Chapter 8 - Three Nations

Diary 4

At this moment when I started writing this diary, it has been a few days since the last one. Nothing important happened really. Our troops didn't make any move nor the enemy, so it had been a stalemate since I joined the camp.

The soldiers were training during the day and talking and playing at night. I personally skipped the talking and playing part because I need time to write diary 2 and 3. And you know how hard it was for me to write diary 2 and how long diary 3 was. I was lucky enough that we didn't have much action for a few days to catch up.

But just as I thought I could spend a day resting after finishing both of them, something happened. Before jumping in my story, let me give you some background info about the new world that I am currently in:

From what I heard from the soldiers' small talks, apparently, this world is divided up into three countries: Lai, Hoa, and Lan. I am currently in the camp of Lai, which is famous for helping refugees doesn't matter where they came from.

Lai is called the Savior. Hoa though is the complete opposite of Lai. They are famous for conquering and expanding their territory. Hoa is called the Conqueror. As for Lan, they are a little more unique. Lan has a history of strong warlords who were able to get many territories for themselves, but currently, the country is living peacefully and just focuses on its own growth. Nevertheless, Lan is called the Sleeping Berserk.

At the moment, Lai and Lan are peaceful and don't want any actions, while Hoa is trying to expand their territory. Hearing that, I am glad that the system put me in Lai and not Hoa because I despise any government that wants to invade another country. I don't know if it was because of my people's history in my world that made me think this way, I just do not like the idea of fighting at all.

Oh, I am getting off track here, but yeah, that is the general info of the world I am in right now. If there is anything more, I'll update you.

Wait. Sorry, I forgot something important. Do you still remember Long Dao from the previous diary? Well, I found out that her full name is Quy Long Dao, and apparently she was born with a golden spoon in her mouth.

I heard from the soldiers that she is the daughter of the chancellor of Lai, whose influence is only below the king, and also the head of the Quy family. She has a sister who is now the king's wife, queen of Lai, who the king really loves and is fond of. Right now, Long Dao, or I have to call general when referring to her outside of the diaries, is protecting a part of the border against Hoa with the supervision of her brother, who is the head general of Lai.

At this point, you could say that the Quy family is controlling the government with the father being the head of the politicians, the brother being the head of the country's army, and the sister who can influence the king's decisions.

When I learned about the Long Dao background and more importantly the true owner of Lai, I was impressed but at the same time not happy at all. I have seen too many similar situations in my world's history where a powerful family manipulates the king to control the country themselves. Let me just say most of the time, their greediness is what ruined them, and countless lives in the end.

Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't any situations that were actually good for the country. Like the Tran family who slowly overtook the Ly dynasty. In the end, they actually helped Dai Viet by successfully defending three Mongol invasions and even helping to rebuild the civilians' lives after the war.

I just hope that the Long Dao family is like the Tran family, but now thinking back to when she said her name, she didn't include her last name right? Isn't it weird and informal to introduce yourself without saying your full name? Especially in medieval times like this. Does that mean she doesn't like her family, therefore, doesn't want to mention her last name? Or maybe it is just me thinking too much right now.

Man, look at me, I am so far in this diary without even mentioning a thing that happened today. Not to keep you waiting anymore.

Today was special because Hoa's troops for some reason decided to retreat, probably because they had lost their general and doesn't know what to do without a leader. So Long Dao announced that we will be heading back to the capital. If anything happens, the head general, her brother will take care of it and will ask for reinforcement if he needs to.

Everyone was happy and excited to be back with their family after rough days on the battlefield. I, too, am excited to see what Lai will look like from the inside, so now I will end this diary here to finally enjoy some time with other soldiers and get ready for tomorrow's travel.

I am sorry to disappoint you for wishing for some actions, but hey, this is not like a fantasy world where every day is packed with experience. I am truly living, so there will be days that are crazy chaotic like diary 3, and days like this where I will just enjoy my time as a normal soldier of Lai.
