With Larry helping everyone, everything finally was getting done. A legacy of Hermes fulfilling the role as the jack of all trades happily wasn't something I believed possible. In the end, Larry had a lot of work over the space of a month, but his blade was able to change to suit every job set before him. I only felt that it wasn't just a blade, but an extension of his penance that wouldn't stop. Yet, the translations we found for each side felt encouraging. According to Lucy, they were from the same series as what she told me. The first was, 'Don't ever forget. Wherever you go. I'm always with you," and the second matched it by saying "No matter where we are, our hearts will bring us together again." Omoro always had a way with words, but this was her way of saying what needed to be said since she couldn't do it herself.
Once Larry had regained everyone's trusts. I called together a meeting of the entire Regiment. Our first time with the entire group in one room since the day Larry was sent out. This time it would end in the reverse, but as a praetor of this small group I couldn't show favoritism. "Larry James, legacy of Hermes, you have completed the tasks set before you to rejoin this Regiment. If those in attendance agree to reinstate you, you will join once again as a full member," I hadn't used a commanding tone in so long it hurt. Luckily, I had Lucy as a backup. "All in attendance raise your hands in salute if you wish his reinstatement." Everyone raised their hands except little Loretta, and Larry looked ready to cry.
Until Loretta finally said what was on her mind to Skylar, "What does reinstate mean?" Needless to say, we lost all order for a few minutes. Both Lucy and I forgot that Loretta was too young for the advanced words used in the normal ceremony, and we were glad we could have a laugh during such a serious moment. With tears coming down my face, "Loretta, it means 'Do you want Larry back?'," even Bill was laughing at this point. "Oh, well duh, he's done a great job helping me with those trees!" Loretta said. And back to being as serious as we could be, "Then, Larry James, legacy of Hermes, you are reinstated with full membership to the First Regiment Tempus Majorus. We welcome you back."
"Thanks, I just need to do one thing. I feel like there's something about my blade that needs to be said." Everyone slowly backed away, since we all could guess what he meant. "Ortus is connected to Omoro. I don't know how I found out, but it's more than a gift. It's a key." Lucy's eyes got wide, "She didn't! That's insanely dangerous!"
If our blacksmith said dangerous about a weapon, I knew it would get worse. "How dangerous, Lucy? Are we talking destructive nature or something new?" Yet again, we got another quote from Omoro. "She used to say that the series had a special blade in the shape of a key, it could awaken hearts. I think she might have made a way for her to come back, and if Pluto or Thanatos finds out we're all dead." We all looked to our daughter of Pluto for something helpful. Not much for the spotlight, she caved instantly, "That blade doesn't seem to work like how you say. If it is a key, then there's entry and exit. So if anything, that means Thanatos won't care as much since it's like the Doors of Death. But Pluto will definitely kill all of us for this." With that, everyone started arguing back and forth. While it escalated, I tried silencing everyone. Then I remembered something, turning to Bill I asked, "Bill, didn't you call her 'Phoenix' when we ran into you back in Kansas?What if that is like this?" Everyone started asking Bill every question they could think of.
Finally, Bill raised his hand, simply saying, "I don't know." And everyone started arguing again, until we heard a familiar voice scream, "Guys!" We all turned to where Omoro now stood with a grin. "What happens when a Phoenix dies? It's reborn!" With that, everyone ran to her. Loretta practically tackled her while crying, Harry started singing See You Again, Jeremy and Billy started doing a show behind her using their water and light abilities, Skylar and Beverly were jumping up and down with joy, and Larry simply moved out of the way. Bill, Lucy, and I could guess how he was feeling. And in good spirits I announced a feast and party for the Regiment.
Once everyone had knocked out from the party, Omoro called me to a corner. I knew something was up since she was holding a cut piece of watermelon. "I have something to tell you," she started saying. After all her hints, I decided to answer for her, "Another quote?" She looked sad. "This is more than that. It's a symbolic gesture from the series. In the series there's a fruit that is shared as a gesture to bond two people. I want to do it with you using this piece of watermelon."
At this point, I broke down crying on her shoulder. All this time being strong without her was nothing. I collected myself and agreed to do it. Sadly, my crying woke up the group. They swarmed us and started using their abilities to mess around with us, even Larry ended up taking pictures using his transforming blade. "Pause," I muttered. With that, Omoro and I went off to be alone. And I released the others once we were far enough. Too bad for them, when you're the Son of Time, you have all the time in the world.
