Chapter 102 - I Don't Know Them

Around two weeks before the scheduled family trip, Ginny woke up to an alarming phone call in the middle of the night. At first, she folded her pillow to cover up her ears to wait for the ringing to go away. At this time, rarely anyone would call her, so she assumed it to be a scammer calling.

Then, the annoying sound rung repeatedly again! Frustrated by the disturbance, she pulled her blanket over her head and hurled up in bed; not letting a random call break her sweet dreams. Once her room returned to its peace and quiet, she peeked her messy bedhead back out to breathe some fresh air.

Ring Ring

"Arghh!!! This better be good! Who the heck calls at three in the damn morning? This person doesn't want to live anymore!!!" She jolted up in bed and glared at the bright phone screen with a private caller ID on it. Pursing her lips outwards, she scratched the back of her head from frustration and grumpily picked up the call.

"Hello? Who is this?" It was obvious she was not pleased with getting her dreams disrupted.

"Sorry to disturb you this early in the morning. This is the police calling from the 60th precinct. Is this Ginny I am speaking with?" He sounded polite, yet strict at the same time.

Her heart pounded and the drowsiness from before had been shaken off. "Yes. May I ask why you are calling?" There are two types of phone calls that nobody would ever want to receive in the middle of the night: the hospital and police. She quickly hopped out of bed and took her keys in case there were any emergencies related to anyone she knew.

Her actions paused when she heard the police officer's following words. "Yes. Did you live in 56 Wanton Street, apartment number 9 before?"

"Yes, I have. What's wrong?" She clearly remembered paying rent every month, so it shouldn't be related to any debt issues. Multiple questions floated in her head as she failed to figure out what this call was about. Plus, it's been months since she moved already. She was also in good relations with the home owner, so there wouldn't be a reason why the police officer would be calling about the apartment.

"We have received a report about two intruders trying to break into the apartment about two hours ago. When we arrived at the location, the two suspected burglars were arrested. According to our investigation, they were looking for you, but didn't know you have moved."

Before the police officer needed to say who those two people were, Ginny could already guess their identities. Only her aunt and cousin would do something so sneaky and stupid at night. This has happened before, but she didn't inform public safety that time.

With a smirk on her face, she plopped herself back to bed and was ready to go back to sleep. The officer continued, "Can you confirm these names for me? Do you have an aunt named Cassandra Ng and a cousin named Ashley Ng?"

Ginny smiled, "Sorry, officer. I do not have any relatives who are alive. My parents have passed away, and I do not recall having any family. So, I don't know them. I also don't know how they got my name and previous address. When I was living at my old address, I've received random threats and that's why I moved."

"Besides, officer. What kind of good citizen would try barging into a relative's apartment when they could just ring the doorbell or give them a call? I suspect these two strangers to have hidden motives. I can't provide any assistance at this time."

The officer was quiet for a moment before gathering himself together. "Sorry for the disturbance. We will continue investigating this matter. No wonder those two failed to provide us your number. Once again, I apologize for interrupting you. Thank you for your patience. Good bye."

Wiggling her fingers in the air, she said, "Bye."

Sighing to herself, she whispered, "Did you two think I would save you after years of harassment? If only you two would have some brains and did not attempt to pry open someone's door in the middle of nowhere. Even if I confirm your identities, the resident at the apartment may not drop the charges. This is a lesson for you mother and daughter pair. None of my business."

Rolling the blanket over her body, she cuddled her body pillow to sleep. When morning came, news of Ashley and Cassandra was exposed on the community news. Since she used to live in that area, she was a member of the community group chat where people shared sales and updates about the neighborhood.

While brushing her teeth, she clicked into the group chat and saw her aunt and cousin's face caught in the photos. Ginny's name was mentioned and tagged by concerned neighbors as they've heard the commotion these two had caused for Ginny. Seeing the many messages asking about her condition, a small smile spread on her face.

She texted back, "I'm fine everyone! These two stalkers are finally arrested. I'm relieved that they didn't find my new address. Thank you for your concerns!"

After that, she placed her phone down and freshened up. Once done, she chose her outfit for the day and headed out to meet up with Lily. After a long consideration, Lily and Lin Que's parents have decided to go to Paris for the family vacation. Ever since the decision has been made, the youngsters in the group chat were spammed with reminders of what they needed to prepare for the trip.

Helpless against the elder's concern, Lily, Ginny, Alan and Lin Que decided to have a double date while shopping for travelling necessities. The four of them agreed to meet up at a bubble tea spot in the mall around 12. By the time Ginny got there, Lily was already waiting with earphones plugged in her ears.

From afar, she could tell how energetic Lily looked.

"Lily!" Ginny skipped cheerfully over to her side with arms spread out for a hug. With a wide smile, Lily welcomed her for a tight hug. It's been a while since they've gone out together like this. Today, it was a double date!
