The four of us silently stalked thru the woods shifting into out wolf forms as we neared the coast. The mountain let off to a field with long grasses ripping in the breeze that turned into a sandy beach the disappeared into the water. Along the beach we saw the boat the scout mentioned but it was many times larger and much longer than a boat. We watched as a small boat was dropped of the big one and a group rowed to shore to join others already there.
We moved to the edge of the clearing and watched what they were doing to get an idea of how many there were and how spread out their camp was. After a while three near the shore started talking and pointing at the wood line at the opposite end from us. A woman walked out accompanied by three small wolves and dragging deer out into the open. The there that noticed her first ran over and relieved them off their burden while am old gray haired man walked back with her talking. Only able to hear small bits at this distance she told him of her hunt and avoiding a few patrols on her way back.
They stopped near an area where tent were being erected as the wolves accompanying her noticed us and growled in our direction. They looked in our direction eyes going wide as kneeled on one knee and lowered their heads. Confused and curious we slowly made our way out into the open in their direction other people following suit as they saw us.
Eventually we made it to the woman and old man as the slowly looked up at us. "Odin and Cernunnos are with us."
Fang and Aero shifted into humans to speak while the onlookers eyes went wide. "Who are you and what are you doing here."
"We are Nordic descendants that have traveled by ship from the north in search of a patricide promised to us by our gods. We were told to travel here and make it out home. Cernunnos even sent wolves to aid us. I am Cyan daughter of the chief, Anders, and referred to as the wolf guide. What are your people?
"We are what was made from people using humans for their tests." Fang said emotionlessly.
"To us you appear to be godsent creatures. Do you want revenge against those who did this." Cyan tilted her head slightly.
"We will have that one day. Right now there is war raging across the land and we are preparing for when it finds us. Which may be soon. What are your..." Blaze and I snarled while Fang and Aero glared as rage spilled across our connection with the others who went to see the approaching army.
"Go assist them."I slowly spit each word out in a gravely voice. Fang and Aero shifted back to wolf and took off. I turned to Cyan and lowered my head to look at her eye level. "On the other side of the mountains we live with a group of humans, you are welcome to join us, most of them are unfamiliar with fighting a war. You people seem to be warriors. if you want to train them that may keep them from dying uselessly." We turned and headed back in the direction of the castle listening to the conversations that popped up here and there.
"What do you think, Shadow, making her the 'wolf queen'? Her people seemed to be great warriors. They may even survive being changed by the blood easier." Blaze silently voiced his thoughts.
"There is something about her that makes me agree. She would be turned tho. Make her a wolf as well or maybe a mix like us." I agreed. Once we were out of site we took off quickly to our castle the others relaying that they were back except for one of the women who, out of anger, continued to follow them picking them off as they retreated.
The wolves had numerous wounds that were slow to heal. Apparently the enemy army was a religious group that used weapons with silver engravings along the blade. Divert was used as a catalyst to disrupt the magics and potency in our blood. The only thing that can slow us down and make us weaker. Luckily silver is rare and expensive so it is not lightly used in anything but jewellery.
"Assuming they don't know of our weakness and it's just that the use it to adorn their blades then they are still a minor threat. Find out where she is and bring her back..... we don't need to store up more problems." I rumble barely intelligible speaking as a wolf to the women. They gave a slight bow and were gone in an instant.
"There may be a group of people that come from the north, let us know if they show up, do not attack them." Blaze spoke to a group that was next for patrol as they were switching out.
I returned to my tent to rest and polish the set of armor that was created for me even tho I never wear it. I was getting restless as were the others. Stepping out of the tent I looked to the sky as it turned red and purple with the setting sun. I mentally told the wolves to gather at the main gate and have Shane join us I have an idea.
"Have all of our people inside and stay inside the walls once the moon has cleared the trees. Anyone outside after that is free game. We are going hunting tonight and it will begin when you hear the pack howl." I told everyone gathered and with an bewildered look Shane took off quickly to put a curfew in place.
"Why are you looking everyone inside the wall if we're hunting?" A wolf asked while I was distracted looking at the moon.
" I want to truly embrace my inner beast, to feel the freedom that wolves do, to leave the problems of humans behind for a while. Maybe once the war is over and we get our revenge we can take over a few kingdoms or go to the white forest and disappear." I could feel the understanding resonated from the others as the moon cleared the trees. We all looked around at each other and shifted into wolves shaking our fur out as we raised it heads to the sky and let it a long melodious howl.
