"It's only been two weeks and you want me to meet you dad?", I spoke.
"Yeah! I think he'll like you! You guys are both the sporty type, so yeah!", she exclaimed.
"Don't you think it's a little too soon, though?", I asked.
"I don't actually", she kept her eyes on the road while occasionally glancing at me.
"What if we broke up?", I asked.
She laughed "You're silly."
I gave her a concerned look, her smile has dimmed "Look even if we do break up, I want you to at least turn to either one of my parents as support… because you need someone Chase… you do. You don't really have anyone right now, so I figured knowing my parents would help."
I kissed her cheek "Thanks."
"Well…", she pulled up to the curb
"I'll meet you at school, don't you dare think about skipping."
"I won't ", I kissed her cheek one more time before pulling out my car keys. I tried my best not to look at our house.
But it tainted me, that house filled with such cruel memories, it haunted me.
I immediately got into my car before, I sat there for a second as my mind drew a blank.
Jackie had already drove off, so I sat there. I thought about my mother before starting my car.
"How could such a smart woman end up with an idiot", I thought.
I backed out of the driveway. I felt mentally incapable of functioning at school but I had no home to go to anymore, unless I wanted to blow money on a hotel again.
I drove a good fifteen minutes to school, I put on a black hoodie, bought some ecstasy off some kid in the boys bathroom and skipped my first period class as I headed to the football field. I just wanted to be alone. I sat in the empty bleachers letting my self go.
I had fallen asleep but I didn't know it until I felt a tug on my shoulder.
"Hey bruh… you okay?", I opened my eyes to see my friend Spencer looking back at me.
"Yeah… uh… yeah", I sounded tired.
I glanced at Spencer to see someone else behind him, my coach.
"You okay, Johnson?", he asked concerned.
"Mm-Hm", I muttered.
Spencer gave coach a look. "Go home, okay, Get some rest, you can miss practice today", Coach spoke.
"No… look Coach.. I- uh, I can do it today", I mumbled.
Spencer looked at me "Look Dude, you've been asleep all day today, I saw you at 8am and I thought damn he's just skipping or something. But man, you look like shit, we need you this season…. its 4pm Chase… 4 p.m!"
"Just call my girlfriend for me, okay man."
"Girlfriend?", Spencer asked.
"You're dating Jackie?! OH SHIT! You're dating Jackie!", he jumped up and down like a giddy little kid.
I glared at him. He finally calmed down and cleared his throat "Yeah man, I'll call Jackie for you."
I handed him my phone and gave him my password.
I tried not to doze off again, Jackie sounded worried. Spencer and Coach stood infront of me as I sat still in the bleachers.
Thirteen minutes passed by and finally I saw Jackie's messy bun and her running up the bleachers in baggie shorts. She immediately hugged me and pulled out her keys "Thanks", she hugged Spencer and thanked the coach before walking me down the bleachers.
"Are you sick?", she asked before touching my forehead.
"Jeez you're burning up… fuck… um my dad's home but he won't mind."
"I'm high, Jackie", I spoke in a casual tone.
She gave me a look of shock, and all she could do was nod.
We were silent for five minutes until she got into the car.
"We're going to my house, okay?", she spoke softly.
"Okay", I nodded.
Ten minutes into the car ride she glanced over at me "What are you on?", she spoke casually.
"Ecstasy", I replied.
"Are you a junkie?", she asked.
"No, today was my first time trying it", I spoke.
"Are you lying to me?", she asked.
"I… uh-, I've done steroids before and that's it… months before I was on the football team, but ecstasy actually feels good… I can't explain it", I mumbled.
She scoffed and entered the gate code to her house. I was amazed looking at the guards who closed the gate. She parked at the front and gave her keys to the valet. The bodyguard opened my door and greeted Jackie.
He then waited for Jackie to come to my side of the car before walking infront of us.
He opened the door and walked us to her father's study. I was amazed with how big their house was, there were 8ft tall statues and all. The body guard opened the doors to the study and let us in before leaving.
Her father quietly sat in his chair reading a book. Even though I was high, I couldn't help but to think this moment was a figment of my imagination.
"Dad!", Jackie called.
He looked over "Sorry. I'm really into this one."
He closed the book and glanced over at me.
"Oh! Dad this is Chase… Chase this is my da-
"You're Lior Mayes! It's an honor to meet you sir", I shook his hand vigorously.
He chuckled "Well… nice meeting you too, especially in different circumstances."
I immediately apologized "I didn't intentionally plan anything, I swear, your daughter is the sweetest thing in the world and-"
He interrupted "I was never mad at you. I-
Jackie's phone rang. She answered it and within a minute she hung up. She kissed her dad on the cheek "Venus needs help with homework, but I'll be back."
Before she left she ran back to me "Will you be okay, here?", she sounded worried.
I nodded "Yeah, just fine."
As soon as she left her father glared at me "Are you high?"
