"Din, wait there for me," Long Dao cut me off with her back facing me while the door was closing behind her.
When the door closed entirely, I felt awkward because now I am all by myself. I know no one here, and sure enough, I didn't want to walk around to randomly find some off-limit like the other main characters. I don't want to be like accidentally find some national secret that can set the world on fire and result in me getting chase by the Quy family. No-no-no, I am still treasuring this new life of mine.
Having nowhere to go, I just wait at the door like the girl who greeted us told me to. I was thinking of talking to her, but for some reason, this girl gave off a dangerous vibe.
So I just stood there and closed my eyes. I like to do that a lot because I always have fun when having my eyes closed. I'm not being a nerd here, but… imagination is something that can lead you to discover things and concepts that you didn't even know.
While I was playing with my thoughts and imagination, something came to me. "I could use [Wisdom of the Senses] to hear their conversation. But should I though?"
I remembered back when Long Dao told me to respect her privacy so I was hesitant to use my skill. "But she brought me here. That must mean I am on the same boat with her right? So even if I know about their conversation, Long Dao wouldn't yell at me… right?"
I was playing angel and devil in my head. On one side, I was dying wanting to know what they were talking about since this was the first time I saw an arranged marriage. While on the other side, I am also afraid of Long Dao and want to respect her privacy. So in my head, an angel and a devil took their shape.
"Yo, listen to me. Since she brought you here, that means if the marriage isn't successful, you will be dragged into trouble too. At least get as much info as you can," the devil told me.
"No. Even if the marriage fails, general Long Dao is still a responsible person. She will make sure you won't be in trouble," the angel this time.
"Dude," the devil now turned to the angel, "How can we trust her. Yeah, I agree that she is a good person as far as we have seen, but how can you be sure that in the future, she won't ditch us?"
"How can you say that to a good person without any proof other than suspicion," the angel fought back. "Like in our world, she is innocent until proven guilty. So stop poisoning Din with bad thoughts."
"Hey! What did you say to me? Poisoning?" they were about to fight.
"Stop!" now I spoke, in my head of course. "I thought we are having a debate right here. Why is it becoming an insult fighting?" I said to the angel.
"I'm sorry," the angel apologized. He looked embarrassed.
"Ha! See?" the devil got full of himself.
"And you!" I yelled at the devil. "Even if he was wrong, you are too when you are about to fight him. Remember, no violence in a debate!"
"Bu… but he was insulting me," the devil fought back.
"So? Just because he did something wrong, that doesn't justify your wrongdoing," I scolded him again.
"You...," he got mad and turned away. "I swear, you should be a lawyer if we have a chance to return to our world."
"Hey!" the angel suddenly yelled at the devil. "Don't remind him of that," he was being nice by whispering, but I could still hear it. (because they were my imagination.)
"Oops!" The devil slowly faced me again. "Haha… sorry," he put up that embarrassing smile that I have always done since I came here.
"So, what are you going to do Din?" the angel asked to change the subject.
"Hm…" I thought for a moment, scratching my head. "I will…listen," I made a decision.
"Are you sure about that? What if Long Dao finds out?" the angel was concerning for me. How nice of him.
"I'll just play dumb so she won't know that I know about the conversation," I answered confidently.
"I don't trust that mouth of yours. You will definitely slip out a word or two," the angel gave me a doubtful look.
"You know what?... Even though you're right," it was hard for me to accept that fact. "But…"
I opened my eyes and ended the conversation. In the back of my head, I could still hear faintly both the angel and the devil complained, "You a**hole. How could you just cut us off!"
Hearing that I just smiled to myself, "*Sigh* Din, you know your imagination is too good when your creations can even curse at you."
"Now then," I became serious again. "Activate," I tried to whisper as quietly as I could so that the girl can't hear me, but I am not sure if she heard me or not.
[Wisdom of the Senses activated. Starting countdown] the game system appeared in front of my face.
I then slowly turned my head a little and glanced at the girl to see if she had noticed the game screen, but there was no reaction from her.
"Phew" I forgot that the game screen always appears like that when I use the skill. Luckily only I am able to see it. "Alright. Let's see, or hear, what we have," I close my eyes and focus solely on my enhanced hearing sense to try and listen to what they were talking about in the room behind me.
"Talking for a while now, how do you think of me," a voice of a young man, probably the guy that the chancellor picked for Long Dao.
"I don't like you," she was as cold and straightforward as ever.
"Ha," I slipped up my laughter. The girl looked at me confused but then turned away.
"Dao," the chancellor said this time. "Don't be rude," he sounded a little upset.
"It is fine, chancellor, your daughter here is very honest. I like that character from her," the young man's voice spoke.
"Yeah right, that line of yours is so fake," I thought to myself.
"Your fake personality is what makes me don't like you," Long Dao said this time.
"See? I and Long Dao have the same thought," I was laughing inside.
"It doesn't matter if you like me or not," the young man said. "What's important is will you accept this marriage?" he asked.
"Surely, she would decline," I thought to myself as though I already know the answer.
Then I heard Long Dao speak, "To answer your question. I…"
"Uhm… why did she stop there?" I asked myself. "Hello? Long Dao?" I was yelling inside dying to know her answer.
But I couldn't hear anything else. I then opened my eyes to see the game screen in my face again.
[Wisdom of the Senses has reached 60 seconds. Please wait 30 minutes for the cooldown.]
"Oh system! You b*tch!"
