Chereads / Rebirth of Artemis / Chapter 88 - Hephaestus, God of Forgery

Chapter 88 - Hephaestus, God of Forgery

Terra and Delta scaled down the mountain of Olympus. They stumbled upon a small part of land engraved into the side of the mountain. There was a medium-sized house sitting there.

Delta: What is this place?

Terra: Look at the sign. Says "forgery"

Delta: Oh, I know who this is.

Terra: Who?

Delta: It's obviously Hapheastus. He's the god of the forge.

Terra: I remember. Artemis contacted him when I got my second set of armor.

Delta: Let's go in.

Terra: Why? We've gotta make it to the library.

Delta: What if we get into a fight with an Olympian? Or any Olympian creature for that matter? Hades dominated us. We need new armor. And I'm a big fan of his...Y'know?

Terra: Okay okay. Let's go in.

They entered the shop.

Terra: Hey! Anyone in here? Hephaestus?

They heard metal clanging.

Delta: He's probably there.

They walked through the workshop. There were tons of sets of armor, swords, and other weapons fashioned.

Terra: Holy crap, he made a replica of Athena's shield? And Ares' sword? This is awesome.

Delta picked up a bow and arrow off of the wall. She held it a bit and pulled back the string. She heard someone stomp into the room.

???: What are you two doing here?

Delta: That's not…

A pure gold robot stood in the doorway. It towered over the two. Maybe ten feet tall. It had golden eyes, and a little vent in its stomach that Hephaestus's voice came out of.

Terra: Hephaestus? I'm Terra, and this is Delta-

Hephaestus: I know who you two are. Come to my chamber. I want a closer look.

Terra: Closer look?

Hephaestus: At your armor, of course.

They followed Hephaestus's automata. It walked very roughly. Not to mention slowly. It showed them to Hephaestus. Who was sitting in a wheelchair.

Hephaestus: Hello children. Sorry I couldn't come to see you. I was working on another automata. One of these days I want these machines to do my work for me.

Delta: Wow, it's really impressive.

Terra: For Olympus, I guess.

Hephaestus laughed.

Hephaestus: Do you think you can do better than me?

Terra: O-oh, I didn't mean to be rude. Where I'm from, robots are much more slim than this. A lot less, robotic?

Hephaestus: Isn't that the point? We wouldn't want robots to act just like humans. Or worse, gods. I will take into account your slim proposition. Less weight means less energy usage.

Hephaestus turned around and scribbled something in a notebook.

Hephaestus: Either way, I wanted to look at your armor. It is very interesting. Delta, come forth.

Delta anxiously walked to Hephaestus.

Delta: I know. It isn't great. I had it fashioned by my team.

Hephaestus: Your team is reliable. This armor is strong. You have no risk of being pierced with this armor.

Hephaestus looked at Terra.

Hephaestus: But you, it's a mess. I mean, your armor only covers like, 20% of your body! I imagine you get stabbed in battle a lot!

Terra: You wouldn't believe the half of it.

Hephaestus wheeled over to Terra. He started lifting her shirt.

Terra: Hey! What are you doing?

Hephaestus: I want to see the amount of scars you have. Look at your face. A big scar across. Clearly from an impressive blade.

Terra lifted her shirt. She was well built still. But she had many scars going down her torso.

Hephaestus: Do you think there's a reason you have so many scars?

Terra: Lots of my enemies have swords? And, y'know. I don't cover enough of my body.

Hephaestus: Delta, your armor fits to your body. It looks natural. Some wouldn't even expect your shirt is actually armor. It covers her entire body. All her vitals are protected. Even her gloves serve as protection! Only your chest is protected! Your gauntlets only cover your wrist. But you use them as fists. Your shinguards don't cover your entire leg! Not even the back! Your armor needs to be remade as soon as possible. Artemis really wanted style. No substance.

Delta: My mom never cared for style. She designed my armor.

Hephaestus: I'm not talking about your "mother", which she isn't. She's more like a mentor.

Delta: Then who are you talking about?

Hephaestus: Her name is supposed to be forgotten to the olympians. But I don't care for my siblings' rituals. Yuri was the first of the Olympians. Under the guise of Artemis.

Terra: What? There was another Artemis before the one we all know?

Hephaestus: And there'll be a third. We are all fated to be replaced.

Delta: Come on, tell us more!

Hephaestus: I'll tell you more if I get to tweak that armor! Delta, your armor could use a few tweaks. Armor on the arms, and possibly some portugues. Terra, your armor needs a full rework. We will work together on that.

Terra: So I get to design my own armor?

Delta: Hm. There's some tweaks I'd like to make.

Hephaestus: You will both get the chance. I will take your ideas. Then I have a mission for the both of you. Someone I want you to train with. She will teach you about the way Olympian's fight. So? Give me your ideas.

Delta: You think I can get a piece of paper?

Terra: Yeah, make that two pieces of paper.

Terra and Delta were climbing another mountain.

Terra: You tired of climbing already?

Delta: I could climb all day. We had to climb up and down that waterfall over and over. Guess who always won?

Terra: Then why are you behind me?

Delta: I wouldn't want to embarrass you.

Terra: Yeah ri-

Terra lost her footing for a split second and fell.

Terra: Shit!

Delta grabbed her arm.

Terra: whew, nice save, Delta.

Delta was looking down at Terra with a confused expression as opposed to her carefree one she had a second ago.

Terra: Hey, throw me up. We don't have all day.

It was like she was possessed by the rage that had fueled her all this time. Terra had been seeing a very different side of Delta before. Now, this was the one she knew.

Delta: I could drop you. What would Zeus really do? He wants me as the next anyway.

Terra: Delta. You know that isn't what you want.

???: Hey! What are you two doing down there? Get up here!

Delta: Right. It isn't what you want.

Terra: Well obviously it isn't,

Delta threw Terra up to the top. She climbed the rest of the way up.

A beautiful woman stood in front of them she wore a black dress, with skulls on her shoulders, and three skulls across her chest. She had black leggings and wore sandals.

Delta: Woah.

Terra: Who are you?

???: I'm Persephone. Hephaestus sent me a message about you two.

Delta: He sent us here to train...or something.

Persephone: Do you think I can't fight?

Delta: O-of course you can fight!

Terra: I think Hephaestus just wanted time to make our new armor.

Persephone: There is much I may be able to teach you. Your armor isn't as rare as it seems. It's quite easy to make. In Olympus, there will be many people with armor as strong, if not stronger than yours. That's why he sent you to me. I can make your armor stronger.

Delta: How?

Persephone: A sacred plant of mine can enchant your armor. Make it stronger. The Asphodel could strengthen your armor.

Terra: What's that?

Persephone: A sacred water from a plant. That I can soak your armor in.

Delta: Oh, awesome. So we just have to wait for our armor to be finished, and then we can strengthen it even further-

Persephone changed her stance quickly and ran up to Delta. She jumped up in the air like she was going to knee Delta in the face.

Delta: What are y-

A piece of armor flew in from behind and hit Delta in the head, pushing her into Persephone's knee.

Persephone: We're here to learn. Not to sit around. I've never fought others on my level before.

Terra: Doubt we're on your level.

Terra and Delta both jumped at Persephone with kicks. Persephone ducked under, and a chestplate came from behind and attached to her as soon as Delta threw a kick she hit the chestplate and Persephone hit her in the face with her leg-guard and clipped it back on. Terra threw a couple hooks and then a string of punches. Persephone blocked and a gauntlet came down, trapping one of Terra's hands on her arm. Persephone threw Terra right off of her and kicked her down to the ground. Delta jumped over Terra and took out her two guns. She shot a barrage of bullets down at Persephone in the air. Persephone's chestplate came off and blocked the shots and hit Delta in the face. As she fell Persephone punched her off the cliff. But Delta was dragged back up with Persephone's gauntlet.

Persephone: You two don't know the potential that lies in your armor. You have to be in great harmony. In sync with your suits of armor. Get up.

Delta got to her feet. She leaned on a rock.

Persephone: Even you Terra, with that amount of armor could block everything your opponent throws at you. You Delta, you need to learn to utilize that armor more. Terra, what did you commission your new armor as anyway?

Terra: I don't want to be seen as Artemis. I already am enough thanks to this stupid bird on my back. I personalized my armor a little. It looks nothing like this armor. But I kept the things I liked.

Persephone: Interesting. You want to be your own god. The public will get used to that.

Terra: I don't really wanna be a god at all...I want to be, me I guess. Not Terra the terrorist, not Terra the god of earth.

Persephone: Labels are something that has to be accepted. But don't let the labels change you. Let us go to Hepheastus's forge. See what he whipped up for you two.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Persephone, Terra and Delta walked into the forge.

Terra: Why did you come with us Persephone? Aren't you supposed to stay wherever your post is?

Delta: Why's it a problem that she came with us?

Persephone: Even immortal life gets boring when you constantly do the same thing. We're going to see something great!

Hephaestus rolled into the main room.

Hephaestus: Aunt Persephone! I didn't expect to see you here!

The two gods came to each other. Persephone kneeled down and hugged Hephaestus.

Hephaestus: Delta and Terra. Come take a look.

Terra and Delta eagerly came to look at what Hephaestus had made them. Both of their armor were on dummies. Terra now had a full chestplate. That covered all the way down to the top of her midsection. Plus her black undersuit was remodeled to be bulletproof. She had larger shinguards, and now her portugues were more rigid and armored. Her gauntlets were more like gloves. Which packed more of a punch. They went up to her elbows. And she had shoulder-guards.

Delta's suit was similar from last time. She wore a full grey long-sleeve shirt now, that fell into three separated portugues which went down to her knees. Her shinguards covered the rest of her entire leg. She now had a short windbreaker that cut off at her midsection. It was all blue with light grey highlights.

Hephaestus: And you all will get to show off your new armor at a little place called the Thunderdome!

Terra: The thunderdome?

Hephaestus: It's where Olympus's greatest go to battle it out. You've been signed up.

Delta: It was probably Zeus…

Terra: Fucking Zeus...He starting to annoy you now?

Delta: Maybe a little.

Persephone: The thunderdome is actually why I came with you all. I can't wait to go there!

Persephone and Hephaestus started to chat it up. Terra and Delta turned to each other.

Terra: Delta...When you had the chance to kill me, I could see it in your eyes. You wanted to. Look, I don't want to kill you. I want to get this over with. Then we can go our separate ways.

Delta: I get we're acting all buddy-buddy. But I don't care for that. I would be my mother's predecessor already if it wasn't for you.

Terra: Think about it. Is that really all you want to be? Another in a long line? Just a branch off a tree?

Delta: I'm honoring her by becoming her predecessor. She was hard on me because she wanted me to get better.

Terra: If she wanted you to get better, why were you never rewarded for being better? You were never praised. I think her idea of you improving was a little skewed.

Delta: Let's go to this thunderdome. Don't stand in my way, We are stuck together now.
