Synopsis
-Accepted, Welcome Donis. This is the [Mana Star System].- This book is about our protagonist, Donis Laurent, exploring the magic world of Erazar. Knowing nothing of this world, he'll have to face whatever this second try at life has to throw at him. A world where everyone has a system, knows of magic, and is ruled by the strong. His ability to thrive in this world will only be limited by his drive, and not his aptitude. Born with the rarest blessing, seen only once before in the last few hundred years, Donis will have to face the greed of all the old monsters of Erazar. Hi, this is Nospacess, and it's my first novel. The uploads will be slightly erratic at first as I'm still trying to figure out a writing schedule, but I hope to release a chapter a day, and if things permit, two chapters a day. Each chapter will be 1.5k-2.5k words at least. I would love any and all criticism, and want to make the story grow with the reader. So if you have anything you want to point out, add, or question, I'll read every comment. The new cover is done by "ivanwithvodka" on fiverr! Big thank you for the commission and the timely delivery!

Chapter 1 - 1 Initializing [System]

Small legend to help with what's being said. The system speaks through the use of - -, thoughts are conveyed as '' and normal speech as "".

He woke up to a scalding pain over his entire body with bright lights and muffled voices filling the room. His mind was in disarray and felt like he was being stabbed by hundreds of searing hot knives. He shook his head from right to left but he was finding resistance, as if he was being held.

He soon found his voice and began screaming as the pain was no longer bearable; this was followed by the muffled voices in the room becoming more energetic. Even after opening his eyes he couldn't see well, but there were doctors, or at least what he assumed were doctors, in the room all in a circle surrounding him. There was a woman behind him wearing worn, and bloodied overalls which were dripping wet. In his hazy vision he barely made out a blinding light emanating from the hands of the doctor. Then, blackness.

A few hours later he woke again, but this time in the hands of a woman. He opened his eyes wide, he could just about start making out shapes and colours ever so clearer. 'I'm.. being breastfed? I thought I had..' a pain shot through his mind once more trying to recall what had just happened prior. A memory flashes through his mind; a truck had killed him. Squashed him flat before he even knew what had happened. 'I'm alive,' he thought as the tears formed unrestrained.

As soon as that thought finished, an abrupt message surged up within his mind.

-[System] Initializing, Please Wait a Moment-

He jolted and bit the woman holding him lightly. The woman looked down and solely thought the babe was hungrier than she thought, putting a smile on her tired complexion. She sat up a little, bringing the babe closer to herself while cooing to keep him relaxed. After mentally apologizing to the woman, he couldn't help but question his own sanity. 'What was that voice?! Did it really ask me to wait a moment, but what am I waiting for?!' he proclaimed, his mental strength waning.

-[System] and [User] Analysis Complete, Please Decide on a Name-

As if on queue, the woman holding him spoke: "Donis Laurent, my baby boy. That's your name now sweetness," spoke the woman with an absolute warmth.

-Accepted, Welcome Donis. This is the [Mana Star System]-

Donis was at a loss for words. He no longer remembered his other name, and felt as if this name had always been in place. 'But.. what is this system, how did I get it, where am I?!' screamed Donis within his mind. With a pause that felt far too long, the system finally answered.

-The [System] had Heard the Echoes of Your Soul. The [System] Took Authority and Pulled Your Soul Into This Realm. Your Mind Must Rest. Putting [User] In Forced Hibernation Mode.-

'No wait, I have many more q-' protested Donis. His mind went blank, and the new born babe had fallen asleep.

The mother feeling better about the babe sleeping covered herself up and called the doctor. "Joahna, is he healthy, will he be fine?" said the mother. "Of course he will, the birth went without a problem, what is worrying you Morissa?" said Joahna. "I don't know. I definitely.. felt something. I might be exhausted and grasping at straws, but he doesn't feel normal. I've had kids.. his birth was different, I can tell," said Morissa. The doctor paced around the room, placing his hand on the worn wooden stool situated beside the bed and gently setting himself down. He stroked his greying beard slowly, not looking at Morissa and taking his time before answering. His eyes dulled, going back to the birth that had happened a few hours ago.

"He was dead for a moment, there was no life force, not even my Life Sense could detect him. But.. but he came back, with no help from me. He's a miracle," said Joahna, with a long exasperated sigh. He knew he was no miracle worker, he was just a doctor in small town, he couldn't perform those feats. Morissa began silently weeping, quickly trying to wipe the tears away. Noticing this the doctor placed his hand upon her shoulder, pushing away her matted hair. "It's okay Joahna, I knew something was wrong, but I'm so happy.. my boy is alive, and that's all that matters," Morissa wept.

A smile grew on Joahnas face, "then I'm happy to have been here to see your miracle. Rest, please, your body must be exhausted. I'll get one of the nurses to bring you water and bathe you when you wake. Congratulations, once Korrin gets here, I'm sure he'll be waiting to see his wife full of energy!" said Joahna, as he held his hands against the aged door-frame, smiling ear to ear. "Thank you," Morissa said, with an ever growing tired smile. Exiting the room, he closed the door gently behind him.

The birthing had been arduous, it took twelve hours. Even with Joahnas experience as a doctor, and all of his healing magic, it was one of the most difficult things he had ever accomplished. As he went to the staff room, he took a glass of water and went to the next room which needed another doctor to help them with a separate birthing. He had no time to think about such things, as there were three women in labour that day.

Donis had woken a while after the doctor left, his body wrapped up tightly in a gray cloth. He struggled a little but after realising he was quite literally tied up, and now a baby, he gave up. His mind slowly caught fire with what had happened. It was all too sudden. Thank god he was a baby, he could cry any time the existential dread was too much and everyone would think it were the tantrums of a babe.

-[User] has Recuperated Enough Mental Fortitude to Continue the Introduction-

Donis's mind became still this time, waiting for this 'thing' to continue speaking. He wasn't sure if he was insane, or if he was under some sort of advanced intensive care from his previous world and he was just hearing the machines trying to save his life.

-Hearing the Echoes of Your Soul, the [System] Gave you Another Chance at Life on the Planet Erazar. The [System] has Integrated you With the Mana Star [System Core] so you can use The [System] to Your Preferences. The [System] is Here to Guide you, and for Being put Into Forced Hibernation, The [System] Will Answer any one Question the [User] may Have.-

'Yup, I'm definitely dead.' Donis didn't know if he should speak now or think it, but seeing as how he's a baby, he wasn't confident in his abilities to use his brand new vocal chords. So he hoped the [System] could hear his thoughts or this would all be in vain.

'Is this all real?' That was the only question on his mind.

-Yes. The [System] can be Used However the [User] Wishes. The [System] has Scanned Your Memories and has Derived a UI the [User] is Already Familiar With.-

Suddenly Donis's eyes began filling with information and boxes with names on them in a language he didn't understand. Over time the boxes had stopped filling his vision but were slowly changing from symbols that he couldn't comprehend, to those of Latin origin from his world. Eventually every status box and statistic became organized just as if it was his favourite game back on Earth, even being written in English.

Donis was astonished. He was not only alive, but also on another world, in a different universe possibly, where there was a system that resembled games from his previous life. This is too good, it's as if he was reincarnated like in one of those novels he read. Unlike those novels, Donis was a gardener in his previous life, and not some super genius hell-bent on dominating the world. After a brief pause he thought, 'Wait, what is a gardener?'

-The [System] Recognises That Your Memories are Fragmented. The [System] Currently Cannot Access the Function to Completely Restore it. That Requires [System Upgrade]. You Will Have Innate Knowledge of Certain Things From Your Past Life, but Until you Fully Restore Your Memory, the Skills Gained From That Life Will not be Distributed to you now.-

The system spoke once more, and Donis only now taking note that it had a slightly effeminate voice. The content of what it said only shocked him more. 'My memory is fragmented, and I can only regain it if I upgrade you? Well.. then... how do I upgrade you?' thought Donis, ignoring the skill distribution bit.

-The [System] Utilizes System Points or (SP) as it will be abbreviated from now on.-

Donis notices that at the right corner of his vision, a new small box appeared with the words [(SP) = 0]

-(SP) can be Gained via System Quests, or by Achieving Titles, Hidden Objectives, Life Goals, and Various Other Methods. (SP) can be Exchanged for Upgrades or Various Other Things.-

Donis mentally sighed. He was thankful that to gain these points there were many different ways. 'How many points do I need to upgrade you?' Donis thought.

-1,000-

His demeanour lightened up a little. One thousand didn't sound too bad, but he had zero at the moment. So while it didn't sound the worst, he had absolutely no reference point.

-The [User] Still has to Finish the Tutorial, Continue? Y/N-

'Uhh.. yes?' thought Donis. The Yes button highlighted and then disappeared.

-The [User] has Been Given 4 Different Status Windows. [[User] Status], [[User] Skills/Abilities], [[User] Quests], [System Shop]. Does the [User] Need an Explanation on any of These?-

Donis thought to himself, 'Well, if they're like my worlds game windows, then they should be relatively simple to understand. The only one I don't really understand is the [System Shop]. Can you explain that in a bit more detail?'

-The [System Shop] is the Status Window in Which all of the Available Skills, Abilities, Traits, Upgrades, Spells, and Unique Items are Held That are Known Within the [System]. If the [User] Discovers Something That Isn't Within the Systems Point Shop, the [User] Will be Rewarded.-

His baby eyes shot open at this explanation. His mind was racing with all of this new information. Did it mean that this entire world was full of magic monsters, or even people that would fit the term of monster. What sort of world did he get transferred to, he really had no idea. The [System] did not wait for Donis to finish processing everything, it continued:

-This World is Influenced by Magic, and Mana. Every Being can use Magic, as Everything in Existence is Influenced by the Mana Star. Using Your Memories, These Beings Would be Called Monsters. Animals and Humanoids Alike.-

There was almost too much information there for Donis. His Mind struggling to keep up with this effeminate voice that tonelessly unloaded the tutorial, if it can be called a tutorial. Yet again, without waiting for Donis, it continues.

-This Concludes the Tutorial. [User] Has Been Awarded Random Gifts by the [System], to Help you With Your Survival.-

A slew of notifications popped up on the left of his vision.

-[Hated by Death]-

-[Loved by Creativity]-

-[Inspect]-

-[Internal Storage]-

-[100 (SP)]-

-[Title: Beginner]-

As these notifications filled his peripheral vision, his new mother began stirring. She called out for something, but Donis couldn't understand her. He also didn't have the brain power to comprehend anything outside of himself right now. His still developing mind was having a tough time processing everything when another [System] notification appeared.

-Developing Mind in Distress, Putting [User] in Hibernation mode.-

With that, Donis no longer had to worry for a while. His adventure will begin tomorrow.
