Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Fallen v.s Fallen

Ikko's expression faded. "I saved her because Silvera's my friend. And the other human the overlord let you kill was my love. So what if they're human? Shouldn't those be enough reasons to save someone?" Crucifix smiled again. "So you are still mad about that. I'm afraid I still don't know why, I did you the favor of making you realize how much of a disgusting being the overlord really is."

Ikko stayed still. "I'm not mad about it. That was over nine hundred years ago. If I was mad about it I would've plotted revenge against you." Crucifix raised an eyebrow. "Then why didn't you?" Ikko shrugged. "What's the point? For some reason I still didn't want to lose you as a friend at the time, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Even If I could've done something, we wouldn't have ended up together anyway."

Crucifix pulled out another arrow from behind his back. "Oh right. They didn't love you back didn't they? Well even if you won't admit that you're still hurting, you won't have to worry about it anymore in death." Without another word, he shot the arrow at Ikko.

Ikko dodged but Crucifix moved his fingers causing the arrow to turn around and shoot through Ikko's hand. "Ah!!" He then shot him again in the stomach, causing Ikko to fall dangerously close to the water. He stopped himself in time and Arine rushed to him. "Ikko!"

Crucifix saw and used his free hand to surround Arine in black and white magic. when it was gone, a heavy metal cage appeared in it's place around Arine, causing it to splash and sink into the water. "Ah!" Arine tried to get out, reaching through and pulling on the bars while his last seconds of oxygen were diminishing. Ikko came quickly to him. "Arine!"

He used his uninjured hand to try and pull the cage out of the water, and the other to stop his stomach from bleeding. The cage was too heavy, and it did nothing to stop it from sinking. The cage was completely under water now and Ikko had to let go or he would be pulled under. He hovered above the water in panic as Crucifix lowered himself down in front of him.

"There's no point in saving him, is there? If you go down there you'll have to cut your wings off in order to not sink to the bottom. Not to mention, the metal is unbreakable. You would do all that, for a fairy? A mischievous little creature that even now, lives to cause trouble?" Ikko glared at him intensely serious. "I will give you the pleasure of cutting my wings off right now if you let him live." Crucifix's expression then changed to surprise.

He stared at him in shock and Ikko looked down impatiently. "I don't expect you to comprehend caring for someone. So here's what it's like. You would sacrifice everything for them." In that moment Ikko dived into the water and out of Crucifix's sight.

Ikko could feel the water seeping into his wings, causing them to get heavier. He swam faster until he reached the cage. Arine was starting to panic from not being able to breathe and getting pulled closer to the dark floor of the ocean. He was a little relieved when he saw Ikko, and tried to calm down. Ikko then used magic trying to cut through the bars, but it wasn't working no matter what angle or spot he went for. The cage seemed virtually indestructible like Crucifix said.

He then looked for a door on the cage and was instantly relieved when he saw one that was just barely visible. Arine closed his eyes and passed out in the cage as Ikko's wings only pulled them down deeper. He then used his magic inside of the lock, causing it to bust apart and the door to swing open.

Ikko Immediately grabbed Arine and tried to swim up, but he couldn't. At this point he was heavier than the cage and sinking faster. His body started to want to force him to breathe but he stopped himself.

He then used his magic and wrapped it around Arine. He patted Arine's head, and used the last amount of strength he had to push him up to the surface. Ikko continued to sink and tried to pull himself up, but failed to do so every time. he then felt his consciousness starting to falter.

He tried to shape some more magic into a knife but he was too weak to concentrate. Now all his body wanted to do was sleep. Even if he was able to conjure enough magic and cut through the bones of his wings before he passed out, he would still have to swim all the way back up to the surface, and he didn't have enough time for that. Ikko then exhaled, giving up on his life as he finally hit the bottom of the sea. His vision became foggy and the last thing he saw was a bright light surrounding him before he passed out.

Ikko opened his eyes again unexpectedly. He woke up to himself coughing up all the water he had swallowed. His head hurt and he sat up slowly, realizing that Arine was next to him still passed out. He looked around shocked to see that they were on a small desert island. They were both drenched, and Ikko could barely move from how heavy his wings were were still. Though his wounds from before had healed.

He tried to search his memories for what could have happened to them, and how he made it back to the surface but he couldn't figure it out. He then turned to see Crucifix kneeling next to him and jumped. "Gah! What are you doing here?" Crucifix then grabbed Ikko's shoulders shaking him back and fourth. "What the hell is wrong with you??!! Do you realize you could've died??!!"

Ikko pulled away grabbing his head in discomfort. "Weren't you going to kill me anyway...?" Crucifix was still angry.

"Of course I was! But there was no way I was going to let you kill yourself, not after that whole heroic speech on how I can't comprehend love, and not even letting me yell at you in response!!" Ikko looked at him in surprise then raised an eyebrow. "You saved me...? You saved me just so you could yell at me...?"

Crucifix paused continuing to glare at Ikko and ignored his question. "I might not be able to understand your little friendships with what I call food, but you have no right to tell me that I have no idea what it's like to sacrifice everything for someone I care about!" Ikko stared in surprise waiting for him to continue.

"You know very well that I wasn't always like this! I was someone before I became fallen, but I was also someone who let my hunger make me do things that I'd regret. We were friends... And, there's something I haven't told you... I thought I could just take it to my grave, but here we are and I can't hold it in any longer!" Ikko's expression became confused.

"Crucifix. What are you talking about?" Crucifix looked down shaking, trying to hold in his anger. "Even after I became fallen that didn't change how you saw me... You still wanted to be my friend even if I had two sides... You bastard... Why am I like this...? Why do I have to kill everything I see?!" He then finally looked up and got closer to Ikko. "I was jealous okay??!!"
