Chapter 50 - Over the hills

Deep inside the Blavire Mountains on a steep skyward slope a small group searches parolasly for a way to continue forward.

"This doesn't make any sense. What the hell are we even searching up here for?!" Shouted Sir Stan in anger. The temperature seemed to be dropping by the minute with no progress and His patience was starting to wear thin. He shook violently in his furred armor that seem to do little against the elements at such a high altitude.

"Just let me handle it. There is definitely magic at work here." A young Sorcerer began to chant. Words in a language neither the knight sir Stan or his fellow soldiers knew circled them before condensing into a small orb of warm light.

"Show us the way." With that the Orb began to fly in circles first ahead of them and then going in the completely opposite direction.

"Is it broken?" Asked the Knight dumbly. The others put on doubtful expressions as well. However, the Young Sorcerer ignored them and began to follow the orb. Back down the mountain slope the wind continuously beat against their backs threatening to knock them over. The orb took a sharp right and came to a hult at a crack in the side of the mountain.

"I knew it; the damn spell didn't work." Said one soldier among the 4 others. They wore bitter expressions and warmed their hands.

"No, this is it." said the Young Sorcerer as he put his hand on the wall. He could feel the movement of mana. It was a barrier but not one he was familiar with; He had never seen one so complex. To change its appearance without being made of the substance itself. A wall of rocks was different from a barrier that looked like rocks. This was made completely of mana; while maintaining the magical properties of a barrier and taking on the appearance of rocks. Just thinking about undoing it was giving the Young Sorcerer a headache. However there was a chance to break it with enough force.

"There is a spell in place here. It's strange; a barrier that takes a form instead of just using an illusion." He looked as bewildered as the others looked confused. He sighed before asking.

"Can one of you break it?" They all looked at him with shocked eyes. The only one that would be powerful enough would be Sir stan; however that wasn't the problem.

"You want us to break a wall; while just barely standing on the side of this steep mountain?" A soldier let out a cynical laugh. Of course it sounded like a horrific idea; If things went wrong they could be knocked off by loose rocks at best and buried alive at worst.

"Well it's that or I can fly 2 of us up at a time; of course it would be between 30 minutes to an hour intervals depending on how high. I'd also have to be one of the 2. There is also the issue flying type monsters." Everyone could only look at each other. they'd have to risk getting buried alive or possibly fighting monsters.

"I suppose we should go with the safer choice." Said The knight looking at the soldiers inquiringly; They nodded in agreement. The sorcerer let out a tired sigh suddenly feeling overworked. Each agreed to wait in place for the rest to come before further investigation. After counting all the remaining mana potions they began the ascent to the top of the mountains.

"How funny." Said Amos as he watched the men struggle to fend off the chill of the mountain air. Jara swayed cheerfully at Amos's pleased expression. She watched him with admiration while he sat pondering on his wooden throne.

"It has been a while since I last rampaged... Jara, what do you think? Should I massacre them?" Jara pouted at his question; then with folded arms and a tilt of the head said.

"How unlike you. Usually you'd jump into action at the appearance of new toys." Amos paused in place; It had never occurred to him that he had changed. Since when did this begin? his mind went blank. He felt suddenly unsettled at his lack of awareness and his heart lightly raced.

"Amos?'' Noticing his strange condition, Jara poked his shoulder. Amos blinked as if coming back to his senses. He didn't like the idea of not having control of his body.

"Since when Have I changed Jara?" It came out as a growl and Jara felt a sudden pressure. she wasn't sure if she should run or answer his question. She swallowed her saliva; letting out a nervous giggle she replied.

"Um, let's see. since that day I found you cry- I mean lamenting over the spat you had with your wife." Jara didn't want to say that woman's name let alone acknowledge her as his wife but she had little choice at the moment. To her there was no more frightening existence than the man before her.

"Is that so...?" The cause of his change; he had little doubt It was due to Eva. He let out a sigh and tossed the orb at Gail who caught it. He wanted nothing more to do with the subject.

"Do whatever you want with them, Jara." He Said it dismissively and looked out the small window of the marbled manciple building with a distant gaze. Jara looked at Gail who Grinned knowingly; and watched as Jara's expression soured. With a huff Jara left to deal with the mountain invaders. Fine if Amos wanted to act like an old man she would do as she pleased too.

"Time to go collect some new toys." She said before teleporting away in a rose colored mist.
