Chapter 19 - Interrupted By A Raven

~•Aden•~

Here I was, finally talking to her, and for the first time in the past few days she was actually talking back to me. She wasn't in her usual groggy mood, and wasn't throwing those signature deathly glares of hers at me. She was actually being nice to me. Even if it was just an act of hers, as long as I was getting what I wanted, it was fine by me.

I don't know why, but I had the sudden urge to invite her to the game tomorrow when I mentioned it. And before my mind could properly process the thought, the words had already left my mouth. Dang it! How could I forget that Dana would be there as well? Well, it was too late to take it back. So, I decided my best to pursue her to come to my game.

The more time she would spend with me, the easier it would be for me to get my hands on that purple crystal around her neck. I was more than elated when I saw her giving me a green light for the match, but it seemed like even nature couldn't stand an angel being so self-centered. A raven, a damn black bird which was merely the size of my two hands put together, ruined the moment for me.

I saw her staring at me with her widened eyes as mine scrunched with disgust. How would you feel if you were talking to the most beautiful girl on campus, finally getting the chance to have her come to watch you play and cheer for when a bird decided to bless you with its poop? Well, that was what happened to me.

"I-I…" I stammered through my words. What was I supposed to say to him as she continued to stare at me with the same shocked expression. The warmth which that little pile of poop was providing me, was nothing before the humiliation I was feeling in standing before her like this. I actually wanted the ground below my feet to split in half and engulf me alive, or the supreme power above to strike me with some lightning. But, no! Why would they make things easy for me?

"I am... s-sorry." I managed to force the words out of my dried up throat in a meek voice. I was about to continue but the rest of my words died down at the back of my throat when a loud giggling sound reverberated through my senses. I saw her hunching over as both of her palms came to rest over her stomach while she continued to laugh, tingling my senses.

At a loss of words, I continued to stand rooted to the ground as she continued to enjoy herself at my expense. Was this how it felt to get struck by lightning? Knowing myself, I would have probably gotten angry if it was Dana in her place. How was I not minding the fact that she was laughing at my current situation? It surely was weird.

"Let's…" I heard her say as she straightened her back. She took a brief pause and inhaled deeply before she continued. "Let's get your hair cleaned up." She motioned me to follow her to the other side of the stands.

"Yeah, sure!" I replied to her meekly as my feet started to follow her steps.

After walking for a little while, her steps came to a stop suddenly and so did mine. She turned around to face me and flicked her wrist right before by face to get my attention. "I can only be good to you to the extent of letting you use my water bottle to clean your hair. That's the most I can do to help you for inviting me to one of your games. People usually don't do that." I saw her shrugging her shoulders before she pointed towards a bag which was resting on the corner most seat.

She took out a dark maroon hydro flask from her bag and motioned me to sit on the next seat. As if my body had a mind of its own, it complied to her unsaid words. Damn! What was with my mind being at a loss for words every time she was around? Is she really the same person I bound my soul to? But why don't I remember doing it?

"Earth to Aden, hello?"

Her words pulled me out of my thoughts and I apologized for my absent mindedness. "I am sorry." I was about to scratch the back of my head out of my habit but she grabbed it, stopping it mid-way.

"Are you crazy? That's so gross man." She gave me a disgusted look which reminded me of the warm and wet thing stuck in the locks of my hair. "Just bend your hand over, I will pour down the water on your head. There's no need to dirty my hands or yours. Just make a trip to your room and have a shower after I have your head cleaned."

I bobbed my head up and down at her every word and did as I was told to, bend my head over and made sure that my legs were wide apart, not getting in the way. With a low pop sound, she opened the hydro flask and began to pour the water over my head. A little while later, I heard her melodious voice once again.

"It's at least out of your hair now. You can go and take shower later on."

"Thank you for your help." I smiled at her only to get a shrug in response. "You are coming to the game tomorrow." I wanted to ask her to make sure that she was coming to the game, but the words came out in a sentence instead of a question.

"Yeah! I will be there. I'll see you around then." She gave me a firm nod and began to pack her bag. Giving me a wave one last time, she walked away after placing her bag back in its previous place. Her actions and words from earlier, forced my subconscious to snap at me.

Dana always used to tell me how selfish a human could become when it came down to his own good and interests. More or less, I agreed with her, but the belief I had in her words was more likely based on my experiences. It was an inference which was derived from what I have observed so far on Earth. But the worrisome thing for me at the moment was my own behavior.

Here I was, talking to a girl who had done me no harm, just for my own sake. I was doing all of this just because I believed that she might be the solution to all of my problems, and I would finally be able to get all of my powers back, the very same ones I didn't know existed within me if it wasn't for Dana. But when did I become so selfish? When did that quality start to rub on me from humans?

Did I hate myself for being like this, so out of my character? Yes, I did. The only thing which was running through my mind as I stated at her retreating back were curses, curses which I was bombarding on myself.

"F@"# you, Aden." I muttered to myself when she was no longer in my line of sight.
