Chapter 31 - Audition

Suddenly, somebody tapped on Tang Li's shoulder softly.

She turned around...

It was a couple.

"Could you please move further in?"

Tang Li replied, "Alright."

She picked up her bag and moved to the seat next to her.

There was something on the seat.

She subconsciously went and picked it up. It was the novel of 'Original Sin'.

Who had left it there?

A small corner of a page of the book was folded.

Tang Li flipped it open.

The girl on the stage was speaking her lines now with good intonation. "I don't understand what you have said. What we have to do now is to hold a proper funeral for my younger sister since she had passed away instead of arguing among ourselves and tearing our family apart!"

Tang Li scanned the content on the novel with the help of the faint light from her phone.

She found the lines that were spoken by the girl on the stage just now.

Tang Li soon realized that they were auditioning for the scene that day.

The girl's subsequent acting proved her point.

The girl was now sitting in front of the vanity table under the spotlight. She was applying makeup on her face while looking at the mirror. "Why can't my stepmother go and discuss properly with my father instead? It's useless arguing with me like that! They better make a decision whether to buy a single spot for my younger sister's tomb or two more spots for her and my dad. It's a family deal and they could even get an eighty percent discount on that."

Apparently, she had prepared herself well before she came for the audition.

She had a high ponytail and her forehead was shown clearly. Moreover, she appeared beautiful and charming. She looked just like the character, 'Ying Xuan'er' in the novel.

However, she did not manage to express the emotions properly when she played out her lines.

Ying Xuan'er was only an eighteen-year-old girl. She appeared beautiful and charming but she was actually a cold and withdrawn person. Her mother had depression and committed suicide by jumping off a building when she was only six years old.

Ying Xuan'er was standing on tiptoe and practicing her basic ballet skills on the ground floor. At that time, she had witnessed her mother's body falling off the building from the French window of the dance studio.

No one knew that the scene had become her worst nightmare since for twelve years.

That was also when she started to hate dancing.

Her father had brought home his lover and her daughter not long after her mother's death.

She was only six years old when she had to endure the great pain of losing her dearest mother and watching her father being lovey-dovey with another woman in front of her. That woman was an intruder for her. As she spent her dark nights alone and helpless, she slowly went down the wrong path.

Hence, the spectators were not disgusted by Ying Xuan'er even though she was a criminal.

They could understand the motives behind her crimes.

Her father had indirectly caused her mother's death and had even treated her harshly after her stepmother and stepsister started to live with them. No ordinary person could endure that kind of pain.

However, Ying Xuan'er still needed to be punished by laws because of her crimes.

But now...

Ying Xuan'er should be filled with joy while facing her stepmother right now as her stepmother had just lost her precious daughter. She should not be holding back her emotions.

At that moment, the judges started to whisper among themselves.

The girl noticed the judges' reactions and she became much more nervous. Her throat became tighter. The female teacher who was acting with her continued to speak to her by using a harsh tone as her stepmother. "Fine! Now, you're all grown up! I'm going to look for your father! I'm going to tell him how you wish for his death!"

Then, the female teacher turned and walked out of the stage.

According to the novel, Ying Xuan'er should be grabbing onto her stepmother. The scene was not over yet.

But, the girl who sat in front of the vanity table did not manage to recover her senses in time. It seemed illogical if she were to go and grab onto her stepmother now. It was incongruent with the scene in the novel.

The female teacher was going down the stage now.

Suddenly, a hand came toward her and grabbed her arm tightly.

It was another girl who was speaking now. "You have just lost your daughter. I can understand what you're feeling right now. But, it seems over the line if you want to cast a bone between Father and me now."

The female teacher tilted her head and saw a greyish blue-haired girl.
