If suffering was a shape it would be in the shape of Gio Tocca's childhood. Her mother had her when she was still a teenager and her mother, Gio's granmother wanted nothing to do with them. They had to hustle and steal for food and other necessities, at times she would need to skip school because she had no money sanitary towels or something.
The hardships had turned Danielle Tocca into a hard person, not daring to show too much emotion or even be too attached to anything. It made Gio's growing up even the more harder. The only thing that kept Gio sane was doing crazy adventures that kept her adrenaline pumping, rushing. Even being chased by the police gave her a rush worth looking forward to. Made her feel alive.
Gio's phone rang, waking her up from her afternoon nap, she checked and saw it was Alexander Gergana who was calling. Gio figured she was checking up on her and thus didn't call back immediately. She took a shower and before she dressed up she got a text from Ronda.
Ronda: Ey, babe, meet us at the club in three hours? A bit of a farewell for me from the girls. xoxo
Gio smiled and replied with a heart emoji and an "ohk" sign.
She made her way downstairs and found her grandmother watching TV.
"Where's your mother?" Brenda Moon asked when she saw Gio.
"Well, why don't you call her and ask, she's your child." Gio said.
Brenda breathed in to reign in her anger and looked away. Gio checked her social media accounts and was surprised to see the most trending post online was: Rendell Books and Carol Ben got engaged, with pictures attached. They looked so much in love.
Gio couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the first comment on the post was that of her so-called friend Christine Joseph's.
Chrissie J: Finally! Congratulations, guys, it's been long overdue. You guys love each other so much and look good together, I always knew you belong together. Your love is real. Congratulations once again. Kisses from Chrissie!!!
Ain't this the b*tch that was saying "Rendell loves you" just this morning?! Gio couldn't believe herself. Wow what a friend she is, she deserves an oscar for being the most two-faced person on earth!
"When's your mother gonna come back?" Brenda asked from the side, cutting her off her train of thoughts.
"I don't know" Gio answered absent-mindedly.
"So what are we gonna eat? 'Cause it looks like you ain't prepared to cook?"
"Are you prepared to cook?" Gio asked her back.
"You need to stop talking to me like we are peers, or I will....!!!" Brenda shouted
"Or you'll what? Beat me? Kill me? Just try, let's see if you can even touch a strand of hair on my head!"
"Arg!!! You just so... You stubborn and unruly... you just like your father!" Brenda bellowed, and silence insued.
Gio froze and her face drained of colour. Her father was her sore spot. She never knew him and she never thought of asking her mother cause it looked like she haboured some pains, and besides her mother had always been a mother and a father to her, she didn't wanna hurt her by asking about her absent father.
"She will come back with take-away" Gio said solemnly as she stood up and went to her room, not even waiting for a response from Brenda.
