Ling Ruonan hadn't noticed her surroundings; it was only when Luo Ziling slowed down his pace that she realized something was wrong.
"What's wrong?" She too became immediately alert.
"Danger," Luo Ziling grabbed Ling Ruonan and dodged to the side, planning to take cover near the roadside trees, using them to shield their bodies.
But his reaction was still a beat too slow. Just as he shielded Ling Ruonan and before he could fully dodge, he felt a sharp pain in his back as if something heavy had struck him hard.
Clutching Ling Ruonan in his arms, he couldn't help but stagger and almost fell.
Fortunately, his reflexes were quick. When danger approached, he had already dodged. When the heavy object hit him, his body had already turned, so the object hit him at an angle, changed direction and slid toward the ground.
Immediately, a spark of light appeared on the ground, something bounced, and then disappeared into the darkness.
