Chapter 3 - Office Rumors

"I have some invoices that need the president's signature." Stacy Su from the accounting department told her, dropping them on her desk.

"No problem." Gemma replied.

"The office bet about how long you'll last here is getting interesting." Stacy Su told her.

"I'm sure. Tell them to put me down for a bet." Gemma said.

"You want to bet...on yourself?" Stacy Su asked.

"Absolutely. I bet a whole paycheck that as long as President Wen is here, then I will be here." Gemma said.

"You do know he's an employee eating tyrant, right?" Stacy asked.

"Ha! I wish he'd eat me. What a night that'd be!" Gemma said.

"Gemma. You're, really unique." Stacy said.

"I know." Gemma laughed at her own self.

"Hey, who's suit jacket is that?" Stacy asked.

"The President's. He didn't want me to get cold." Gemma said.

Stacy rolled her eyes.

"President Wen, Have you seen the company forums?" His secretary, John Li asked.

"No..." he replied in a bored voice.

"You should probably look now, sir."

Charles pulled up the company forum page. At the very top of the forum was a photo taken of Gemma, working at her desk, wearing his suit coat. The post was captioned, "I wish he'd eat me! What a night that'd be!" It discussed that Gemma was having a secret affair with the President Charles Wen.

"Gemma!" Charles's voice was so loud it shook the walls.

"Sir? She asked as she entered his office.

"Explain this!" He said thru gritted teeth.

She came to stand beside him and stared at the computer screen.

"I had nothing to do with this! This is...awkward. Wow." Gemma said.

"Awkward? Awkward for you?! What about me?" Charles yelled.

"Look, you're the one who made me wear the suit coat! I didn't consent to any picture being taken either. She must have done it secretly." Gemma explained.

"She? Who is she?" Charles growled.

"Stacy Su from accounting. She left purchase orders for you to sign. I was about to bring them to you when you hurt my ears with my own name." Gemma grumbled.

"You dare take that tone with me?" His voice deadly and cold.

"I take it with people who scream at me without cause, yes." She met his stare without wavering.

"I don't even know why you're irritated. It's an honor for you to be in a relationship with me. But for me this is...this is an insult!" He yelled.

"Could you lower your voice please? I'm right beside you. And what do you mean being with me is an insult?! You don't know anything about me, so how would you know?" Gemma shot back at him.

"This—this quote they claim you said..." he gestured toward the computer.

"Oh. Well, yes I did say that. But I was defending you!" Gemma insisted.

"How does a conversation flow in which me eating you is a defense for me? In what universe does that happen?" Charles threw up his hands.

"She said you were an employee eating tyrant. I said, well, you know what I said." Gemma reasoned.

"Not brave enough to say it to my face, I see." He goaded. Crap. Why did I say that, he thought. Now she thinks I'm flirting.

"I'm not afraid to say it. You don't want to hear it though. So why should I? Gemma rebutted.

"And here, you better take this before someone grabs another photo of me." She took off the jacket and draped it on the back of his chair. She left his office and slammed his door.
