It's been a few weeks since Larry's dismissal. Bill has been focused purely on searching his old home. While the girls have taken to helping Omoro get past what happened that day. The sons of Apollo and Neptune haven't been inside the base that often, mainly choosing to keep practicing outside the entrance and act as a guard. My own time in the past few weeks has been spent searching the armory while doing my best to speak with Omoro alone. After all this time, no one really achieved anything.
I was getting ready for an afternoon nap, when Lucy called out for me. Her tone seemed urgent. I ran to see what was happening, and I realized she was in Omoro's room. As I reached the doorway, I stopped. "Lucy, is anything wrong? Is Omoro..." Lucy stopped me with a look of anger. Her eyes were slightly ablaze, but Omoro answered for her. "Lucius, I want to talk with you alone. I've already sent the rest of the Regiment to look for something. Lucy is going after them." The way she spoke felt like she was breathless, almost like the last few weeks could have been spent using her powers.
Lucy got up after Omoro was done talking. She passed by me without a word, but I could feel an aura of heat the entire time. Turning to Omoro once more, everything I wanted to say flowed out. "I'm sorry. I don't know what or how I'm getting these powers so quickly. Each one I get gives you a horrid flashback, and I don't want you to feel like you're not safe. I want you to be safe, even at the cost of myself."
"I know what's happening. We're not meant to be. And neither is Bill. With Mt Othrys gone, we have two options. Either survive or fade. Our parents will determine our fate. I... I don't have much time. I want you to know, despite everything represented by our parents, I've grown to love you." My feelings were the same, but when she said it all I could do blush.
"Omoro, is there anything I can do? I could Rewind you every few days. I would do anything to keep you. You were the first person I could trust," I was in tears. I knew there was no option left. Not anything any of us could do. "If you leave, I don't know what I'll do, I love you too much to let you go." I was crying by her bedside when I noticed she was glowing. Not like when she had her bursts, but a soft flame starting by her heart. "Omoro? What does that mean?" Her body began to lift upward, floating slightly above the bed. Within my mind, I heard Omoro's voice clearly, "We don't have a right to be. Once our parents are gone, we, as their legacy, also disappear. We're nobody without them, always have been. I wanted you to see my final moments, and tell the Regiment my final wish. Lucy is my replacement, and my flame is within all of you. Goodbye, Lucius, my love." The room went dark, and I sat there crying until Bill heard me.
"My liege, she's gone, isn't she? Omoro has passed away?" I slowly rose from where I was crying. "No, as long as we live, she won't be forgotten. With her memory so lives her flame, this room will not be used. It is now an shrine to Omoro Katastroff, the demititan known for being a flame bright enough to break every darkness. Give the rest of the Regiment one hour, then we share what happened here." Bill simply nodded, if anyone knew the pain of losing everything, it was Bill. I looked up at the ceiling, "Goddess of Korab, I need help. Please turn this room within yourself into a proper shrine. We will leave as you do what you must." I walked outside, the sun was barely rising. The exact time when I first met Omoro was sunrise, "A fitting way of saying a new day has come..." I called the Regiment together and let them know what happened. All the girls knew what was going on, but the sons of Apollo and Neptune weren't ready. Though our resident musician knew what was needed. Harry started singing an song in Latin. A song about sanctuary and a show of love to our fallen friend. Surprisingly, I knew it well enough to follow immediately. Her words came back to me, "We are Nobody".
With the end of the song, I detailed her final wishes. As we were heading back in, I noticed a glint in the woods, Larry had joined us for the service. For once, his intentions were pure. He also loved Omoro, after all. "Hopefully he grows from this," I muttered. Bill surprisingly answered in a low voice, "Larry? Let's hope so. I need his help with a door. I stand by my commanding officer, but the conditions mean he has to change a lot more."
We set up the newly made shrine with beautiful purple silk and the goddess helped create a perfect ceiling of crystal. With a single candle the entire shrine was lit in a multitude of colors, a fitting place for the person I grew to love. "A beauty she expressed every day given life," I thought. "We need to keep a candle lit constantly in this room. Lucy, tomorrow I want you to search for Greek Fire. Today, we mourn." All Lucy could do was nod, each Regiment member then left to their rooms. A day just beginning, but already ended in all of our heads.
