Lyra thought about how Laura could not remember anything, and realized that they would have to bring her along with them. A poor, injured, young woman should not be left alone in the middle of the forest. There were too many monsters and demons, and if they had the chance, they would kill her.
No. That will not do. They must bring Laura with them.
Lyra said, "how about you travel with us? When you remember everything, then we will help bring you home. But until then, please, travel with us."
Laura nodded. Lyra could not help but smile seeing how obedient she was being. Who didn't like obedient children?
Laura seemed to warm up to Lyra, but she stared warily at Beatrice and Ace.
Lyra noticed the look Laura was giving them, so she laughed. "Don't worry about them. Those two are idiots."
"Hey!" Both Beatrice and Ace exclaimed in unison. Lyra laughed again, and this time Laura laughed with her. Seeing the two of them laughing, Beatrice decided to give up on getting upset. It was better that Laura was warming up to them, anyways, even if she believed they were idiots.
Ace, on the other hand, wanted to act up and get anger, but he saw that Beatrice was letting it go, so he forced himself to let it go as well.
"So." Lyra began, trying to get everyone's attention. "We need to get back early. You said earlier that you need to find a specific herb?"
Beatrice and Ace both straightened up when they heard Lyra bring up their assignment. "Yes."
Lyra smiled. "I'll give you both two hours ten minutes. You both have to find it and return to this cave. Okay? Timer begins now."
Beatrice and Ace both got chills down their spine when Lyra gave them a time limit. They felt an unknown fear and pressure, and did not know why they were feeling that from Lyra.
"Such a short amount of time! How will we complete it so quickly?!" Ace exclaimed anxiously.
But Lyra remained completely unfazed by his questioning. "Two hours nine minutes." She said, not giving his question any attention.
Ace panicked when he heard that one minute was already gone, and that Lyra was actually paying attention to the time. He jumped and ran out of the cave, and Beatrice followed right after him. They both had to find the herb quickly so they could return to the school.
Meanwhile, Lyra started behind with Laura. Laura laughed after Beatrice and Ace left.
"That was so amusing, Lyra." She said, "They listened to you so easily. You're so young, how do you do it? How so you get them to listen to you?"
Lyra smiled. "You show them that you have more skill then they do, and then they feel that they have to listen to you."
"More skill? You? So young?"
Lyra held out her hand, and used a similar magic to the one that Laura was using while unconscious, except she made this one far dimmer so that it would not blind the eyes.
"You can make the light dimmer? I did not know that was possible."
Lyra smiled. "You are not bad at magic yourself, but there is a lot for you to learn."
Laura's guard against Lyra increased. "How do you know about me being able to use complex magic?"
Lyra pointed to the light that was still caused by Laura's magic.
"Oh." She said, dumbfounded. She was beginning to think that she was even more of an idiot than the two outside.
"How far as your magic skill reached?" Lyra asked, getting straight to the point.
"Why should I tell you?" Laura still has no clue who to trust.
"We are going to stay together until you get your memories of home back. So of course it's important for me to know."
Laura sighed. "You're right. I can use complex magic easily, but it still takes a few minutes to do so, unlike your magic that only took less than a full second."
"I see..." Lyra looked at Laura thoughtfully. "Have you invented your own magic yet?"
"Invent my own! Is that even possible?!" Laura was stunned at the idea, but she was not stunned for long. She was instead more interested in learning how to do such a thing.
"Of course it's possible. Magic is what you make it to be. No two magics are exactly the same, even if they are made in the same way by the same person."
"Really? But it always appears the same when I do magic like the light magic?"
Lyra smiled. "I'll teach you when we get back, okay? But don't tell those two idiots outside about this, this is between the two of us. I don't want others to find out about me being able to make complex magic."
"Why not? And why do you trust me?"
"It's a secret. And I trust you because... I believe you can learn it, and I want someone to teach."
