Chereads / A Starry Wish / Chapter 22 - The Rain Goddess

Chapter 22 - The Rain Goddess

"Behold, the climax of your story, before descending into an ending!" I said before being devoured by a horde of defect members of this world. You lowlives were considered lucky to have me as your meal, but I am no longer tasty, since I have given away my singularity to someone else. What's the difference if you even gained mine, since you will be the next to be devoured from this endless chain of greed. I thought to myself.

The world suddenly ended, perhaps Yuuma-kun had did it? Ah... They are still gobbling me up, even though the world is ending. Is it really frustrating to disappear without a good reason? People should be glad that you're no ghosts, otherwise you'd be haunting them both day and night. Everything started to fade, perhaps they were no longer necessary to exist, the station building slowly disappears, revealing a evening sky. A rainbow painted itself across the sky, yet it's colour were a bit dim. Perhaps indicating that Ame-sama is disappointed at the outcome.

Well, it's time for me to disappear, I thought to myself. I gently closed my eyes, until my consciousness and senses fades away, I thought I was no longer existing, yet I woke up on a side a road. It's the same world, except it's different, slightly. Everyone is given singularity despite unrealated to each other. They were given the chance to think and feel for themselves. Is this the afterlife world I'm supposed to be in? No. This is like in a real world. Why am I brought over into another world? My role is over, and now, I am lost.

Walking aimlessly in the streets, I noticed a familiar figure.

"Isn't it Jun?" I said.

"So you are here huh? You looked pathetic. Your suicidal plan ended with this. That girl you helped, is now a part of Yuuma's trial." Jun said. Yuuma?! So he did wish upon the star?

"Well... I guess I'll help them now..." I said.

"You are no longer a trial guide. You should just go on and live your own life." Jun said.

"My own life...? I'm suppose to disappear after helping Rika with her trial. I have no purpose to exist now! I'll just assume my old role, just observing, is enough." I said, while walking away.

"Just for your information, patroling policemen will treat you as a suspicious person and will arrest you in this world." Jun said. The truth stabs through my chest, he's right! Even policemen have singularity in this world. I knelt down, knowing the fact that I'm no longer useful to Ame-sama.

"Well, you should meet with someone." Jun said.

"Huh? Who is that?" I asked with curiousity.

"Just follow me, it's quite far from here." Jun started walking in the opposite direction. I quickly climbed up, and followed him.

We walked for a distance, I remember this road, it leads to the hill where Ame-sama's shrine is at. Is it Ame-sama who could end my meaningless existence? I had my hopes up, and walked forward with passion. We reached the shrine. Jun walked in without paying respects to the shrine. I grabbed him.

"Who do you think you are? Entering the shrine without paying respects?" I said angrilly.

"Well, your loving goddess is not here. Plus, she owes me an explaination." Jun said, and then pushes me away.

"You...!" I stopped, I paid respects to the pillars outside the entrance, and climbed the stairs up.

Jun walked to the head priest's chambers, visitors with a appoinment may enter the chambers. The shrine maidens seem to respect Jun a lot. Perhaps he was here back in his world. I followed closely until he stopped in front of a room.

"It's me, Kurosaki Junichirou. I'm here for an audience." Jun knocked the door. The head priest opened the door, and invited us in.

"What kind of assistance do you require from us?" The head priest asked. Jun took a sip on the tea served by the shrine maidens. He paused a bit.

"Well, just take this guy in." Jun said blatantly. Where is your formal speech just now?!

"Oh...? Is there any reason behind that?" The head priest asked.

"Based on the Rain Goddess' lore, she did carved dolls out of clay and made them come to life. She made three, yet the three of them had a mind of their own and ran away." Jun said.

"Do you imply that...?" The high priest tried to catch on what Jun said. Not just him, I'm not even understanding anything from Jun.

"Well, she just created a person out of the blue, even bringing him over to this world. It's not suppose to happen even after a trial." Jun said. The head priest were astonished hearing that.

"In that case, it is our responsibility for this. Young man, may I know your name?" The head priest asked.

"Souma Ryutenji, sir." I said.

"Ryutenji... Ah I suppose this is the name she gave you?" The head priest asked. I nodded.

"Such a nice name. You may stay here from now on, your duty will include keeping the shrine in order." The head priest said. Keeping Ame-sama's shrine in order, this is something I would want to do all day! I nodded with joy.

I followed their strict teachings and training, without thinking of giving up. I found my new role, feeling proud of myself. With this new situation of mine, I started to think. People who suddenly lost their role in their life, they don't just disappear is it? How did they manage to stay alive and work on throughout their life? It seems like I'm too weak to think that I should just disappear. For a moment, I felt bad for erasing Rika's memories without her consent. I hope she will be fine after this. There is no use to think about past incidents any further.

From last summer up to now, a lot has happened. Ame-sama occasionally appeared as a small girl and runs around. Ah no, it's Jun chasing her.

"Souma! Souma! Souma Ryutenji!" Ame-sama called. I quickly put Ame-sama behind me. Jun stopped.

"This had nothing to do with you, she just have to answer my question. Why is this world created?" Jun asked. Ame-sama stepped out from my cover and answered his question.

"Something unfortunate happened to one of the humans who wished for my blessings. He should leave this world without regrets after this. I kindly ask the two of you to not interfere anything between them." Ame-sama said, before leaving.

"Well, if that's what she wished. I'm leaving, I have something to attend to. Perhaps we would be able to meet again in that world. Don't cry around like a lost kid when you're there, understood?" Jun said. I couldn't believe that a cold guy like him knows how to trigger my anger.

"Just go home already!" I shouted.

"Well, goodbye." Jun said, before vanishing away.

Things were fine until the incident of Yuuma-kun suddenly came to me and asked me if I knew him. Well, i'm sure that Yuuma-kun back then has merged his consciousness with the real deal. Well, that'll be easy for him to figure out. For now, he even ran to me to ask me for my help. Rika who is trying to access the erased memories would be too dangerous for her to bear. Hearing that, I even rushed to her assistance. It's not his own idea, but the idea of Amano Haruko, a girl who were friends with Rika back in the world Ame-sama created.

"Nice to see you again, Ryutenji-san." Amano-san said. She is now a lore scholar, since her blessings were to be determined to uncover secrets of the lores of Hoshidian lores.

"We never met before, but I knew about you." I replied.

"Well, I knew everything about them now. Yuuma just need to link up the presense of Rika-san's memories from the original world. Seems imposible huh?" Amano-san said.

"It is indeed imposible, yet... Isn't Yuuma-kun doing well trying to return her memories by confessing to her like that?" I pointed at Yuuma-kun, who is now lying next to Rika, along with his two friends. Amano-san tlited her head, perhaps feeling weird about my optimistical idea.

"You sure don't think so, is it?" She asked.

"I lost my direction before, as I lost my role as a trial guide. That made me thought of what humans will do if they lost their role?" I said.

"They will either work around it, or find another." Amano-san added to my statement.

I smiled, and pointed at Yuuma-kun and Rika.

"Now we look at them. Is it still impossible to you now, Amano-san?" I asked. She inhaled deeply, and exhaled, with a relaxed expression, she smiled.

"No, it is possible now. I'm sure they will find a way to clear the trials they are in now. Please help her again if the same thing happened to her again." Amano-san bowed to me, requesting me to help Rika again.

"Of course, it's my role all along." I smiled and left the school grounds, back to the shrine.

On my way, I saw the school's security guard, unable to move due to my ability. Well, he should be able to move again tomorrow. Despite the moonless night, the stars plays their roles alright, to illuminte the night. Perhaps, congratulating me to finally find my new role.
