Chapter 28 - Graypaw On The Chopping Block

"Why is he staring at Graypaw?" asked Frostfur. "Was it someone among us? Was it Graypaw?" growled Longtail. "Did Graypaw have something to do with this?" hissed Dustpaw. Despite all the comments, Ravenclaw's gaze didn't leave Graypaw's eyes for a second. "Why is he staring at you like that, Graypaw?" asked Starpaw as she whispered in Graypaw's ear. "U-Uh, I-I don't know!" replied Graypaw. "Ahm. We still have a while before sunset. We must concentrate on rebuilding our camp. Meanwhile, if you suspect anything or anyone tell me, be assured. Anything you say will be kept ing confidence." Ravenclaw ordered as he looked at Firestar. Firestar looked at him with a serious gaze. "Meeting dismissed." he growled with the tone pointed to no one. The cats started to fade away as they were starting to rebuild the camp. "Graypaw? Where did he go?" asked Starpaw as she was standing next to Bluepaw. "I think he ran with Whitestorm and Longtail to collect twigs so they could patch up holes in the border wall. He clearly doesn't want to talk." replied Bluepaw with a hint of anger. "That was odd, what Ravenclaw said during the meeting. Also the way he kept on staring at Graypaw, it's like he was hinting that his own apprentice had told ShadowClan about it." replied Starpaw with hatred in her voice. "We better go and help him. Don't you think?" Bluepaw recommended. "Uh, you go. I'll be there in a moment, I want to check on Goldendust and see if she's okay after the fight with Blackfoot." meowed Starpaw. "Alright see you later, Starpaw." said Bluepaw as she went to follow Graypaw. Starpaw went up to Goldendust's nest to check on her. "Starpaw, I'm glad you've come." meowed Goldendust. "I wanted to check that you were alright." replied Starpaw. "Old habits stay longer than old scents, they say." Goldendust stated as she licked her fur. "I suppose so. Anyways, how are you feeling Goldendust?" asked Starpaw. "This old leg here keeps playing up again, but I'll be fine." Goldeendust growled. "How did you manage to fight Blackfoot off?" asked Starpaw as she couldn't believe the Goldendust with that many wounds could actually chase off Blackfoot who had no wounds at the time. "Oh, Blackfoot is strong, but he is not a clever fighter. Fighting you was more of a challage." hissed Goldendust. "Really?!?" meowed Starpaw, she was thankful of the compliment Goldendust gave her. "I've known him since he was a kit. He hasn't changed, a bully, but no changes." replied Goldendust with a sigh. "I'm not surprised Firestar asked you to join the clan, you certainly showed your loyalty last night!" meowed Starpaw cheerfully. Starpaw wanted to bring on a more cheerful topic to the conversation. "I guess. I truely loyal cat would have fought at the side of the clan that raised her." meowed Goldendust who started to get sad. "Well then, you would see me fighting for my Twolegs!" yowled Starpaw to cheer Goldendust up. "Well said youngster, well said. However, you have always been a thinker from what I can tell!" replied Goldendust with a smirk on her face. "Do you miss ShadowClan?" asked Starpaw as she had her own reasons. "-sighs- I miss the old ShadowClan, the way it used to be." replied Goldendust. "Before Brokenstar took over?" Starpaw asked boldly. "Yes, before he took over. He just changed the clan. Hahahaha! He always knew how to give a good speech, he could make you believe a mouse was a rabbit if he really wanted to. Prehaps, that is why I was flying to his fault." replied Goldendust. "I guess you can't guess who the new ShadowClan medicine cat is?" yowled Starpaw. "Not Runningnose??" yowled Goldendust. "Yup!" joked Starpaw. "Hahaha! But he can't even cure his own cold!" laughed Goldendust. "I know right! That's what Bluepaw said!" meowed Starpaw. "-sigh- I'll leave you to rest now. Call me if you need anything else today." Before Starpaw could leave, Goldedust stopped her. "Wait, I before you go. I heard you were in a rat fight on your way here. Did they draw blood?" asked Goldendust with concern in her voice. "It's okay, Spottedleaf treated my wounds with marigold." replied Starpaw. "Eh, sometimes Marigold isn't strong enough. Go find a patch of wild garlic to roll for those rat bites. I think there's some not far from the camp entrance. That will draw any posion that the rats may have left. Although, your den mates might not thank me for my advice. Hahaha!" meowed Goldendust. "Well I do. Thanks, Goldendust." purred Starpaw. "Go carefully young one." Goldendust purred back as she curled up in her nest.
