Ivana got to the hospital. Her face looked all puffy and red when she alighted from the car. She ran her hand down her belly and sighed in frustration. She wasn't so keen on removing the pregnancy but she thought of all the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy. She doesn't even know the father of the child. She even got pregnant in a brothel. How was she going to raise the child? She doesn't even have a place to stay. What would her aunt and her cousin do to her when they find out that she's pregnant. They would drag her out the streets and embarrass her, or worse, they'd beat the baby out of her belly. She thought of her education. She had wanted to hustle and make enough money to enroll in an institution.
She walked towards the building, the normal sickly smell emanating from the hospital filled the air. She cluctched the hem of her shabby gown as she saw a little girl of her age, heavy with pregnancy. She was dragging her feet to meet up with the woman in front of her, who Ivana guessed might have been her mother. It was so obvious that the mother disapproved of the pregnancy with the way she treated her.
She got to the hospital reception and found a nurse hanging around there. After explaining quite a few things to her, the nurse led her towards what seemed like a laboratory. The nurse's face was filled with pity. It was crystal clear that the nurse already believed she was pregnant. This made Ivana's fear increase. The hospital had already kept a good number of nurses by her side. She looked like someone that might collapse of anxiety even before the result would come out. She wanted to take a blood test first. If it came out positive again, then she would have to remove the pregnancy.
A very friendly lab scientist drew her blood while looking at her in a way assuring that all would be okay no matter the result. She was told to wait for 45 minutes or an hour. To Ivana, it was as though she waited for a decade. As she was handed over the test result papers, only two words came from her mouth. "Terminate it". The lab scientist was taken aback by the outburst from such a young girl. If he was to guess her age, she was roughly between the ages of seventeen to nineteen.
"We would need your guardian, parents or spouse to approve of that", he said.
"I'm an orphan." She answered curtly.
"Are you registered under any child care agency? How do you survive"? He asked again.
"I'm not, do I not have the right to say that I don't want this baby? Am I not old enough? Please get this thing out of me!"
"Miss Ivana Gustavo, I'm sorry but I'm not in the position to remove that baby." He said while pointing at her belly.
Ivana went hysterical. He went after the scientist trying to get hold of his collar, but he instinctively went back. Having noticed that there was nothing she could do, she left the hospital. After all there was no way they would help her. She marched out of the the hospital even if it meant going to a quack, she would, as far as she got rid of the thing. When she reached the exit, she saw a familiar silhouette. She was sure she had seen that person elsewhere, but that wasn't her concern now. That person was even with someone that looked like his wife because of the way she was clinging to him, but what was her business anyway?
She flagged down an oncoming taxi and disappeared.
Daphne beamed with joy as she clung close to Limuel. She was sure the body checkup would turn out well. Even if didn't, it was safe and reassuring knowing that the fault wasn't from her. She walked straight to the hospital lab. She didn't deem it necessary to ask for instructions because she had been there before. She was also well acquainted with the hospital chief.
She went into the room and met a doctor she was quite familiar with. Limuel stood aloof as Daphne exchanged pleasantries with the doctor. Then she requested a full body check up. The main goal was to get Limuel to go with her. Then, pretend to be scared of the machine, it was only normal Limuels protective instincts to be sparked, for she knew that Limuel still loved her. As fate was on her side that day. Her plan worked. Limuel was soon dressed in a hospital robe and was ready for a full body check up.
