Chereads / Rokuro’s Nightmare / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

"Which one of you is his son?" Daichi asked.

Both the boys looked at him with curious faces, not being able to understand what he meant to ask. Daichi then pointed to Mr. Danuja who was sitting in the chair. Miyuki nodded and told Daichi that he was his son.

"And what about you?" Daichi asked Rokuro.

Rokuro looked at Miyuki, and then at his mother. He didn't know how to answer this question. He wanted to punch this man in the face but he couldn't, for the time being at least, and he now had to answer him such a question. He, however, decided to go with the truth.

"The man you saw in the video, he is my father." Rokuro said, locking his eyes with Daichi's.

Daichi stressed his eyebrows and creases formed on his forehead.

"You are Kono's son? Kono Arata?" Daichi asked and Rokuro nodded.

"I have seen you somewhere but I don't remember where." Daichi said.

"At school, with Mika." Rokuro said.

Daichi seemed to remember at once the memories of his visit to the school.

"You son of a…" Daichi held Rokuro by his collar and threw him to the side.

"Leave him, you coward." Mrs. Arata yelled at Daichi. He looked at her in disgust.

"Or what? Huh?" Daichi said.

"Or you'll land in jail. It's over." Daichi looked around with his perplexed face to find the source of the familiar voice. He made a full circle on his heels but couldn't see anyone, until someone appeared from behind the big pillar about twenty meters in front of him.

Bewildered Daichi saw the face slowly make itself visible from behind that pillar. His world was shaken upside down, and so was everybody else's when they turned around to see who it was.

"Mika? You?" Daichi said, barely able to speak. "What are you doing here at this point?"

"Confronting you." Mika said as she slowly walked towards him.

"What do you mean? What are you talking about, sweetie?" Daichi said with his fake smile.

"Don't you even try to pretend now. I know everything about you. I've known everything about you since the first day. I just never could say anything, but now I can." Mika said.

"There must be some sort of misunderstanding my sweetheart."

"Don't call me that. You have no right to call me that anymore."

Daichi's frustration levels were rising and he was finding it hard to keep himself composed. Souta made a sprint to Mika and held her face in his hand, trying to look and sound as innocent as he could.

"What's wrong my dear? How did you come here?" Souta said.

Mika took hold of his hands and flipped them in the air.

"They're here, and no one can save you now." Mika said.

"Who is here? Will you even tell us what you are talking about?" Souta said.

Souta had only just completed his question when he heard footsteps approaching. All of them except Mika looked towards the direction of the footsteps, and in the distance, they could see policemen approaching them. There were quite a few, meaning they had come prepared and it was not a random visit.

The policemen started to run as they got closer to the scene with guns in their hands. The brothers and their men were startled, they didn't have any idea what was happening and more importantly, why was it happening. The police stopped as they reached the scene.

"Hands where I can see them, everybody. Now." The police officer said.

"Now!" The officer yelled as nobody responded to his command. He took his gun out as well, pointing it towards the Shuji brothers.

They raised their hands slowly with a look of surprise on their faces. The officer asked the Arata and Danuja family not to raise their hands, so they stopped midway and retracted back. He took a few steps towards Daichi.

"I've been wanting to get my hands on you two for quite some time now. I've finally gotten some conclusive evidence against you, and I'm not going to let this opportunity slip past. You're going in, for long." The officer said, emphasizing the last few words.

"You must be kidding me. What is it that you have against us?" Daichi said.

The officer was quick to show him the same video on his phone that he had seen in the morning. He couldn't believe his eyes. He wondered what was happening and how was it possible.

"This video, how did you get it?" Daichi asked.

"I gave it to them." Mika said and took a few steps towards Daichi. The look on Daichi's face said it all. The two families and the police officers looked at the two brothers be shocked and surprised. Mrs. Arata, in particular, enjoyed watching them be baffled.

"What do you mean? How did you get your hands on those pictures and videos in the first place? And even if you did, why did you do it? To your uncles?" Souta said.

"And what did you do? To all those innocent people? Did you think about them? That they were someone's father and uncles as well? Did you? Tell me." Mika said.

"What has gotten into you? Why do you talk in that manner with us? You have never raised your voice before us, and now you're handing us over to the police?"Daichi said.

"I guess senses have gotten into me. I should have done it earlier, but I was scared of what you'd do to me. Besides, I didn't have anything to prove my words, but now I do."

"But how? How did you get those videos?"

"Miyuki sent them to me. We had already talked about it when they left for their trip a few days ago."

"You were in it all this while?"

"I have been in it for a long time now, I just didn't tell anyone."

"But why? Why did you do this to us?"

"What do you think any sane person would have done? I've seen all that you've done ever since I was little, and I've had this incredible guilt in me for living with you two. I used to wonder what people would do to me if they ever found out about your business. So, this was the perfect opportunity to even out things. Why wait for others to send you behind the bars when I could do it myself. With the help of my friends, of course."

"You little piece of…" Daichi said and moved towards Mika and held her by her neck. He tried to strangle her when the police came to her rescue.

"You won't be able to do any of that now. Get ready for jail time." The police officer said once he was able to free Mika from Daichi.

Mika looked at her uncle with disgust on her face.

"I knew you could treat me like others, it was only a matter of time when you did. I'm not surprised at all." Mika said.

"Take them." The police officer commanded his juniors to take the brothers and their minions with them.

Mika strolled towards the two families and sat down with them. Mr. Danuja too stood up from that chair and joined his family. They were all exhausted, all they could hear was the heavy breathing of everyone.

"Do you need any help?" The officer asked.

"No, we're fine. Thank you, sir." Mika said.

The police officers walked away with the two brothers and their men. All their weapons were seized as they walked empty-handed.

"You were in this? You never told me, why?" Rokuro asked Mika.

"I don't know. I didn't want to tell you that I was in it and not be able to do anything. I had always waiter for something like this, something concrete that could put them behind the bars. I didn't waste time once I got hands-on those videos." Mika explained.

"It would have only helped us if we knew you were on our side. You didn't have to pretend like you didn't know anything." Rokuro argued.

"I didn't pretend. As I said, I just waited for the right time before letting it all out. Now happened to be the time."

"Hmm. But how did you get those videos?"

"He sent me." Mika said, pointing to Miyuki. "Weren't you listening?"

"I was, but I don't get it. How did he send them to you? We just came out of that jungle and were captured by your uncles." Rokuro said.

"I sent them to her just when we were in the hut itself. She told me there could be something fishy waiting for us. So it was better to share anything we get out hands-on with her as soon as possible, which is what I did. I shared the pictures and videos with her and she showed them to the police. Lucky for us, the police officer happened to dislike her uncle as well." Miyuki said.

"Good thing you came here on time." Rokuro said.

"Well, I had to once I saw the two of them leave in a hurry. I knew they must have been informed about your presence on the island." Mika said.

"But what if you were not there to help us? What would have happened in that case?" Rokuro asked Mika.

"Do you think I would have let you slide into this mess without having a backup plan?" Miyuki said.

"What was the backup? What if we didn't find anything on the island? What would she have done in that case?" Rokuro said.

"She would have called the police in any case. She would have just said that it was a missing people complain if we would not have found the videos." Miyuki answered.

"Oh! Clever."

"Well, kids, it's time now to get back home. We've had enough adventure for the weekend." Mr. Danuja said.

"Oh yes, I agree with you on that." Miyuki said.

"Can I come with you guys?" Mika said.

"Oh for sure honey. You are most welcome to join us. We would love to have you with us." Mrs. Arata said.

"Great!" Mika said as everybody stood up and dusted their clothes.

They walked out of the facility while holding their hands and called for a taxi that was parked nearby. They asked the driver to take them all of them to Rokuro's house. It took them a few hours to reach the destination.

Every one of them sighed in relief as they got out of the cab. They were crammed inside the taxi, so it was indeed a big relief to get out of it, though Mika still managed to keep a smiling face.

"Everything has collected dust in just three days. You can't leave the house even for one day these days." Mrs. Arata said.

"Oh, that's so right. I agree with you on that." Mrs. Danuja said.

"That's fine ladies, just leave it at that. Let's have some tea." Mika said and looked out for the kitchen. Mrs. Arata helped her find it and accompanied her into it as well, where both of them made some tea for everyone.

"Here." Mika said, keeping the tray on the table. Rokuro looked at her with amazed eyes. He wondered if this was the girl he knew, the girl who used to keep it to herself, now serving tea to the two families. He could have never imagined her being so social, though there was no doubt about her kind heart.

"When did you decide to be involved in this, Mika?" Mr. Danuja asked.

"Umm, I don't remember actually. Miyuki and I were just sitting one day casually chatting about our lives when I uttered about how I hated my uncles. I didn't want to say so, the words just came out of my mouth on their own, and the conversation just flowed from there." Mika said and paused. "I asked him not to share anything with anyone, and he promised. He's a very good friend. It had been many months since we started talking about my uncles, but it was only a few days ago when I came to know about Rokuro's story. I could easily relate to what Rokuro and Mrs. Arata would have felt because of my uncles. That is when I told Miyuki that I would like to be a part of the team as well, though he stated that it would be unwise of her to do that unless we had evidence against my uncles. So, I stayed quiet and hoped for the best, and as luck would have it, you guys found out the videos and pictures. I couldn't be happier when I saw them. But I knew your lives were in danger, so I immediately got in touch with the nearest police station, and you're aware of the rest of the story."

"Sounds like a movie script to me. I guess we all were lucky." Mr. Danuja said.

"Too much, perhaps. But I'm glad that we were." Rokuro added.

"Yeah, we couldn't have pulled it off if luck wasn't on our side."

"Good luck got us some good tea as well." Miyuki said and chuckled.

Everybody else joined in as well and laughed a little.
