Chapter 12 - I Met My Fire Class Teacher

@031 It's hard for me to find a purpose in life. I've always lived a life of horror. The things I've witnessed, the things I've done, the people I've stood with. It's something that I hope that no one has to go through… @404

I was able to convince myself that Mio was ok after walking to the doorway of the classroom I was at just a few moments ago. However, I couldn't stop myself from letting that memory of Mio in tears, squatted down on the floor with bad cuts and garbage covering her entire body.

Hopefully the authorities will do something about Lex.

I slid open the door to the classroom and walked over to an empty seat, completely ignoring all the turned heads that faced my direction.

Only one head remained unturned. That head belonged to the teacher himself.

"You're late." He said in a low voice.

"I have a pass." I said nonchalantly as I passed the hologram over to him.

"Hmm."

He nodded his head and clicked the little checkbox on the program, recognizing my excused tardy.

"Plug a USB into your desk and study the materials on your ID," the teacher said. Once you're done, take the pre-test to see what you already know."

We get our information from the desks we sit at. Our desks have computers inside of them that store all the data for whatever high school year we're in.

I plugged my USB in and studied the data for the pre-test.

The test itself wasn't hard at first. It asked what mood we had to be in for whatever type of magic we were using to be most effective. How specially crafted weapons can be used to control the direction our magic travels to. And, or course, a non-faction non-clan groups known as Hackers.

Hackers are people who found a way to control their magic without ID's. They use objects known as Igniters to boost their magic to a stronger force. Only a select few of the Rainbow Knights have ever seen a Hacker, but no one has ever been able to capture one.

One Rainbow Knight, however, came across a Hacker who was pretty much dead on the ground after getting involved in a battle between two factions. The Hacker died before the Knight could ask it anything, but what the Knight did find was an Igniter, which were a few blank pieces of paper inside a pouch with a strange symbol engraved on it.

The symbol was of an apple in front of a tree, stitched with black and gold thread.

The questions were about those topics in the beginning, but then they started getting a little strange.

'Where do you see yourself after the war?'

'What kind of career, besides a Knight, would you want to look into?'

'Do you see yourself living single or starting a family after the war?'

What kind of questions are these?

Of course I don't see myself doing anything after the war. I'll be thrown out after it's over anyways, so what's the point in having dreams if your already know your fate?

I just BS's my way through those questions and turned in my assignment. After that, I lay my head down on the desk and fell asleep until the bell rang for our next class.

...

...

*BRRRAAAAANG!!!!*

The bell for the next class sounded and woke me up from my brief sleep. I started to get up, but my teacher held up his hand, signaling to me that I couldn't leave yet.

A minute passed and everyone had already left the classroom. It was just me and the teacher in an empty classroom.

"You know why I had you stay here?" The teacher asked me.

"No." I replied.

He pulled out a hologram that showed my pre-test results.

While you did answer the first half of the test correctly, the second half concerned me a little.

The second half of the test was just about what I wanted my future to be.

I answered 'I'd be dead before that happened' on all of them.

"Do you think that you're not good enough?" The teacher asked me.

"No. I just don't think that it matters. Even if I come out alive through this war, I'll just be cast away from the academy. I'll have no where else to go. And I can't just ask my mother to let me live with her at the Fire Dragon HQ. they would take me in."

The FDHQ (Fire Dragon Headquarters) only took in people who were rank A-SS Rainbow Knights. Even if I met the age requirements to join, that's still two years away (I'd be 19 by the time I'm done with these three years). I'd have no where to stay for that period of time.

"You're so naive." The teacher said.

I tilted my head a little, confused by his sudden insult.

"Did you read the study guide that the teachers gave out to all the freshmen students?"

"No."

I thought I didn't need to.

"You fucking idiot."

He pulled out a copy of the study guide and flipped over to the last page.

"I would've assumed that the lazy ones would've at least read the LAST page. Here."

The hologram I was given was already flipped to the last page, and the sentence I was intended to read was circled.

It read: 'As thanks for your astounding services, all students will receive a compensation allowance that ranges from 180,000$-2.5M$ depending on their efforts in training for the war. They will also receive, depending on their academic results, a special degree for when they want to find a new career.'

...huh.

"I have no clue what you've been through, but you've had to have gone through something if you think that your fate is dying."

"It's none of your business." I said.

Nobody needs to know.

"One more thing before you leave though," the teacher said. "What made you think that we sent students out onto the battlefield."

"..."

I guess I really am an idiot.

"You don't need to worry about you dying for quite a while kid," the teacher said. "At least not until you graduate."

So the academy doesn't send their students to fight in the war. That's...new.
