Chapter 25 - Too Hot To Handle

It literally took two weeks until we saw another big event in the distance. This time, it felt even more important. How else would you describe a literal god showing up in the distance? Yeah, not much outside of something big was happening if one of them was helping someone.

How did we know the god was helping? Two seconds later, we had the same ship from before hurtling past us at over Mach 10 speeds according to our gauges. "What was that?" the crew members yelled. All our eardrums had been busted just by them getting nearby at that speed. "That would be the ship!" I screamed back. As far as we knew, that was Reyna's friends on their way back to the US coast. And with them, the hope of the entire world. "Get ready, we might have to deal with more monsters, and if we don't then we're lucky." As soon as I said lucky, three venti appeared above us. Quickly attacking with all they had and catching us off guard, we were lucky we had Skylar. The wind lord's daughter created a rope from the winds and corralled them together until they popped. Loretta and Jeremy immediately collapsed from the air being sucked out of their lungs. Leaving the rest of us to scramble and get them out of the way.

For the next three weeks, we fought like animals. Our sky island slowly became the warship it was made to be once more. Lucy herself finally becoming our helmswoman and mechanic once she realized no one else could do the tasks required with enough speed. Three weeks of fights with hellhounds, griffins, and even monsters that would never be capable of normally reaching us like cyclopes and the occasional centaur. Once the three weeks were done, we saw a metal dragon in the distance. Not just metal, but made from celestial bronze. "Hey, does that head look familiar?" Omoro said using the spyglass. "Let me see," I said taking the spyglass. The head did seem familiar, but the guy on the dragon's back was even more so. "Omoro, get ready for another visitor. That's a demigod on top." The dragon came close to the island and landed with a huge boom. Loretta came running, ready to fight. At least, until she saw that it was shiny. "Yay, another friend!" she screamed with joy. "Uh, guys?" the demigod asked. "You might want to keep the girl back. Festus is actually extremely hot right now, like myself," he warned. We heard a grunt, then he fell of the dragon. "Come on, Calypso! You know I'm joking!" the young man yelled upward while smiling. On top of the dragon, a girl answered back, "You're lucky I love you, or I'd do you in myself." Her tone was snide, but playful. From the looks of it, these two were a couple. Maybe just starting out, but even that I couldn't be sure about. "Who are you two?" I asked. Amazed that these two were such free spirited individuals despite running around the world with monsters all over the place.

"The name's Leo Valdez, you can call me a lot of things," he started. "Like a scrawny boy who can't make cider!" came the girl's voice from above. "Babe! Let me finish!" he yelled back. "Anyway, I was the one who ended up stopping Gaia. I'm a son of Hephaestus, and Festus here was a big help. As for my girlfriend, she's the Calypso. We sprung her from Ogygia a few weeks ago. And we're heading back to the US, as far as we know it's back west." He talked in rapid fire sentences, and kept pulling stuff from a tool belt around his waist. He definitely was an demigod with that much energy. "I was serious about Festus, don't touch him for a few hours or you'll burn whatever part that does touch him," he said with a serious face. "Well, we welcome you to our sky island. As for your girlfriend, why doesn't she come down, too?" On cue, the young woman came down. "She's old fashioned. As in, unless she's invited she won't enter anywhere. Got us in a little trouble last week. We had the option of a mortal family and an sketchy group, she went with the sketchy ones and they turned out to be monsters. But I love her, so what do I do but keep her by my side, eh?" he turned to look at Omoro, and the Loretta. "Are you guys married?" he asked. Omoro immediately blushed. "Uh, no. We've been dating for a little less than a year, but mainly we lead a family of demigods. As leaders, we don't have a lot of alone time. Especially with Loretta and Skylar in the family." Leo turned around and looked at the little girl. "That's one of them? She reminds me of someone. I just can't place it." He had been to Camp Jupiter, and that's when I recognized him. "Wait, you're that Leo Valdez? The one who was with Percy Jackson, Annabeth chase, and Jason Grace? The one known as "the runaway"?" He turned around stunned. "How do you know about all that? The Mist should have hid everything from our travels," he said while perplexed. "Not from TV conspiracy theorists," Omoro said. "Apparently the Mist let them say whatever because they're not likely to be believed. We were in a hotel around a month and a half ago and saw almost your entire group. Reyna filled us in on the rest. She said you destroyed a lot of New Rome while being possessed. If that's been let go, I should be safe, too." Leo looked confused. "What did you do that could be seen as bad as the destruction of almost an entire city? And why should i stay if you're that bad?" Leo was clenching his fists, smoke rising from between his fingers.

"It wasn't her fault. Octavian caused a flare up with her powers. Because it was in the Temple of Jupiter, she ended up destroying a few prophecies nobody could remember. That's why she's wanted." I was standing up for her just to stop the fight that was brewing. Calypso had the same idea. She went to Leo and kissed him. Thank goodness for the distraction. Once they were done, Leo turned to Omoro, "Octavian is dead. He went up in flames along with Gaia," eyes glowing, he continued, "The idiot tried to kill me, her, and Jason with an onager. He did kill me, but I had a special cure. Jason survived as far as I know, and Gaia is gone." He slowly got flustered, "Well, not fully gone. Just unable to form a body ever again." This demigod had saved the world, and acted like it's nothing.

"My family gladly welcomes you, Leo Valdez," and I turned around to see my entire family. Lucy was smiling, "So, you were too hot for Gaia to handle? I'd like to see you go face to face with Omoro later. She's the daughter of Hyperion. And you just talked with the son of Saturn if you didn't know." Then she hooked her arm in Bill's. "And my boyfriend is the son of Iapetus. Three half Titans who are more than enough to challenge anyone." Everyone turned to her. It wasn't like Lucy to be like this, but I had a feeling I know what was causing it. "Don't listen to her talk of fights. She's the daughter of Vulcan. It might be a competition vibe she's getting." Leo laughed.

"I have never met another blacksmith kid like me. I guess we're staying a few weeks Calypso. Because this is another..." his sentence was finished by the dragon's speakers, "SPANKING HOT WAR MACHINE!!!" Calypso slapped him across he head, "I told you to stop doing that." Then she turned to me with an glare, "If you are indeed good, then you're fate will be worse than mine was. All those with our bloodline who choose peace end in hardship." She the turned around and walked into the nearby woods. "Leo, you guys can stay in the barracks if you want..." I started. He stopped me, "We'll camp out in the woods. And don't worry, Calypso just needs to get used to it here. As the Flame that Scorched the Earth, I'll do my best to warm her heart." Lucy, Skylar, and Beverly whistled while Loretta kept looking at the dragon. "Lucy? Can we have a pet?" the little girl asked. "You said you could make metal animals, right?" she had her pleading eyes focused solely on Lucy. Yet, it was Leo who answered her. "I can make you something. Just point me to the forge, and I'll start tomorrow." His eyes were gleaming at the challenge. Lucy was livid. "How about a challenge? We'll both make her a pet, then she says who's better. Sound good?" Leo and Lucy stared each other down, then Leo grinned. "Deal. And I'll let you start today." With that, Leo went after Calypso and Lucy went to the forge. I was waiting to see how this turned out. But for now, we all deserved a break. "Okay, everyone gets a free day. I doubt we'll be attacked with Festus here. Do what you want!" And I decided to rest...
