Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A Favor

The quiet emergency room was filled only with the sound of ticking. The old general sitting on the bed slowly opened his eyes and murmured, "Little Lin?"

The middle-aged man was visibly shaken. He rushed over, his eyes red and overflowing with emotion as he stammered, "Dad! I'm here! I'm here!"

Clinging tightly to the elder's hand, tears streamed down his face. Even a grown man couldn't help but weep. He was so close, so close to being eternally separated!

Su Han glanced at them and said nothing. He turned and was about to leave when Professor Xu hurriedly followed him. In stark contrast to his previous disdain, he seemed like a completely different person.

"Mr. Su, I was quite offensive just now. Please don't take it to heart, haha," Professor Xu followed behind Su Han, suddenly seeming a bit constrained.

With such skills, calling him "Mr. Su" was certainly not too much!

Su Han stopped, looked at Professor Xu, and said softly, "Professor Xu, I am a doctor. So, saving someone's life is what I most wish to do. You are doctors too. How can you give up when the patients themselves haven't?

Professor Xu nodded repeatedly. In the face of a master skilled in the ancient art of Profound Qi Finger, his title as a professor meant nothing!

Mr. Su is right. I was indeed confused," Professor Xu shook his head repeatedly.

The young nurse standing aside was completely bewildered. What was going on? Professor Xu was apologizing to a young triage nurse?

What a joke!

She felt as if the world had suddenly turned mad.

"Professor Xu, you are my senior. Please just call me Little Su. In the future, there's much I need to learn from both seniors," Su Han nodded slightly, showing no arrogance. After saying that, he turned around and exited the emergency room.

Just as Professor Xu was about to leave, Elder Zhang followed up, "Old Xu, what exactly happened?"

"This Mr. Su is a true expert," Professor Xu said with a sigh, lowering his voice as if he suddenly remembered something. He quickly turned his head to the pretty young nurse, "Young lady, are you currently assigned to the triage desk?"

The pretty nurse was startled, nodding dumbly.

Professor Xu smiled, "Later on, go to the HR department and submit your documents. Have them arrange for you to go to a clinical department. Say that it was my directive."

Having said that, Professor Xu also left the emergency room, while the nurse still seemed to be living in a dream. The clinical department... it was the department that every nurse wanted to work in!

Had she... just by doing a small favor for Su Han, earned a spot in the clinical department? Oh my, happiness had come so unexpectedly!

Outside the door, as soon as Su Han stepped out, Director Liu charged at him and grabbed his collar, hissing fiercely, "You ignorant fool, do you want to kill this hospital? You're fired now! Understand? You're fired!"

"Liu Cheng, let go of me!"

Professor Xu came out and upon seeing how rude Director Liu was, he immediately began to scold loudly.

Liu Cheng was taken aback, not understanding what had happened. Why was Professor Xu defending this youngster? Judging by Professor Xu's expression... could it be that he had saved the patient? How could that be possible!

"How are you even a director? Little Su is such a good doctor, and you put him at the triage desk? Do you not want your job anymore?" Professor Xu scolded, his eyes showing his displeasure.

Director Liu was completely dumbfounded, could this young man really have brought someone back to life?

At this moment, Su Han's face remained calm, as if what he had just done was nothing out of the ordinary. He glanced at Director Liu and said indifferently, "What I want to do is save lives. Isn't a hospital a place to treat and save the sick? If it can't do that, what's the point of its existence?"

Director Liu was at a loss for words, his mouth agape but not knowing what to say. This kid must have just been lucky. How could he have really saved a life? That's impossible.

Chastised by Su Han in such a manner, Director Liu felt unwilling but also knew that it was not the time to say anything more, lest he offend people like Old Xu and the others.

After Su Han finished speaking, he was about to return to the triage desk to continue his work when the middle-aged man who had been inside the emergency room hurriedly followed him out.

"Mr. Su, please wait!" The middle-aged man approached, exhaling deeply. He had just asked his father how he was feeling, and the old general actually said he felt very well, which nearly moved him to tears with excitement.

He walked up to Su Han, bowed earnestly, "Mr. Su, I really can't thank you enough, I owe you a favor! If you ever run into any trouble in East City District, I'll help you within my capabilities."

The people around, upon seeing the middle-aged man's gesture, were even more astonished. A favor from District Chief Dong?

But Su Han simply shook his head slightly, "There's no need for that. It's just my duty as a doctor, it hardly counts as a favor."

The moment Su Han said this, the people around were even more shocked; he was actually declining a favor from District Chief Dong? Unbelievable!

Even Dong Lin was somewhat surprised. He rarely owed anyone favors, and if it weren't for Su Han saving his father's life, he would never have said such a thing. Could it really be that Su Han didn't care?

"Your father suffered many injuries in his youth, accumulation in the body over time is difficult to resolve all at once, and requires further treatment..."

"Then why aren't you hurrying up to treat the old man!" Before Su Han could finish, Director Liu interjected anxiously, "Do you even know who District Chief Dong is? Do you know who the old general is?"

Su Han's expression suddenly turned cold. He glanced at Director Liu, and his tone became chilly as well. He had been patient time and again, but Director Liu kept on pressing him, reprimanding him, as if he were easy to bully!

"In my eyes, there are only patients, no statuses. If I want to save someone, I'll save them; if I don't want to, begging me is useless!" Having said that, Su Han turned and left without dawdling, causing Dong Lin to panic instantly.

He glared fiercely at Director Liu, wishing he could send him flying with a slap, "Are you trying to kill my dad?"

With Dong Lin's roar, Director Liu's legs went weak. He had just wanted to order Su Han to treat the old man to make a good impression on District Chief Dong, but he hadn't anticipated...

Old Xu also shook his head, casting an impatient and disappointed glance at Director Liu, then huffed lightly and left with Professor Zhang, leaving Director Liu standing there in a daze, on the verge of tears.

Dong Lin hurriedly followed, still very polite. He knew that Su Han could save his father, and he dared not show any disrespect. A person respected by both Old Xu and Professor Zhang was no ordinary man.

"Mr. Su, as you said, it's because of my father's past contributions to the country in battle that you chose to lend a hand. Please, a good deed through and through, help my father with his health." Dong Lin was very sincere; in this life, his father was the most important person to him.

Su Han stopped and looked at Dong Lin, sensing his filial piety. The way Dong Lin had knelt outside the emergency room had deeply impressed Su Han—a man of his stature, who kneels only to heaven and his parents. Helping such a person once was not too much to ask.

"Your father was wounded serving the country, and in his old age, he deserves a peaceful twilight. I can help with that," Su Han said after a moment's thought, speaking calmly.

Dong Lin's excitement surged, and he grasped Su Han's hand, thanking him repeatedly, and handed his business card to Su Han.

"Mr. Su, I really can't thank you enough. Here's my number, and if you're free, just call me anytime. I'll send someone to pick you up immediately!"
