She had hesitated several times since coming back from the company, debating whether or not to call him, but each time she held her cell phone in hand… she put it back down again.
She feared that her enthusiasm might push him further away… just like last night.
Though making a phone call couldn't really be considered too enthusiastic.
It took about half a minute before the call connected, and perhaps the wait, tinged with nervousness, made that short half-minute seem exceptionally long, so that when the deep male voice finally came through, she momentarily felt disoriented.
"Chi Huan?"
She didn't make a sound for several seconds.
"Do you need something from me?"
Only then did Chi Huan come to her senses, her lips pursed as she softly asked, "The housekeeper said you won't be coming back for dinner."
The man's voice was as usual, betraying no particular emotion, "Mhm, I'm working overtime. I might come back very late today, so you go to sleep early."
"Working overtime?"
