Silas slouched back into his seat, fiddling with his hands and staring absentmindedly at the dreaded projector, still stuck on the starting screen. The timer still read 15:00. Silas wondered what time it was and reached his hand towards the power button o his own personal projector before realizing that he couldn't control it to the point where he could read the time.
The projector in front of Silas closed, its screen minimizing as Charybdis powered it off with her magic. She slowly got up from her seat, her hands folded neatly in front of her. She stretched out her small wings, shaking them out after being folded for so long. In the dark, her wings looked like dark blue shadows that spread out in front of him like the wings of a great black beast.
"Well, I suppose we'll have to cancel this experiment. I need to stay on schedule, however, so I'll need to take in your friend Saya right now. As for you, you should go meet up with Scylla, who will, instead of experimenting with your agility, will teach you to harness your magic. There may be a chance that you just haven't gotten used to controlling your magic and using it to your full potential yet. After all, most monsters don't have full access to their magical abilities until adolescence."
"Sorry," Silas said, bowing slightly to appease her. Charybdis stopped in her tracks.
"You don't have to be so afraid of me. Trust is the only way I'll be able to help you. If you're always apologizing, then you won't be able to move on from your past mistakes. It's imperative that you understand that. And I won't be mad at what cannot be helped."
Charybdis walked towards the door, past Silas who was still getting out of his seat. She opened the door and held it for him as he walked out, closing it shut behind him. The second Silas was outside the room he saw the face of Scylla, who was leaning against the wall, a sour expression on her face.
"How'd it go?" she asked sharply. She looked at him. She'd already prepared an expression of disgust and had been wearing it the entire time just to use it on him.
"There's been a change of plans," Charybdis explained. "It seems as if Silas here does not have enough control over his magic in order to operator a standard projector. I know you wanted to go over his expertise with weapons, but could I also suggest that you analyze his magical capabilities and see if you can guide him to control them? It'd be very beneficial for the both of us. If he can control his magic, then that increases his value tenfold. That is what you're here for, right?"
"If you're thinking I'm in it just for the money like a typical bounty hunter, you're sorely mistaken, Charybdis," Scylla said, with a menacing undertone to her voice. Charybdis showed no reaction, but her voice was just as cool and crisp as ever. Silas took that to seem more dangerous than Scylla's unbridled contempt. "I thought you knew me better."
"Ah, my apologies. I hope he's in good hands, I presume?"
"Don't worry," Scylla said. "I won't damage your toy… too much," a faint grin appearing on her mouth, revealing her sharp white teeth, impeccably brushed. Silas shivered, but Charybdis did nothing but smile as she surrendered him to Scylla's control.
