Chapter 12 - Mission 10: Early Mornings Are Like That

Morning came, the day of the training, and Vin has not felt this uneasy waking up his whole life. The moment his eyes opened, memories from what Prim told him last night came flooding in. Dinner last night, Prim had elaborated to him how she often catches herself in a daze then all of a sudden her body freezes and she starts hearing voices. And when she wakes up, she's in a different place. However, what amazes her is that she is always taken to a similar time period. It would be different locations but the feel of the environment feels it's the same era. It has been clear that Prim is not a clairvoyant, but he is suspecting it is either she might have developed clairvoyance in a short amount of time considering the vast possibilities with her gift, or someone with such powers is trying to intercept with her consciousness.

Vin checks his phone for the time and it was already six in the morning. The sun was shining brightly outside and no wonder he's been hearing birds chirping. He decides to sit up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Just when he was about to hop down from the top bunk, he hears soft snores from below. Vin instinctively hangs himself like a bat from his bed railing, gawking at the sleeping Prim who had her old ear pods on while her huge headphones sleep at the corner of her bed. The girl was wearing cute pajamas, an enlarged T-shirt that had bunny patterns and puffed down shorts. She was facing the wall at first when suddenly she turns over to where Vin was hanging from and Vin panicked the moment her face was literally a palm away from his. He almost choked from the shock but Prim opened her eyes, blurry from sleep, but as soon as her sight adjusted, she did not like what she saw.

"What are you doing?" Prim's eyes snapped in anger, seeing Vin's face first thing in the morning.

Vin jumped off from his hanging position landing on two feet, "Okay, in my defense I didn't mean to stare at you sleep."

Prim slowly sat up, fists curled into a ball, ready to punch, "Was it fun staring at me sleep, Mr. China Boy?" she said emphasizing on how he's dressed traditionally in his sleep, gritting in anger.

"I absolutely did not have any intention of watching you sleep. It's just that," his face turned to disgust, "I thought a bear was sleeping underneath me with the loud snoring."

A fuse snapped in Prim's head, "You've really done it now...DIE!" she launched for an attack, feet first aiming for a kick. Vin instinctively dodged the attack, jumping from where he stood to the door.

"I am not falling for that trick again, Flower. You may have bruised me yesterday, but that's the last of your barbaric punches!" he yelled as he kept on dodging the continuous attacks of Prim that kept missing. They run around in circles in the small bedroom, jumping and leaping.

"Keep still you stupid raccoon!!" this was not going so well for her.

Prim knew she had to end it soon, attacking on an empty stomach is not helping, especially when she still has a lot on her mind. "I beg of you, Chang," she says softly, catching Vin off-guard. The second she noticed Vin was distracted, she aimed for a low kick, successfully toppling the boy, both of them landing on the hardwood floor with her on top. Vin anticipated a punch which made him close his eyes bracing for the impact, but instead of a smack, Prim flicked his forehead so hard that it turned red. "You're still a kid after all." she said as she stood up, leaving him on the floor. But before she could walk away, Vin sneaks an attack pulling her by the ankle, ass first on the floor. Prim winced from the writhing pain.

"You may have outstanding strength as an advantage," he said pulling himself up, "But I have the brains to counter it." staring her down. "Oh and don't worry," Vin added as he was about to go out of the door, "You have no sex appeal at all."

He heard a thump on the door the moment he left. Prim must have thrown something. He could hear her very screams the instance he had already stepped out. Thankfully, despite the cabin being small for him, the pantry and fridge were packed with the essentials. Vin mindlessly takes the sliced bread on the keeper above the sink. He takes two slices, sliding them in the toaster and pulling the lever down. He prepares two mugs at the dining, expecting that despite her anger, hunger comes first.

"If you're not eating, I'll hog all the food." he yells from the kitchen, making sure the one at the bedroom hears.

Vin sees the girl come out of the bedroom, still grumpy, but this time he feels that her pissed look isn't about what happened, but it was just her hunger acting up. She rubs the sleep off her eyes with soft moans.

"What's wrong with you now?" he asks, pulling out the carton of milk from the bottom rack of the fridge.

She responds by grabbing the pink mug prepared on the table.

"Are you still mad that I snuck up on you?"

The boy's remark did not make her less upset. She glared at Vin, "Honestly, I don't have the least care of how you attacked me and pulled me to the floor. What pisses me off is how you stared at me in my sleep and...." she mumbles

"Sorry, I couldn't quite get the last part." he pretentiously lends her his ear.

Prim frustratingly screams, pulling the first solid thing she could from the kitchen—a frying pan. Vin cautiously evades her every swing, keeping a fair amount of distance before she could even close in.

"Are you crazy, woman?!" he yells avoiding her swings, a single hit could potentially knock him out added with Prim's barbaric strength, "Stop it!"

"I.." swing, "Will..." swing, "Not.." swing, "Stop..." swing, "Until.." swing, "You tell me..." swing, "How..." swing, "You..." swing, "RAAAH!! Stay still!!!!!"

Vin catches the frying pan with his two hands, throbbing from the intense friction and strength, "What the hell? At least finish your sentence!"

Just when the heat was on, Prim itching for payback, a sparrow comes in from the open window, landing on the table, bobbing its head staring at them.

"What's that?" Prim said, her body shaking from forcing the attack as they kept their position.

"I-It's a sparrow.." Vin's voice quivers as he strongly keeps his defense from the frying pan.

"I knew you kids will end up like this again."

Their eyes wanted to jump out of their heads, as they both screamed: "IT TALKS!"

"It's me!" yelled the sparrow.

"It's you?" Prim repeats.

"Idiot, listen to the voice, it's Sig." Vin explains in monotone.

Prim looses her attack, forgetting about Vin, walking towards the distinct talking bird. She pokes the bird's stomach, "How did you shrink yourself into this Professor?" she said.

"I did not shrink. I've used my interception ability to become one with my familiar. This is my sparrow, Genevieve."

"Hi, Genevieve!" Prim happily greeted.

Vin on the background was just staring at her and wondered how often Prim's mood swings. Although he did not mind her mood being abnormal, what bothers him the most is her amazon strength.

"Anyway," the sparrow brushed off her poking, "I have important news for you two."

Vins pulls a chair tucked from the table and sits down quietly beside the standing Prim. Sig in sparrow form cleared his throat, eagerly looking at them through his bead bird eyes.

"We've discussed yesterday that today will be your first day of training, however, there will be a change of plans."

Prim and Vin looked at each other.

"I received orders from command center late last night that your first mission will be this midnight."

Prim's eyes glimmered in excitement, "Isn't that great?!" she cheered, "Finally! Some action!"

"You do know these missions are really top-ranked right?" Vin broke her celebration.

"And do you know that you're no fun to talk to?" Prim said in response.

"No, Vin is correct. This mission is top-ranked and both of you must be equipped with at least the basic of basics to be able to pull through." the bird remarked, "Thus, I am requiring you both to attend our crash course training after breakfast."

"Crash course, huh," Vin mumbled. "So you're just gonna jam it all on us together? Isn't that quite inconvenient for you, sir? I mean, Flower here is enough of a handful already."

The bird shook its head, "I have analyzed both of your strengths already and have prepared two different sets."

"Nice! I can't wait to test out my combat skills!" Prim fist-bumped on air.

"That will not be necessary, Prim." Sig replied, "For today, both of you will be assigned to a training regime that will speed up the learning process of your weaknesses."

"Oh no.." Vin's face turned grim.

"Vin, as you know your combat skills are much lower than of Primrose's. You need to at least throw a punch or two rather than simply be on defense."

Vin sighed, "Alright. If that's going to help." his face glum.

"And as for you Prim," the bird glanced to the girl, "You're going to practice your concentration and control all day."

Prim smiled nervously, "Haha...I kind of expected this already after what happened with Rem and Josh. Alright, bring it on, I'll train with Rem so he could teach me the ways!"

"Oh no, that will not suffice." Sig replied.

"What?" the two of them responded under their breaths.

"Vincent will be training with Rem as he is most adept to combat. While you, Primrose will have to train with me."

Prim and Vin stared at each other, as they both understood what the situation meant for them. Flower and Vase shall now face their weak points while dealing with the people they were avoiding to have the most interaction with.
