"Don It's great to see you." said the king with a warm smile. Erickmon Wiseric Naverok, the current king of Naverok; though he was smiling, looked somewhat tired. His short light blue hair was slightly disheveled; probably from combing his hands through it so many times, and his grey eyes had hints of a dark circle around them. The last time I saw this man he had a baby face even though he was 32, now he fit that 32 year old description too perfectly. what the hell was going on? My doubts about this were getting swept away by the string of events I was encountering in the capital. there were way too many guards about, there were surprise checks, and certain magical items were suddenly forbidden. the soldiers at the gate didn't even give the nobles a break, the list went on.
"Eric what is going on?" I said once we sat down. the room we were currently in had magic barriers in place. sound would not escape, nor could anyone eavesdrop on the conversation; if any magic was used we would be alerted immediately.
"There is a demon lord in Naverok; So far most of the signs have shown themselves. We have no idea from where this thing will strike and so we have called you among many others here to prepare for a crusade." His eyes looked weary but determined.
"I have called together my most trusted and the council themselves of course; for the best possible way to proceed with this matter." He was talking so fast I had no time to process and respond to what he was saying. a demon lord of all things; but how? there would have been many more signs long before now: massacres, monster rampages, ominous messages from the gods even; what changed?
"That can't be..." I said in shock. Eric rose with an air of grace, he nodded to me as if acknowledging what I said; then gestured toward the door.
"It seems you need time to process all of this. however the most I can give you is tonight. tomorrow the advisory will begin. In all my years I'd never thought I'd have to put my wits against a demon lord. It was shocking for me as well. " He said it with a slight laugh as if he still didn't believe it. I nodded and excused myself.
Later that night I layed in my bed pondering. A demon lord; an existence even the gods feared. There were few existences in this world that could put the gods on edge: God Eaters, Demon lords, and World Eaters though the last one has never been seen or confirmed. The last God eater was brought down by a demi-god; and currently there were 2 other demon lords in existence. The gods didn't seem to care so neither did we. If the gods didn't send a message of discontent should we really attack; furthermore can I do this? I have fought against calamities yes but I have never fought something that can stand on equal footing against a god; Nor did I ever want to.
ha..hahah
This was my luck wasn't it? I've always felt I was being fooled and puppeteered into a role I didn't want. I encountered beast and beings by chance no matter what I did, Broke apart unseen organizations no matter where I went be it a city or a field in the middle of nowhere. Honestly I'm scared and I always have been; I don't want to die and I didn't want any of this. The fame, the questionable power, the sea of women and yet it feels like I don't have a choice. This pressure to do this or that is killing me! and yet I can feel their all seeing eyes on me as if I don't have a choice. How long can I put up this front? I thought desperately.
I didn't know when but I had started to cry, I felt the confident smile on my face as I thought about the destiny in front of me shake. I had to fight a demon lord, A demon lord!
On an Island far far away...
"When is he coming back?" Said the pink haired girl, she puffed out her cheeks and looked at the busy humans as they built house after house; and the monsters scattered throughout the Island looking for food and resources. she had begun to lose interest in everything long ago and now found it hard to sit still.
"Amos~ come back already" At that moment a shadow blocked out the sun and she looked up.
"Even when I'm not here you can't help but to complain.'' The tall dark haired man wore a cocky smile as he looked down at the petite girl. Jara felt her heart begin to palpitate rapidly; and she reached up to touch his finely clothed chest absentmindedly.
However...
*cough cough* The sound of someone coughing broke the tension and the moment passed. The dark haired man Amos walked away leaving Jara to stare coldly at the grinning Gail; who had been standing behind him this whole time.
"The others are working hard, you know. You should too." Their fiery gazes clashed.
Jara's mouth twisted into a disgusted grin. she shifted her weight and got into Gail's face.
"You think you're hot shit now that you're a monster huh?" her mocking expression elicited a look of scorn from Gail but not a word was said.
Heh! her smile became mocking before she continued.
"Don't fool yourself you useless Imp!" Jara raised her fist to strike only to have her wrist caught by a very unhappy Amos. she looked up in disbelief; while Gail looked unsurprised and all too pleased.
"Jara, I did warn you not to touch my things; didn't I? " His voice was cold enough to freeze a river. Jara began to feel a great pressure build upon her until she could no longer breathe, and a sharp pain in her wrist caused her mouth to gape wordlessly. Gail felt nothing as she watched and The sudden absence of the feeling of compassion was more frightening than the scene in front of her.
"If you attempt to break my toys again. I'll break more than your wrist next time. '' Amos let go of her and Jara slumped to the ground in shock. She looked as if her whole world was turned upside down. she began to whine;
"Why?!" she cried out in tears. her confusion caused Amos to look on with a tired expression. If he wasn't careful he'd only egg her on he thought.
"I owe your family a debt, however I won't keep you if you continue to hinder me like this." it was said in a polite way but Jara knew better; the real mind and meaning behind those words. He would kill her, he had every reason to kill her if she became a problem, if her assets weren't used for him they could very well be used against him. He knew it, she knew it and he knew her just like she knew him. An eccentric laugh began to creep out of her mouth. she would do it too, she would if ever they become enemies do everything in her power to kill him, however...
"Amos~" She coed, holding her wrist as if she was a hurt puppy. She stood up and Amos took a step back, he could kill her at any time but somehow the way her mind worked still unsettled him a bit. she eyed him with a sweet expression on her face.
"I could never... YOU are all I have left..." she became teary eyed and fell forward causing him to catch her, He left out a tired sigh.
"You are so dramatic.." Amos closed his eyes as he spoke so he didn't see it, the brief expression of hurt and seriousness that flitted across Jara's face.
