Chereads / The Sparkle of A Lifetime / Chapter 18 - Help!

Chapter 18 - Help!

After walking through the winding corridor, they came upon an old-timey looking mansion where time seemed to have stopped.

Fang Hong, who was leading the way, halted. Turning her head, she yelled, "Be a little more virtuous. Stop looking at things you shouldn't be looking at!"

Yan Yiren obediently kept her mouth shut.

These eyes are mine. I'll look wherever I want to.

"Follow me." After issuing her warning, Fang Hong brought her into the mansion.

Despite its old-fashioned exterior, the mansion interior was surprisingly luxurious.

After passing through the living room, they made their way to the second floor. At the very end of the long corridor was a bedroom from which a woman's voice could be faintly heard.

They stepped closer...

The woman seemed to be crying. Her sobbing was blatantly obvious.

They stepped even closer...

Hehehe. Crash. Hehehe! It turned out that the woman wasn't sobbing but cackling maniacally like a witch, her cackling interrupted by the sound of porcelain being smashed on the floor.

Yan Yiren's heart raced. The person living inside can't be a lunatic, right?

Fang Hong confirmed her suspicions. Once they got to the doorway of the bedroom, Fang Hong stopped dead in her tracks and gave her instructions softly. "Once you're inside, don't ask any questions, and don't say a word. Don't look at what you're not supposed to. Understood?"

"I..." The only thing Yan Yiren wanted to do was get the hell out of this creepy place. Sensing this, Fang Hong chuckled coldly while holding onto her with one hand as she opened the door with the other.

With a shove, Yan Yiren staggered into the room before turning around to catch a glimpse of the smirk on Fang Hong's face.

In an instant, the door slammed shut in her face.

She was still trembling from the pain of her dislocated arm. And now she was getting locked up with a lunatic. Hell no!

Grabbing the door handle with one hand, she gave it a good yank, but with Fang Hong guarding the door on the other side, it was hopeless; it wouldn't budge.

The crazed woman quietened down, asking her softly, "Who are you?"

With her back to the woman, Yan Yiren took a deep breath before turning around. She lowered her gaze, not saying a word, as instructed.

Fang Hong had told her not to say anything. At this juncture, there was nothing else she could but listen.

The woman, pale and frail, was clad in a silk nightgown, her hair a dull and brassy yellow. Staring at Yan Yiren with her head tilted, she seemed to be in a trance.

"Who are you, my pretty?" the woman asked again, slowly approaching her.

Yan Yiren's mouth went dry as her stomach lurched violently and her heart raced. Combined with the throbbing pain in her arm, she felt as if she was being tortured mentally and physically.

The woman ruffled her messy hair, giggling teasingly, "You're here to play with me, aren't you?"

Yan Yiren nodded reluctantly.

"That's great!" The woman couldn't stop herself from tugging Yan Yiren by her arm, pulling her along to play.

To Yan Yiren's misfortune, the arm the woman tugged on was the arm she had dislocated. Immediately, she cried out in pain, "Ouch! Let go!"

The woman promptly let her go. Biting on her fingernails, she mumbled, "This isn't right... You're not here to play with me. You're here to hurt me..."

She couldn't stay here any longer. Yan Yiren turned around, ready to take flight.

Catching sight of Yan Yiren trying to escape, the woman chased her swiftly, tugging and dragging her into the bedroom.

"I'll let you hurt me... I'll let you hurt me... Haha..."

The woman pinned Yan Yiren on the ground, straddling her back. With a pair of scissors in her hand, she pulled chunks of her hair and began cutting and snipping haphazardly.

Yan Yiren turned around, calling for help from anyone outside the door. "Help... Help..."

"You still want to hurt me, don't you?" The crazed woman tossed aside the scissors and dragged Yan Yiren by her feet to the balcony, mumbling to herself, "I'll throw you down, throw you down..."

The woman was deceptively strong. She not only dragged Yan Yiren to the balcony but also pulled her up and was now pushing her off.

More than half her body was hanging off the balcony, meaning she would fall off anytime.

"Help! Help!" she shouted at the top of her lungs.
