Chapter 32 - A Cloaking Spell

Leaning against the wooden door frame, Dana continued to stare at Aden's retreating back as he disappeared into the woods. She waved at him one more time when she saw him looking over his shoulder with a smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

When he was no longer in her line of sight, she finally shut the door close and exhaled out a long sigh.

"I am sorry that you had to see that." She spoke up as she shifted her attention back to the other person in the small room who had been there all this while, the blue cloaked figure.

"What was he talking about?" In her shrill voice, the hooded figure questioned her.

"I didn't do much except for putting on a spell on his bag, that's all." Dana knew it was useless to lie or hide anything from her as it wouldn't take her long to catch it.

"Why?" She questioned Dana as she continued to stand in the same corner she had been standing throughout the time Aden was there. All she did was use a cloaking spell to hide herself from his sight and stay put in place. Moreover, he was too invested in arguing with Dana that he could barely spare his attention to something else.

"W-what do you mean why? You must have heard everything. Why are you being so inquiring now?" Dana frowned at the series of questions being thrown her way without realizing what was coming her way.

"What I want to know is who's the girl he was talking about?"

Dana heard her asking her again which only left her baffled. Before she could manage to utter a response, she saw the blue cloaked figure move from her previous spot. In one swift motion, she found her standing right before her before she could even blink her eyes.

"Answer me." She demanded a response from Dana once again.

Though her face was covered by the blue hood of her cloak, Dana could still feel her unwavering gaze boring holes into her skull. The pressure was enough to make Dana stutter through her words.

"I-I.. I don't know who he was talking about. Since he didn't mention it himself, I didn't push him for an answer. I didn't want to come off on the wrong foot before him." She answered her vaguely. Her words were responded by a meek chuckle which only made her to shrink her figure as she avoided to look back at her.

"Both of us know that you are lying through your teeth, aren't you?" She took a step closer to Dana and stared down at her. "Let me guess… it was that little demon girl wasn't it?"

"I can't say for sure." Dana answered her, still lying to the woman. She knew that the girl Aden was referring to was Amara. She had managed to steal a glance at her blaring red palm earlier in the morning, and she had no regret for her actions.

She had been watching how Aden had been buzzing above the demon girl's head for the past couple of days. And the feeling of being ignored by the guy she had been in a relationship for decades now, was enough to lit a spark of jealousy within her soul and corrupt it.

It was the only reason that she used the spell. Not only did she use it, she modified it the slightest of bits to ensure that no human would be harmed by it, and that it would only affect a demon, which was Amara in this case. She was more than satisfied by the results of her little stunt of mischief, but Aden's response regarding the matter was enough to ruin her mood.

She could only wonder how the man managed to find it as he barely kept the bag around him. She would have undone the spell soon, if things would have stayed in the dark a little longer. And here she was, facing another problem right after facing one.

It was a good thing that she was able to work her charm on Aden, but wondered how she was going to handle the mad woman who was standing before her.

A loud cackling laughter filled the eerie quietness of the room which only forced Dana to shrink her body more as she pressed it against the wall behind her.

"Don't tell me that you want the man all to yourself? And the mere presence of that demon girl is enough to threaten your position in his life?" The cloaked woman gritted through her teeth. Though her voice was still soft, it was clearly laced with rage.

"It's not like that." Dana spoke up. Before she could continue any further, she heard the very words she had been dreading.

"Esplàkà Dēcortë."

The moment the lady finished saying the words, a tearing pain shot up Dana's body and she let out a loud yell. Her body came crashing down on the ground as the muscles in her legs continued to flinch, and she landed on her knees.

"You were sent to the man for a reason. All of us waited this long just so the girl will be before him, and we can carry out our plan. But instead of making him loathe her, you are providing him with opportunities to fall in love with her all over again." The hooded woman snarled as she clenched her open palm which only spiked the intensity of the pain.

"Ughhhhhhh!"

Not being able to hold it in any longer, Dana let out a loud groan as she hunched her back.

"Do you take me as someone who's stupid enough to believe your lies?" The woman scoffed before continuing.

"You may have grown some adoration for him over the years, but may I remind you as to why he is with you? The liquid you keep feeding him doesn't only make him stronger, but also works as a charm. What he has for you is just the work of magic, and the moment his love for the demon girl grows back, the charm will no longer work on him."

She clenched her fisted palm once again, sending another wave of pain through her body which was much worse in intensity than the previous one.

"You better not let your emotions ruin our plan, or someone else will be sent to replace you." Saying the words, the cloaked figure burst into a cloud of smoke as she disappeared into thin air without leaving any trace behind.
