Chapter 27 - The Truth is Out- Chapter 27

I froze, the container of sand I was holding dropped. The clattering of it dropping against the wooden floor snapped me out of my thoughts. I didn't bother to pick it up.

"What do you mean," I said. I turned up to face her, she was shocked by my sudden change of emotion. She quickly responded.

"You see, Maddie had posted a bunch of photos from the day you guys were spending together, the flower just so happened to be in the background." She said. I glanced at her.

"Why are you telling me this? Are you and Maddie close?" I asked. She shook her head vigorously.

"No that's not. we aren't close, but I just wanted to tell you." She said. I folded my arms, completely forgetting about the container of sand that was emptied on the floor.

"Who did if she didn't? Do you know who?" I asked. She looked at me for a moment.

She nodded.

"Who?!" I asked impatiently. My hands itching my side.

"It was Emily." She said slowly. I recognized the name. And then it hit me.

"The girl who invited Maddie to the birthday party?!?" I asked. She slowly nodded. I didn't respond.

"Are, are you alright?" She asked. I looked up at her.

"Yes, I'm fine. And thank you, for helping

me and telling me about this." I said expressionlessly. She nodded before turning away.

"Also, could you not tell anyone about seeing me here, it would cause a lot of... unnecessary drama," I said. She nodded at me.

"Sure. I'll see you around at school?" She said. I nodded. She turned back to the screen door before pausing.

"I, I hope you guys figure things out." She said, before rushing out of the door. I closed it behind her and pulled the curtains back. I was wondering if it was the pain from the injuries or if I had gotten sand in my eye that were the cause of my tears flowing down my cheeks. I gripped the curtain tighter and rested my head on the soft material.

"Stupid rich kids..." I said aloud, my arms trembling as I tightened my grip on the curtains.

After calming down, I cleaned up my mess and put my clothes into the washer before slowly going upstairs to shower. The soap and water stung my wounds harshly as I washed away the sand from my body. After about fifteen minutes in the shower, I turned the water off before grabbing my towel. I quickly changed into my clothes, I couldn't be bothered to dry my hair. I was too absorbed by what Anne has said. I picked up my phone and when to Maddie's contact, staring at her number. I gulped nervously before pressing the call button.

It rang once, then twice, and then a third. I sighed before lifting my hand to cut the call. On the fourth ring, she answered.

"Somnium?" I heard her say, her voice sounded unsure if I was the one on the other end.

"Can we talk?" I asked. She didn't respond, but I knew she was searching for my voice for some sort of anger.

"Yea.. sure." She said softly. My hang squeezed around my phone.

"Why..... why didn't you tell me the truth?" I asked her carefully. She stayed silent once more.

"I still said horrible things to you.." she finally responded. I could even deny it, I was hurt by her words. A lot.

"Still.." I said. She laughed bitterly through the phone.

"There's nothing else to say Somni, I was completely out of line. Especially after you were so nice to me." She said. I bit my lip, unsure of what to say. She was completely right.

"I'm really sorry Somnium, I don't expect you to forgive me but I just want you to understand how much I regret what I've said and done." She said softly.

"I... I know you are, or else I highly doubt you would have picked up the phone." I paused. "But still, I shouldn't have lied to you, Im sorry for that," I said.

"Why are you sorry? If you didn't want to tell me you didn't have to, I pushed you into doing that." She responded to my apology with another one. I let out a small laugh.

"Are we just going to keep apologizing to each other?" I said. She stopped before letting out a laugh as well.

"I guess not," She said in between her laughs. "But really Somnium, thank you."

"For what?" I asked confused. "I didn't do anything."

"For still being my friend..... Wait, we are still friends, right?" Her voice quickly peeked with fear.

"Yeah, we are," I said, A small, silly smile making its way to my face. She sighed in relief before letting out a laugh.

"Cool, I'll see you at school tomorrow?" She said.

"See you then." I said smiling widely. I waited for her to cut off the phone before putting my phone down as well. I fell back onto my bed, ignoring the bothersome feeling of my wet hair against the back of my neck. I stayed there, grinning for what seemed like an hour before properly getting into bed, and that night, I fell asleep with a bright smile.
