Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: ...And Her Job.

I woke up suddenly, and everything was fuzzy and spinning. I laid down to stop the spinning, and that's when I realized I was in my bed. That's funny, I don't remember going to bed last night.

Wait, what did I do last night? Slowly it all came back to me. Me arriving at the party, playing games, drinking, relaxing on the couch, wait, and then me passing out with that drink.

What happened? How am I home? I started to freak out when my phone chimed.

*riiing*

I looked, and there was a text from an unknown number. When I opened it, I jumped because it was the creepiest thing I had ever seen.

"You awake yet, sunshine?" the text read.

"What the heck!" I texted. "Who is this?!"

"Why, I'm your savior."

"Sure, you are. And I'm Taylor Swift."

"See, last night, some creep slipped a pill in your drink, and you passed out, and he was about to do something, the little creep."

"How do I know you're telling the truth?"

"You don't."

"Fair point. Can you at least tell me your name and how you got my phone number?"

"Your phone number I got from a piece of paper that fell out your pocket when I carried you to my car to take you home. Address from emergency contacts. Name, let's roll with D."

"Oooh, so you're a wannabe mystery man?" I teased, although teasing through text isn't easy. He seemed to get it, though.

"Haha, very funny. May I ask your name?"

"Well, since I call you D, you can call me J."

"I suppose that's fair enough."

"Well, I've gotta get ready for my job and check all the wifi along the way. Talk to you later, D."

"Have a good day, sunshine."

I saw that last text and rolled my eyes. D didn't seem so bad, but he could potentially be anybody.

He could be my dad testing me, or some creepy middle-aged man. I stopped thinking about him and focused on my job.

Later, at lunch break, I was in the staff room when I got a call from El. I stepped outside and answered it.

"Hey girl, you okay? I'm worried about you. I didn't get to see you, but your emergency contacted me, and a young man's voice said, 'She's passed out, and I don't know where to take her!' for the audio clip. The image showed a young man next to your face looking scared."

"Thanks for checking in, El. I'm fine, and the guy who brought me home is a young man?"

"Yeah, why?"

"No reason. Just don't wanna be taken home by a 40-year-old man."Well, I love ya, and you're my best bestie. See you at home."

"Love ya too, El. Have a good day!"

I ended the call and stood out there for a minute. I've always loved the sky and the breeze. It's just so peaceful.

As I stand there, a strange silhouette appears at the bottom of the hill, the building I work in is on. It starts walking toward the entrance, up the mountain. I shudder and try to go inside, but the side door is locked. The only way in is past the person walking up the hill.

Even though I'm scared, which is stupid, I have to get back to work.

I can do this. Just because silhouettes aren't natural doesn't mean that I'll die. Just because this silhouette is strangely captivating doesn't mean I'll get hurt, right?
