Chereads / The story of a hero named Fishy / Chapter 87 - The Assassin (II)

Chapter 87 - The Assassin (II)

To prove that he was trustworthy, Fishy intended to show Ena that he was able to fight. It seemed like a strange plan, and that's because it was, but it wasn't to show he was strong, it was to show that he was able to help her.

Fishy stood with the city behind him, whilst Ena stared behind at those who continued with their daily lives, unaware that a fight was about to happen. Maybe it was psychological warfare, in hopes that she would go easy so Fishy wasn't embarrassed. But Fishy didn't care about that.

Ena pulled out her rusted blade from behind her and wielded it tightly as she threw several little daggers out randomly behind her. Fishy noticed each one but didn't care to keep track of where they all landed, as he didn't have time. Ena charged forward, throwing the blade in her hand to lead the charge. The blade reached Fishy first, but just a simple tilt from his head made it fly past him, but as the handle just reached by his ear, Ena vanished from in front of him. Fishy turned around, noticing her presence behind him. She grabbed the blade in her hand and didn't waste time swinging. She aimed for Fishy's neck, but he was able to duck in time, thrusting his open palm into her stomach, as hard as he could.

Fishy didn't hold back, and because of this, Ena would have been sent flying into the city and possibly injure those she collided with on impact. But, before the force propelled her off the spot she was hit at, Fishy caught her from behind with one hand.

"You aren't the only one who's fast enough to appear behind people."

"Something tells me I'm a little faster," Ena said as she tightly bit down on her teeth. Her words caused a moment of hesitation in Fishy. In that one second, he released his hand from her back, but as soon as he did, Ena vanished.

Fishy stood looking around, unable to find her. The wind blew around his pale white hair along with the leaves in the trees, but nothing was there. No one could see her, no one could hear her. Even magic detection didn't detect anything.

"Amazing…" Fishy said to himself as he decided to sit down in the centre of the battlefield. "I concede, it's your win."

"She's talented," Lilith spoke from within Fishy's shadow, "Although, if I hadn't been here to repair her broken ribs when you hit her could have died. She was already in a poor condition."

"It's fine, isn't it? You used my mana to accelerate her healing along with the magic I enchanted my palm with." Fishy responded in his head.

"I suppose."

"Do you think she's left?" Ziu asked as he approached Fishy who started to lay down on the cold wintery grass, trying to contain his amazement as he watched Fishy's display.

"I don't think so. I can't find her but I have this feeling she's watching. I'm sure she understands that I'm asking for her help out of my own selfish wish, but I wish I could tell her that I also wish to help her. You go look into things, I'll wait here for her."

Ziu didn't say anything and left with instructions. Fishy was left alone sunbathing below the overcast sky.

"He's gone now, you can come out."

Fishy's words were followed by a rustle in the leaves of a nearby tree in the forest of hundreds. Out of the 7 trees Fishy believes the knives went into, the one Ena jumped out of was not the one he thought.

"You're strong." She said as she approached the defenceless Fishy.

"Thanks, so are you."

"So, what do you want?" Ena asked.

"Your trust."

"Is that all?"

"I don't know. Ideally, I would have liked to have gained your trust in some other way, like with food or something. But, I thought that If I showed you that I can help then maybe you'd come around."

"So breaking my ribs is showing me you can help? But, I suppose I'll take you up on the dinner option, you are my type after all."

"You're the first person to tell me that, ever," Fishy said proudly, but maybe he shouldn't have.

"That's kinda sad," Ena replied as Fishy goofily said...

"I know right…"
