"Well that was intense."
Camdahar's candour was famous in heaven, many times he had been scalded for it. However he was my brother just as archangel Michael and Archangel Gabriel used to be. It was no secret that they were no longer as close as they were, though no one knew the cause of it. It was clear from what we just witnessed that it was still the case.
"Very intense."
"What's the big deal with this chick?"
Answering his own question he said.
"She must be hot as hell."
"You always think that."
"That's because it's usually true."
I laughed.
"It is at that. Come on Cam the sooner we do this the sooner we can come home."
"You do realize you have three months down there bro, your gonna have to get used to it."
I groaned.
"Don't remind me."
"Maybe all the time down there will change your mind about liking the place."
"Nothing will change my mind it hasn't yet."
Reaching the balcony used for landing angels, I spread my wings and took flight towards the ground, Cam close at my heels.
"You never answered bro why do you think the higher ups want this noob dead?"
"Why bother questioning it, in three months it won't matter."
"I know that but aren't you curious? What's so important about her and why does his holiness want her gone?"
"What does it matter Cam we have our orders stop thinking about it."
I watched as he winged closer using the air currents to glide beside me.
"It obviously has something to do with Gabriel. I've never seen him go up against Michael like that, not in front of others anyway. It must be big."
As we broke through the clouds we descended upon the streets below where our target was currently attending university.
Humans could not see our decent they were blind to many things that were right in front of them, even our wings could not be seen. Most walked right through them without even noticing. Only a select few who had higher physic energy sensed them but even then it only felt like pins and needles.
To us though we tried to avoid the contact as much as possible as our wings were extremely sensitive and touching anothers wings unless welcomed was unheard of.
"So first things first we gotta figure out the best time to introduce ourselves. She's going to uni right?"
This was why I knew I had been chosen to hunt this Reece Valor down. I had the ability to sense power no matter how new it was. It was useful for tracking down newly formed angels since all angels when born are as humans so that they may live amongst them to learn what they need to protect and serve.
They gained their wings at the age of twenty but in the months leading up to it they gradually start getting heightened senses and abilities, for angel's abilities were passed through their children.
Everything her angel parents learned and their parents before them and on and on it goes. In the end that child gained strength and skills no human could handle which is why their wings start to form at the same time since our power is in our wings.
After three months an angel's wings will fully form and they become angels. However if an angel of hell was to get to an angel in transition and convince them to join the other side then they would become angels of hell instead of heaven. Or the more commonly known name is dark angels.
"Yes she's there now let's go, we've already been enrolled as students."
I rolled my eyes
"Great three months of boring lectures on things these humans couldn't possibly understand, cant wait."
Cam elbowed me in the ribs answering.
"lighten up, stop being so depressing three months will be over before you know it,"
"I highly doubt it."
Walking the streets of the city made my head hurt there were too many people. Crowds made me uncomfortable forcing me to long for a dark corner.
We were born to protect and help these people but I always found it hard, Gabriel was right with his fears of the darkness inside me. That darkness is why the order to kill this girl did nothing to my conscience.
I was born to do what most angels did not have the stomach for. I have heard many say that is why my wings are like ice for that is how I am on the inside. I have never denied it I know what I am someone must do it, if not me then who?
"Bro?"
Snapping back to attention I looked to Cam.
"What?"
"Look there she is."
I followed his gaze to set my eyes on a girl more beautiful than I had ever seen. Her long blonde hair stretched to her lower back even when done in a braid, her eyes like rain grey with the deepest hint of blue around the edges. Her fair skin bringing out the blue even more with a body most female angels would die for.
At her back the very faintest of wings, they had only just started to show. A siluette of feathers I knew their colour would not appear until they were fully formed however I found myself thinking I really wanted to see what colour the change would reveal.
"Well fuck me she is hot."
His eyes turned to the girl standing next to Reece.
"Her friends hotter though."
Beside Reece was another girl with Brown hair to her shoulder blades, green eyes and tanned skin. She had the body of someone who worked out Cam's type all the way.
"Calm down Cam we're here on a mission not to put another notch on your belt."
"No one said we couldn't have a bit of fun while we're here."
It was then that I felt it a dark energy approach Reece from the east.
"They're here."
Cam immediately tensed.
"I see him."
We watched as a guy at least six foot seven with dark hair built like a body builder approached Reece. His wings the colour of blood a dark red with veins of blue that traced the feathers.
We watched from our position across the street as he lifted her up to plant a heated kiss on Reece's lips.
"Afternoon sexy what are we doing tonight."
The girl next to her punched him in the arm.
"Oh no Kail don't even think about it, it's the weekend we are having a girl's night no males allowed."
"Awe come on Bree can't I come? You know youll have more fun with me around."
"More like you and Reece will get all hot and heavy and end up ditching me again no way buddy. Why don't you get yourself more equated with your hand?"
At this Reece laughed.
"Sorry Kail I promised."
"Fair enough I know when I'm not going to win but be warned it's gonna be boring without me."
"I'm sure we'll manage."
With that the girl named Bree linked her arm with Reece's and steered her away from the university leaving Kail behind.
"Do you think he's noticed us?"
"I'm not sure, if he has he's good at hiding it. Come on Cam we need to follow our target."
"But what about the big guy?"
"Now's not the time we have our mission. Besides I'm sure we will confront him soon enough. Kails not the type to give up easily."
"You know him?"
I merely nodded as I headed after Reece and her friend.
"Come on bro give up the goods."
I sighed leave it to Cam to question everything.
"Let's just say we have a history. He's ruthless Cam we do not want to confront him in the open, it will not end well."
"Wow I've never seen you run from a fight-"
"I'm not running!"
I snapped through gritted teeth while my wings flared in anger as I stopped to face him.
Cam held his hands up in innocence.
"Calm down bro I was only kidding,"
Pulling my wings tight against my back again I continued to follow Reece and her friend who were turning into a set of apartment buildings.
Not wanting to show ourselves we did not enter after them but merely spread our wings and flew to the balcony of an empty apartment in the adjacent building. It had already been set up for us to watch our target from afar.
Settling in for a long wait I sensed that they lived on the third floor sure enough a light in one of the windows turned on. A second later Reece opened the balcony door and stepped out. The wind was whipping stray hairs from her braid to rest across her face.
"So what's the plan?"
Cam questioned from beside me.
"Well you heard her friend."
I answered.
"Their planning to go out alone, without Kail, it's the perfect opportunity to introduce ourselves. We need to be able to get her alone when her wings fully form and without Kail."
"Get it right bro Michael said you need to get close to her. Me I'm taking her friend."
He laughed at my uneasy look. I was not good with females.
"I'm going to hate this mission."
Sighing I sat on the edge of the balcony my wings resting behind me. Cam sat next to me smiling.
"Cheer up bro maybe you'll finally get some after how long is it now?"
I punched him in the arm.
"Just because I don't screw everything with two legs doesn't mean I don't get any."
"True we can't both get all the girls."
I shook my head and smiled.
Being around Cam always made me feel normal. However it was always short lived I was not normal.
Again I saw the eyes of Gabriel when he realised who I was. It was no surprise everyone knew my reputation. It was why I was given these types of missions, the no questions asked missions. I was no stranger to death, being executionor just seemed to make sense. My past had made me into what I was, long ago I had accepted that. There was no point in denying what or who I was.
So deep was I in my thoughts that I hadn't even realised how late it had gotten, already the sun had set and the girls had started their night out.
"Finally, come on bro their on the move."
Gliding to the ground we again followed behind Reece and Bree. The darkness covered them but with my powers I could follow Reece's energy anywhere she went. They entered further into the city. However as they turned a corner I sensed a dark energy approach.
"Cam!"
I whispered in warning just before I ducked into a side alley before the black eyed demon of hell landed in front of Cam. His face was shadowed it had leather like wings and horns with leather skin. Black eye demons were hells minions always doing the higher ups dirty work.
"Kail sends his greetings and a warning. The girl is his, stay away."
"And if we don't?"
Cam had drawn his bow and had notched an arrow fashioned from his feathers, an endless supply of arrows since the feather taken instantly reformed.
"You will regret it, you have no idea what or who you are dealing with. Kail does not wish to fight but if you give him no choice you will be sent back to heaven in pieces."
"Tough words for someone who uses messenger boys."
Cam was distracting him, it was something we had done many times. The demon was too busy bantering with Cam to realise I was hiding in the shadows.
Placing myself at his left flank I gripped my sword tight as I jumped from the shadows slashing down cutting off one of his wings. Bending my wrist I followed the movement to slice open his left achelies tendon. Turning I pulled a second sword from my back stabbing it upward through the top of his head. Blood coated my swords as he become dead weight. I held him there for a moment then pulled my sword out smiling at Cam.
"Works every time."
Cam smiled back.
"So where'd they go?"
"Come on It'll be quicker to fly."
Taking to the skies we winged towards Reece's location, she had already arrived at a night club already breaming with people. Landing in a back alley we dropped the glamour that hid our presence to humans. Together we exited the alley and headed for the entrance to the club.
"Id's..?"
We handed the doorman our human id's. Scanning them he indicated for us to enter. Once inside I immediately made a bee line towards Reece's energy.
She and Bree were upstairs where the loud music could be heard. Clearly where everyone in town was at that time. There were so many people it was impossible to keep my wings from being touched. Holding them tighter to my back I tried to minimise the closeness, which seconds later seemed pointless. I noticed Cam beside me trying and failing to do the same.
"Fuck it bro come on let's get a drink might as well have some fun while we're here."
Nodding I followed him to the bar while he ordered two scotch's, when a girl wrapped her arms around Cam's neck.
"Hey sexy."
The girl was no real looker but she had a face that spoke of experience.
"Not tonight hun."
She shrugged.
"Suit yourself, if you change your mind I'll be over there."
She pointed to a section of the dance floor that was lit up with flashing strobe lights. It was then that I saw Reece more closely, she was dressed in a red mini that had cut outs up the sides of her body showing even more of that flawless alabaster skin. She was the most beautiful being I had ever seen. She was dancing with the music her body swaying to the beat with perfect rhythm.
Her friend Bree was in a dress with even less material then Reece's. Bree's was a hot pink number that only just covered her as it dipped down from her shoulders to her waist showing off her belly rings.
Next to me i felt Cam nudge my arm.
"Oh yeah definitely dibs on the brunette."
Without hesitating Cam approached Bree wrapping his arms around her pulling her into his body as they moved as one. Not even missing a step Bree stretched up and wrapped her right arm around his neck as she pulled him closer. It was then that Reece turned to see where Cam had come from that her eyes met mine.
The music suddenly became silent as I stared into those eyes I was sure I had seen those eyes before but I could not place them.
Looking into them it was as if the entire room of dancing people had disappeared. It was like there was a magnetism that drew us together slowly she began to walk towards me as a smile that could start wars spread across her lips. Finally after what seemed like years she stood before me. Leaning closer so that I could hear her over the music she said.
"Hey I haven't seen you two around here before."
I could smell her perfume, orchid with a hint of spice.
"We just moved to town."
Siting down next to me she leaned in again.
"I'm sorry if this sounds weird but do we know each other. I get this strange feeling we've met before."
I shook my head.
"If we had you would remember."
I could sense her heat up at my words, leaning in again she reached out her hand.
"My names Reece."
I took her hand in mine.
"Dantalis."
She stole a glance at the dance floor, following her gaze I watched as Cam's hand ever so slightly reached to cup brees waist. Turning back to Reece I sensed Kail's dark energy approach our position.
"Looks like I'm missing all the fun."
Reece smiled at Kail.
"Bree's gonna be pissed if she sees you."
"Please she's more than too busy to notice by the looks of it."
Kail put his arms around Reece and finally turned to face me, an angry fire burned in his eyes then vanished in seconds.
"Dantalis fancy meting you in these parts, I thought you preferred it up north."
His condescending smile infuriated me.
"I have business to take care of here."
Reece looked from me to Kail.
"You two know each other?"
"Oh we go way back babe, don't we Danni boy?"
He moved to bump me in the shoulder, fast as lighting I forced his hand away. Reece's eyes narrowed at the exchange.
"Ok I'm not buying that what's going on? Who are you?"
She questioned in my direction, I remained silent so she turned towards kail.
"Kail?"
"Nothing much just a little past rivalry you know how us guys are."
He laughed as his eyes threw daggers my way.
"What's going on?"
Bree and Cam choose that time to take a breather from each other's bodies to interfere.
"AH and who's your new fuck buddy Bree?"
Kail indicated Cam who was at Bree's side eyeing up Kail like he wanted to loosen an arrow in his heart right then and there.
Bree stuck her finger up at him smiling then turned to Cam.
"We never did catch each other's names did we?"
Cam hit her with his charmingly brilliant smile.
"Name's Cam."
Bree answered with her own charming smile.
"Mine's Bree, now that that's dealt with.."
She turned back to face Kail.
"What are you doing here Kail? I told you it was a girl's night out now shoo."
Kail held up his hands up in innocence.
"Hey how was I to know you two would be here. I was just enjoying a night out on my own and saw Reece and decided to say hello."
"Well you've said hello now go away,"
She began to push him away but he avoided her attempts.
"Well I'm here now so what's the harm?"
"Argh I give up you deal with him Reece, Cam and I are going back to the dance floor."
Cam looked to me, I nodded my head slightly to indicate I could handle Kail without him. Smiling he wrapped his arms around Bree to grab her breasts while nibbling slightly on her neck.
Turning back to Reece and Kail I watched as Reece pulled Kail at of ear shot, I stretched my hearing to listen in.
"Kail please you know how she gets. Just let her have me tonight."
"Come on babe she's got Cam to keep her company, your just going to end up following them around all night by yourself."
"I'm not by myself I was talking to Dantalis before you interrupted."
He shot daggers towards me.
"I don't trust him."
She laughed.
"Do you trust me?"
I could sense the fury build up in him, if he said he didn't trust her he would lose his hold on her yet if he said he did trust her he would have no choice but to go. Sighing he answered.
"I trust you but the second something happens you call me, ok?"
She reach up to pull him to her lips.
"You'll be the first I call."
"Good ring me later either way,"
With one last kiss he headed towards the exit, leaving Reece to return back to sit at the bar beside me. I watched as without her even realising it she adjusted her silhouetted wings to avoid hitting the bar beside her.
"Sorry about the drama."
"Nothing to be sorry about, he's your boyfriend I'm guessing?"
"Not really, he gets jealous like a boyfriend though."
"He always has,"
"Oh that's right you two know each other, so what's the story?"
As she leaned in to talk this time her wings flared slightly touching my own wings. I jolted from the contact. Suddenly fearing it might happen again I asked.
"Why don't we move away from the music?"
Not giving her a choice I stood, quickly she pulled my arm.
"What about Bree and your friend?"
"Trust me their not going anywhere soon,"
Nodding she followed as we left the bar upstairs and went down to the quieter area of the building. We sat down on a set of couches next to a couple of girls that were clearly intoxicated.
