Chapter 51 - A Proper Good Bye [2]

Once I was able to leave the hospital, around three days since I was awaken, I contacted Jennifer and arranged a dinner for two for tonight. Well, actually now I'm about going in to my Ferrari, after picking up Jennifer from her apartment's door.

"Wow.. you're not planning on showing off to me now, are you ?" Jennifer asks, teasing and praising at once about my car. I chuckle.

"I just thought you would be in trouble riding my motorcycle with your dress," I answer her, glance at her super beautiful appearance. T

onight she wears a calf-length peach dress that accentuates all of her features, meaning legs, bottoms, waist, and of course.. breasts. "You look wonderful, by the way," I adds to her, not hiding any ounce of my admiration from her.

Jennifer murmurs a thank you. I exhales to release all my tension then start driving. About fifteen minutes later, we are already sitting in the same restaurant when we had our first dinner. I sit next to her, trying to focus reading the menu while my eyes keep glancing at her autonomously. I end up having what she orders, only adding a bottle of wine for both of us.

After the waiter goes, there is silence between us, an awkward one. Jennifer just presses her lips to form a thin smile while wandering her sight around the restaurant. I doubtfully reach to touch her hand that lies on the table. She jolts to a little surprise.

"So.. Sorry," I murmurs and pull back my hand.

"N.. N.. No, it's okay," she says then smiles at me. Her smile makes me reach out my hand to her again. This time, she only stares at them.

"Thank you," I say to her softly while twinning my fingers onto her.

"For what ?" she asks.

"For not telling about me to the police," I answer her, squeezing her hand gently. She smiles.

"That's the least I can do," she says, shifting her sight from our hands to my eyes. "You were not only protecting me. You endangered your life for me. You... you took a bullet for me," she says in stammered. A tear falls from her eye.

"Hey, don't cry.." I tell her, my other hand reaching for her hand to rub it gently. "I'm perfectly fine now, aren't I ?"

She nods few times then chuckles. "It was like a nightmare, though.." She stares at me with cocked eyebrows, "How can you be healed so fast ?"

I shrug. "I don't know. I guess my ancestor was Superman," I answer, glance at her to meet her sight, then we chuckle at the same time.

"How did you manage to escape ?" I ask her.

She sips her water from the glass in front of her before answering, "I did not. A troop of cops came not long after. Maybe around five minutes. I hadn't even managed to uncuff my self."

I'm surprised by her answer. So, someone called the police. But who ?

The waiter comes to serve our dinner. I reluctantly release my hold from her. Another silence surrounds us as we start eating.

"I went to mister Waddle.. I mean, my father's funeral today," she breaks the silence.

"You did ?" I ask. She nods. "Did you meet your twin sister ?"

She nods again. "She is devastating. I don't blame her. She lost two men she loves dearly in almost the same time," she answers.

"Did she blame you ?" I ask her, I worry that her twin might also know about all this.

"No. I think she is clueless about what her fiance did. She seems a little bit too ... naive, you know.. she still behaves like a child. When I met her, I felt like being her elder sister instead of her twin," Jennifer answers me then sighs.

"That's why Waddleson gave his seat on the company to Radwansky," I respond. Jennifer nods.

"According to their lawyer, Rachel even gave Radwansky a full authority to her wealth," Jennifer continues.

"No wonder... I bet he was rampage to know that Rachel only gets half of her father's wealth," I utter in amazed.

"Their lawyer said, he was trying to compel him to change the will. But the lawyer is mister... I mean, my father's best friend. So, instead he even determined to protect the will by giving Radwansky the term to show him my body as a proof," Jennifer continues her story.

"Wow.." I murmur, then sip my wine.

"So.. you are leading the company now ?" I ask.

Jennifer shakes her head while drinking from her water glass. "I can not do anything to refuse the money. But since there is no word in the will that tell me to lead or even involve in the company, I can easily refuse it. My involvement in the company is only as a 25.5% shareholder," she says.

I whistle. Waddleson's telecommunication company is the largest in the country. Waddleson him self was the six richest businessman last year.

"So you are billionaire now," I say to her in teasing way.

"I guess so," she says then smirks before spooning a chocolate lava cake into her mouth. "Oh.. this cake is so delicious," she moans in pleasure.

I mimic her, having my own chocolate lava cake, but I think she is way more delicious than this chocolate cake. The thought of not having her again forever honestly gloom my heart a little.

"What's wrong ?" Jennifer turns out notices my facial expression's change.

"Nothing," I say to her, giving her a smile to ensure her. She stares at me, long and deep.

"It's just slipped into my mind that... with that kind of wealth.. you don't need to be a prosecutor.. you don't even have to work for the rest of your life, you know," I say to her. She chuckles.

"Being a prosecutor is my dream since I was a teenager. So I will definitely keep my job," she says.

"I see.." I respond to her, forget to hide my disappointment. I thought, if she wasn't in justice, things could work out between us. But I guess, my thought was just a day dream.

I'm about to eat another spoon of cake when I see Jennifer still stares at me.

"What ?" I ask her.

"I wish... you don't do something illegal as your profession. At least.. not killing-people illegal," she sighs then reaches my hand. "I.. really want to be with you. But.."

"I know..," I cut her, press my lips to give her a thin smile. "I don't do it because I want it to."

"Then why ?"

"My body determined that's what I should do," I then tell her my story from the moment I woke up in a dumpster until right when I finally decided to be an assassin. As I expected, she is dumbfounded.

"Aren't you feel bad.. or guilty ?" she asks after back from her lost mind.

I shrug. "I don't feel anything," I answer her unchantantly. "To make you a little bit better.. I only killed ones who deserve it. That's why I rejected to kill you in the first place," I add.

She nods still in daze. I let her busy with her mind.

"So.. are you the one who murdered Mr. Chekhovsky ?" she asks after few minutes passed.

I smirk. "I won't tell you anything, Miss D.A," I jokingly mock her. I thought she would laugh, but she only gives me a sad smile. I twine my fingers onto hers. She replies it.

"You see.. for you, I am willing to ignore your past. But.. I can not ignore the future. I mean.. I can not put a blindfold about what you do. And you.. what kind of relationship will it be if you have to lie or hide something to me all the time..."

"I know..." I cut her. I pull her hand close to my lips and kiss it gently. "That's what in my mind, too." I sigh.

"That's why.. I don't want you to be my girlfriend. That's why.. I want you to have your life back again.. being normal. Being happy."

Her eyes are all teary.

"Don't cry. Why don't you have some wine, Baby. You haven't had wine tonight" I offer her, about to pour the wine to her empty glass. She rejects it with covering the top of her glass.

"No, thanks. I need to keep my mind sober tonight," she says.

I nod to understand then change the conversation's topic into something light and random. We chat about everything despite our 'relationship'. I order a gelato for both of us. We eat it slowly, enjoying the conversation and laughters we have.

We finally have to end our dinner when the restaurant is about to close. I deliberately drive my car in low speed so I can extend the time we have as long as I can. But still, we arrive at her apartment building only twenty minutes after.

"Thanks for tonight," Jennifer says, about to get out of the car.

"W... Wait.. I'll walk you to your door," I tell her. Quickly taking off my seatbelt before getting out of my car. Jennifer waits for me just beside the car. I approach her while locking my car.

We walk side by side in silent. I reach out to hold her hand. She doesn't refuse it.

"This is it," she says in gloom once we arrive in front of her door. Jennifer leans her body to the door. "I want to ask you to come in, but I'm afraid.."

"No, you're right. It is better for us to separate here," i agree with her. I hold both of her hands in front of my chest. My eyes are staring at her eyes that already all teary again.

"I.." something chokes my throat. "I will never forget you," I say with hoarse voice.

"I am that good, huh," she still manages to joke though her cheeks are wet. I chuckle.

"You are. Not just about sex," I tell her. "You are an amazing woman, whole package," I continue. "I'm lucky to know you."

My eyes are heating up as Jennifer starts to sob. I use my thumb to dry her tear.

"I.. I am glad.. to.. to know you.. too," she says before kissing my fingers that on her cheek. "And.. and.. I'm glad.. you are my first.."

I smile gently then kiss her on her forehead. "Be good, Baby.." I kiss both of her hands before reluctantly letting them go.

When I turn my body, about to leave her, Jennifer hold my hand. I turn my body back to her.

"I love you, Scott Bennet," Jennifer says before pulling me toward her.

"I love you, too," I whisper then kiss her lips passionately.
