Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: New Beginnings, Same Endings

I gulped, gathered my things, and started walking around the building to enter the front door. I could barely breathe.

I kept walking and walked right past... him?

So it's definitely a man. Okay, well, keep walking. I walked to the entrance, and he held the door open for me. He nodded, and I thanked him.

What is this? We never have visitors, and if we did, they wouldn't come on foot. I walked evenly back to the staff room. He walked up the stairs to, gulp, CEO's office.

He'll be eaten alive, I thought. I put him out of my mind and resumed my break.

*buzz*

"Attention all workers. Due to recent failures and incidents, we are filling in a new role. From now on, we will have a Head over the Intern Department. All interns need to report directly to Meeting Room 1a. Thank you."

I was shocked. That's who that man was? The head over MY DEPARTMENT?!? Good thing, I was polite.

I gathered my stuff and followed my friends and fellow interns.

When we arrived, no one was there, so we all took a seat and waited for the meeting. I decided to sit near the front by the door.

"Hello interns, I'll be your new boss. My name is Dylan Brent, but you can call me, Mr. D." He said as he walked into the room.

MR. D?!?!?! Oh. My. Gosh. Mr. D? As in D from my contacts?! No, that can't be right. Stop freaking out.

When I get lost in thought, I stare blankly, and to prevent total humiliation, my friends have learned to jolt me out of my dreams.

That's what happened now. I broke my stare and shook my head to clear it, then paid attention to Mr. D.

"I look forward to working with you, and I hope to find employees with a great work ethic."

As he said that, he looked at me, and his eyes twinkled ever so slightly. He seemed to be in his 20s. But how could someone so young be in such a high position?

"Do any of you have any questions?" he asked. I found myself raising my hand.

"Um, excuse me, Mr. D., but you look awfully young to have such a powerful position." I timidly started yet boldly finished.

"Well, let's just say I'm awfully talented. And yes, I am quite young to be in this position. 27 years old, in fact. Any other questions?"

Some of the female interns sighed and stared at him with their heads in their hands. I rolled my eyes at them and thought about how I'm younger than them, 25, and 28-32-year-old women staring at our supervisor. Ugh.

"So, no?" he said. "Good. Now I think it's time I let you get back to work. Our next meeting is tomorrow at 9 AM prompt. You are dismissed."

I gathered my things and headed back to my office.
