" So mum, what did you want to say to me?" Mo Ning asked after waiting for a few minutes and her mum still hadn't said anything.
" What happened? Did Mr Mo threaten grandma again after discovering she came to see you? "
" No.. No that's not it. What I want to discuss with you, is about you. "
" About me? What about me?" Mo Ning asked all the more confused. What exactly did her mother want to talk to her about? Right now she just felt like she was watching a slow burn movie about her life that kept getting mysterious and full of suspense the more she watched. And it was frustrating.
"OK mum, out with it. What exactly do you want to tell me that has got you fidgety? If you don't want to say it anymore, just let me go home to read my scripts. " Mo Ning said in a threatening tone even though she didn't mean it. But frankly, that was the easiest way to get her talking in no time.
She really was tired of the suspense! Who could blame her? She was virtually dying of curiosity.
" Alright. It's about your father. "
As soon as Mo Xiaye dropped the bomb that has been eating her up like a worm in her stomach, Mo Ning froze in place; she really wasn't expecting that.
It's been so long since she asked anything about her father and if she didn't ask, Mo Xiaye won't say a word about it but she remembered that as a kid, whenever she asked her mother about the identity of her father, she would always find a way to divert the subject and so when she was eight years old and was already beginning to understand some things, she knew that her mother didn't want to say anything to her regarding her father and so from then, she stopped asking and her mum didn't take the initiative to say anything either until today.
But why was that? Did he let her down before and so they went their separate ways? Or did something happen that separated them?
She knew that her mum was disowned by her father when she was pregnant and at that time, she was barely twenty and also a university student so he should be a student at that time as well! Or maybe he learned of the pregnancy and rejected but he came back now to apologize? If it was so, she would gladly send him back to the pit he crawled out from.
But maybe she was just getting ahead of herself. She would wait to hear everything before coming to a conclusion.
" Okay.... What about my father? " Mo Ning asked not with excitement but with caution. Seeing her reaction, Mo Xiaye understood immediately. Her daughter was thinking that there was an ulterior motive!
How could she not know when she single handedly raised her? She was already thinking the worst to protect herself from getting too hurt!
All these years, she Mo Xiaye, has never regretted her decision of going away secretly without telling Zhou Ting but now, she was reevaluating if she had made the right decision.
If she had chosen to tell him, even though he had nothing then, at least he would still have been able to protect their daughter and she would have had a carefree childhood like every other child.
She wouldn't have needed to start learning about various languages and culture or even to play various instruments from the tender age of six. Maybe everything would have been different.
