would return. And I saved it for you." The woman came back over to her, and was carrying the necklace. The stone looked like it was almost glowing. "The stone calls for you. It's connected to you." Maera reached out for it, and suddenly the stone shone brighter. "It's true then, the stone belonging to the past, to the ancient gods. It's has powers."
"It belongs to you dear, you are connected to it. You have powers too. Don't you? A gift of sight from the gods?"
"How do you know? And why do you resemble my aunt Thetis? And how do you know about this stone and the story behind it?" The woman smiled at her. "Come back this way and I will tell you." Maera followed the woman and headed to the back of the stall. The older woman covered the front of her booth, so people wouldn't disturb them. "Sit down dear. I know many things, such the story of the stone, and you having the sight. You know there are things that can't be explained, and I'm sure your aunt already told you to be carful for digging into the past. What if I told you that the old ancient gods still exists in this day in age. They are not to be messed with. What if I told you that all the history of the gods, the creatures in the Greek stories were real. The sea nymphs were real, all of it was real. Still is, but forgotten by people, humans. There are very few that still pray to us. The old gods."
"You're saying that they still exist? You're saying you're a goddess of Ancient Greece?" Maera couldn't believe it, but for someone who was gifted with the second sight. Who would have thought the stories her aunt told her were true. It was true, the first in their family Actaea, daughter of Nereus was gifted with the second sight from Poseidon for caring for his son Aeolus. "You're Actaea? The sea nymph, head priestess of the temple of Poseidon and his queen Amphitrite? You're one her sisters?"
"What would you say if I said yes? Would you believe me?"
"Well yes, I mean I was born into a family with all women are born with the gift of second sight. It's something that can't be explained. My aunt said that there are things out there that have no explanation. You're my ancestor, the first to receive the gift of second sight, and was passed to each female descendants. That's why you resemble my aunt Thetis."
"Thetis? You know my sister?"
"No my aunt, each family born is given a name of the 50 sea nymph. It's a long tradition in my family. My name is Maera."
"Maera, I haven't heard that name in a long time. I haven't seen some of my sisters in centuries. Time doesn't exist when your an immortal. I have lived a very long time. Part of my curse, to live forever. When Aeolus died Poseidon was devastated, and my sister Amphitrite blamed me for his death. He died protecting his beloved and son. He wasn't meant to die that day. I was supposed to protect him. But I couldn't get to him in time to heal him. That moment is something that have always hunted me. And for it I was cursed to never die."
"You lived all this time, cursed to live forever, as punishment? How did Aeolus die if he was half immortal? Wasn't he a demigod?"
"Yes, he was but he was also venerable. He was stabbed to death by his enemy. His half brother Otto, a high priest dedicated to the Titian Kronos. He was always jealous of Aeolus, for their father Poseidon favored him more than Otto."
"Otto, that name sounds familiar. I've read something before about that name. He was one of Poseidon's off springs from a moral woman. He wasn't born with any powers. Aeolus was one of the few born with gifts. It was said he could control the winds. That is why he is was favored by their father."
"Yes, Otto had found a dagger that was not an ordinary dagger. It was forged by the god Hephaestus. The blade could cut thru anything or anyone. It could kill an immortal. Otto had gotten his hands on it, and was determined to end Aeolus's life or take away the two things in his life that meant everything to him. His true love, a woman gifted with the second sight, and their son Drakon."
"Am I that woman? Do I really belong in the past?" Maera couldn't believe all this. "You're destiny is in the past. With your true love, and the son you will have."
