He ran through the next wall of steam, switching from area to area like a game. The ground below was muddier than before, the bottom of his boots sunk quickly as he walked forward.
Above him he could see the dots of burning arrows sent towards the army behind, slowly moving through the steam walls as they neared the fortress and Venator.
He continued running forward, taking quick glances at each area for an enemy, the hails intensified to begin assaulting the entire field, the twilight sky above soon glowed with a furious orange fire, hundreds of arrow tips crashed down unto anyone below.
He continued forming pillars in front of him, creating cover as the arrows blotted the moonlight and struck the earth pillow.
The land was quickly filled by the smell of smoke, the fire of the arrows extinguished quickly on the water creating steam.
Slowly clouds of smoke formed below him, Venator continued running while the barrage went on.
As he continued running, the ground suddenly rose in heat. A cloud of steam spawned in seconds around Venator, everywhere all he could see were grey walls of hot steam. The ground beneath him turned dry from evaporation, leaving crunchy grass and hard dirt on the ground.
HE walked through, feeling immense heat attack all parts of his body, Venator's breathing became more laboring in each step he took with the heat exhausting him quick.
His walking slowly turned to a slower sprint, hearing whistles of arrows around him he continued to try and create pillars but to no avail, he didn't know where he was going, nor where he was facing.
The cold air slammed into him, finally exiting out of the field of steam behind him, he took in it's embrace with relief and joy. The fortress was closer, and from it, fires were rising from the inside, the infiltrators have begun their work inside.
The field was nearly empty, the sky above still filled with constant arrow fire, the limited lunar light showed nothing in the grassland.
Venator walked forward, refreshed from cold winds and clenching his sword, turning his burning hand into a makeshift torch to provide a better viewing.
Water began flooding the earth under him, reaching up his boots.
"Oh no." His eyes widened, steam rose up rapidly around him, obscuring the entire area once again.
"Come out already you coward!" He yelled out in anger and irritation, tired of the constant harassment of steam and lack of a mage nearby.
A circle of steam broke, revealing a cloaked figure holding a longsword jumping towards Venator, both of them locked eyes with each other in sudden realization of each other's presence.
Raising his own sword up, the mage crashed into Venator, gaining his footing on the ground, now pushing one another while their swords grinded against each other in fury.
On the ground, they struck one another with strong slams of their swords causing sparks to go all around in the air. They aimlessly continued trying to strike one another with metal and fire, Venator became faster in assault, following where the strikes hit the mage as he maneuvered through the hot white smoke.
In one final swing, the sword met the mage's clothes, tearing through them the mage grabbed it in pain, tumbling back in shock.
Satisfaction and joy hit Venator's mind, faintly seeing the mage's wounded silhouette through the steam.
He grabbed the mage's tunic, with his sword he drove it right through the mage, silencing the battle.
With a finished fight, Venator stepped out now feeling a glint of satisfaction after killing the mage.
As he exited the smoke, he saw the fortress once again. It was burning, large pillars of fire rose above from multiple spots inside, the barrage above ceased.
The General's armies soon arrived outside the blinding steam field.
Before long, the sky was blotted out once again, but this time, large boulders enveloped by orange flame were sent hurling towards the fields.
Shocked and frightened at the sudden strike, with little hope of trying to hold his ground, Venator began running through the field. The Armies behind him began running around different directions as the boulders crashed to the ground like meteors, leaving large pits of fire around, disfiguring the land they stand on.
While it continued, explosions began rocking in the inside, chunks of rock and stone began flying at all directions as the fortress inside began blowing up, walls shattered and anything inside soon turned into rubble.
"What are they holding inside that place." Venator looked, confused at what was happening inside the fortress.
Earlier it stood tall and menacing, blending with the dead of the knight, but now, it was breaking and on fire.
Shouts of joy were heard behind Venator, the General's soldiers moved faster while staying in formation, charging at the broken fortress with nothing but soldiers, armor, steel, and their mage.
With a drive to finish his task, Venator ran in front of them, nearly leading the charge. The scouting horsemen stayed behind throughout the assault.
Groups of men flew high as the boulders landed hard onto the field, some continued limping forward with heavy injuries.
The defense slowly broke down, explosions reaching their way to the very top, catapults and trebuchets flew out of the fortress in pieces, littering the ground in splintered wood and broken metal.
The roars became louder from the soldiers, vengeance and joy of a burning fortress filled their minds. Venator took out the bottle that was given to him, he began drinking it, quickly stopping as the bottle became half empty.
Slowly, his fire turned blue once again, his body became light, and his sword became easier to swing like a feather.
The fortress became closer and closer to them, running full force at the large crumbling gate, the metal bars separating them from the outside started falling down.
"Onward to the inside men! Show them Bellunamien wrath!" The General yelled out to his soldiers.
The armies rapidly converged, merging strength as they went to the gate
Archers on the walls helplessly continued firing while explosions and fire stood around them.
The Assault has now begun.
