The compass is also one of the inheritance artifacts from a master, signifying the transition of a master's lifetime of knowledge, expectations, and full trust to their disciple. This is commonly referred to in the martial arts community as passing the rice bowl to the disciple, in hopes of them continuing the legacy and furthering its greatness.
If a Feng Shui Master, whether a renowned teacher or a novice Feng Shui apprentice, lacks the legacy of a master, then they do not possess the key technical secrets of the lineage, usually lacking the qualification for direct lineal succession.
